A Brief Summary Of All Quiet On The Western Front

In chapter six it starts out with the men discussing a possible offensive against them, meanwhile all of them are in the trenches which are in horrible shape, which are filed with huge rats. The soldiers are all tired and worn down and their leader ,Kat, shows it in his face as well. One night after an earth bomb shakes their trench area a young recruit that seems uneasy and yells at Paul then walks out of the trenches, this showed the toll war does on a man. The same day the men are attacked by the French and attacked bad, Paul described it and says “ We have become wild beasts. We do not fight, we defend ourselves from annihilation”.

This book shows how a government may not be making decisions regarding war that are in the best interests of the people. The German government was in a time of struggle and despair during the times of World War I (1912-1918). The instability and false trustworthiness of the German government in the time period of 1910-1930 fed the feelings and themes from the book All Quiet on the Western Front.

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarqueis a book about a German soldier Paul Bäumer and some of his friends from school who joined the army voluntarily after their teacher talked about joining the war. The group of nineteen year olds started the war with a great sense of nationalism and enthusiasm, but after experiencing ten weeks of hard training from Corporal Himmelstoss and the brutality of life on the front. Paul and his friends realize that the reasons of for which they enlisted are simply meaningless after some time on the front. Also, Paul and his friend realize that war is not as glorious or honorable as it is made out to be, and constantly lived in strain both mental and physical.

All Quiet on the Western Front began with one school teacher, Kantorek, who convinced Baumer and his friends to join the war. In the result of joining the war, Paul Baumer visits his childhood friend, Franz Kemmerich with an amputated leg. When Franz dies that night Paul realizes that war can take anyone’s life. Men are being sent to the front.

Q5. The book All Quiet on the Western Front taught me everything I know on war. Before reading this book I honestly knew absolutely nothing when it came to war. The only things I had known was that the United States of America had a strong army and they would protect us. War had never been a worry to me, occasionally I would hear about it in the news, but it never bothered me.

The had a lot of information and was very informative. I would give this book a three. I will rate it three because of it good, it just was a lot of information that made me lose interest in the book.

Muller wants kemmerithicks boots because they have lost normal things in life. All the common commodities are gone with this generation they've lost family themselves at war and the ability to have good boots they are the generation of losing. Another thing that the book touched on was how when the guys lost their humanity and became savages and heartless it actually helped them out in the war this shows how the war took the humanity from the guys who went to war. Paul and his compadres are considered the lost generation because straight out of high school they were enlisted in the war or drafted.

As Hillenbrand lays out these themes for the reader it is easy to apply them to their own life. The book helps younger generations understand World War II and wars so they understand the consequences. This will help the future leaders of the United States make educated decisions on war. Fighting wars not for personal gain but rather the betterment of a people.

All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque poses many questions throughout the story including why an enemy soldier can cause grief. The French soldier Gérard Duval is significant to All Quiet on the Western Front because he changes the perception of the enemy by being an idea, an almost lifeless body, and a single name that all cause grief without speaking a single word. When Gérard Duval is first introduced, he is plunging into the trench that Paul Baumer is in. He is not portrayed as a person at first, instead being “steps [that] hasten over [him]...a body [that] falls over [him]” because he is fearful of his life and soon after, Paul stabs him without thinking about who he is(Remarque 216). Remarque uses non-specific nouns

The word choices are intermediate and it is easy to follow the story lines from book to book. The owls are also child like at times and it is easy for youth to relate to

Review All Quiet on the Western Front is great piece of literature because it incorporates a lot of different aspects into the book. It has the action of war, the happiness of friendship, and the sorrowness of loss and given up hope. It varies from other books i have read about war and loss because it gives a perspective that I have never seen through before. The book is based on the lives of German soldiers in World War I, rather than the usual book through the eyes of an American soldier.

Evaluation: This book is a deeply engaging book, filled with tension. The genre is adventure and mystery, and the book is hilarious. It tells you about past and present, and every page is a new mystery. I loved this book because it created suspension, making me want to turn to the next page.
