John Kennedy Toole’s A Confederacy of Dunces is the story of an anti-modern man named Ignatius J. Reilly who lives in New Orleans in the early 1960s. Ignatius is an obese man who has become obsessed with disapproving of pop culture. He often entertains himself by attending modern events, such as going to movie theaters, merely to express his disdain with them. Throughout the story, Ignatius displays an outspoken personality and an unmistakable rude demeanor. In A Confederacy of Dunces, the main character, Ignatius J. Near the beginning of the novel, when Ignatius and his mother are sitting in The Night of Joy bar, the two meet a woman named Darlene. Darlene comments that she thinks Mrs. Reilly must be a good cook, but Ignatius I considerately states, “Mother doesn't coo, […] she burns” (21). Ignatius, with complete disregard for his mother’s feelings, is quick to unnecessarily point out his mother’s flaws. Later on in the story, when Mrs. Reilly reveals to Ignatius that he must find a job because the owner of the house that she hit with her car wants $1,020 for damages, and she will get put in jail if she cannot find a way to pay it, Ignatius responds by ridiculing is mother: “I have found several empty wine bottles about lately, the contents of which I certainly did not consume” (49). Rather than making a small sacrifice and getting a job to help his mother, Ignatius jumps on his mom’s case for her drinking habits. Ignatius most obviously displays his rudeness when he runs into a few artists on the street in.the French Quarter while he is selling hot dogs. He approaches the women and without even taking much time to inspect their paintings, and he gives them the unwanted and unnecessary advice to “stop giving teas and brunches and settle down to the business of learning how to draw” (244). A normal, respectful person would have at least had a conversation with the artists about their work before disrespectfully ridiculing it without being provoked to do so. In the beginning of the novel, Ignatius is the passenger of a car crash piloted by his mother, Irene Reilly, who drunkenly crashes into the front of a building which launches them into severe debt. Mrs. Reilly, who is becoming increasingly frustrated with the sporadic behaviors of Ignatius, decides her son must finally get a job to help pay off the damages of car crash.
A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court, a novel written by Mark Twain, often depicts armor as protection and a sign of nobility in King Arthur’s sixth-century Europe. The armor used for protection often times does not work during the book and many die while wearing it. Hank Morgan tries wearing armor, and decides never to wear it again because of the tremendous uncomfort and the way the armor makes him feel trapped, both mentally and physically. Despite showing tremendous protection and fortitude, armor often times traps an individual’s humanity and lacks proper defense.

In the thriller short story “All the Kings Horses” by Kurt Vonnegut, the main character portrays himself as an excellent and intelligent individual. Reason being in the short story Kelly was placed in a really bad situation. However because of specific reasons; his actions, determination, and sacrifices he was able to get the result he wanted while being under so much pressure. In his journal of his adventures as a working boy, Ignatius shows off his learnedness through his rather formal writing style in a setting that does not call for such. The decisive use of language develops the extent of Ignatius’s attack on Myrna’s philosophy on top of developing Ignatius as a character.
“The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell is a story about a man, Sanger Rainsford, whose ideals and overall character change throughout the story, specifically about hunting, due to his encounter with General Zaroff. At the beginning of the story Rainsford is a stuck up man. He could not care less about any other living things other than humans. He believes all living wildlife are expendable and only there for his pleasure of hunting. During the story Rainsford has to make many quick and overall difficult decisions during his encounters with the ocean, General Zaroff, and the island wilderness to survive, that change how he thinks about animals.

Kathy hated the political life style and gatherings, in this degree she was secretly relieved when he was unable to become a U.S. Senator.

Throughout the entire story, Ignatius displays gluttony in the amount of food he eats and arrogance in the way he views society and its people.

In Charlotte Perkins Gilman's "The Yellow Wallpaper", the narrator of the story is constantly at battle with many different forces, such as John, her husband, the yellow wallpaper that covers the walls of her room, and ultimately herself. Throughout the story the narrator further detaches herself from her life and becomes fixated on the yellow wallpaper that surrounds her in her temporary home, slowly driving her mad. The narrator of "The Yellow Wallpaper" is a major and dynamic character as she is the main character of the story, and throughout the story her personality and ways of thinking change drastically.
