Book review of Manuel Puig and the Spider Woman: His Life and Fictions by Suzanne Levine. (New York: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 2000) Levine reveals the Argentinean writer’s struggle to understand his homosexuality and to cope with the intolerance of outside world, a struggle that became the inspiration for many of his works, notably the book Kiss of a Spider Woman, which was later made into an Academy award winning film starring WIlliam Hurt and the late Raul Julia.
