Texas Should Update Production and Consumption and Use More Sustainable Resources Texas is one of the largest states in America and influences other states in laws, regulations, culture, and tradition. “Due to its rapidly increasing industrialization, Texas also happens to be one of the highest states in production and consumption in the United States” (Fiscal Notes Staff, Page 1). 1 Although Texas is one of the fastest-growing states, there are still a few issues regarding these laws and regulations. Not only is Texas production and consumption laws an issue but Texas could also benefit from using more sustainable energy resources. For this reason, Texas should regulate production and consumption laws while using more sustainable energy …show more content…

Since Texas is one of the largest producers of wind and solar power, it should encourage the use of renewable energy. If some Texas coal mines and oil drilling were to swap to wind and solar power the overall renewable energy will increase. For instance, “the increase in wind power and the retirement of almost 6,000 megawatts of coal-fired generating capacity, coal-fired power plants supplied 18 percent of state generation in 2021, down from a 36 percent share in 2011.” (U.S. Energy Information Administration, Page 4).5 Due to coal power becoming an outdated energy source, wind power can make a large contribution to the modern world all while being cheaper …show more content…

Texas is known for its agricultural land, especially in West Texas, and can expand biomass energy and reduce the use of non-renewable resources. For example, “Texas also has several biogas facilities that recycle organic waste into renewable energy” (U.S. Energy Information Administration, Page 4). 8 Not only is this energy source renewable but it is recycling waste into a valuable resource. Texas “also has eight biodiesel plants that can produce about 380 million gallons of biodiesel each year” (U.S. Energy Information Administration, Page 4). 9 This high production of biomass energy and reusing waste has more potential than just West Texas. Texas contains several farms, waste-water plants, and agricultural land to utilize for biomass energy
