Arthur Douglas Amiotte, 1942-
Sioux
Arthur Amiotte was born in 1942 in Pine Ridge, S.D. and is a descendant of the Minniconjou Sioux chief Standing Bear. He obtained a Master of Interdisciplinary Studies degree from Northern State University. He is an artist, author and educator. He has also studied traditional Lakota. He was appointed to the Presidential Advisory Council for the Performing Arts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. by President Jimmy Carter, 1979-1981.

Recipient of “Outstanding Contribution to Indian Education” Award by State of South Dakota Indian Education Association, 1976.
