Louie Zamperini. He was a legend if you ask me. Not many people know who it is. Louise and Parini was an Olympic runner who is also fought in World War II. Louie Was captured by Japan to become a prisoner of war where he would be put through the most gruesome, brutal months of his life.

Unbroken is a biography by Laura Hillenbrand about the life of Louis Zamperini. The story begins with Louis’ early life, growing up in Torrance, California. In high school, Louie began running for his high school track team, and broke the high school national record for the one-mile run. He competed in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, and was drafted into the Army Air Corps in WWII. On a mission, his plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean and two others survived with him.

The author that published Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption on November 16, 2010, was Laura Hillenbrand. This story takes place mostly in the Pacific Ocean and many of prisoner-of-war camps in Japan. This book is about a man named Louie Zamperini that was an agitator at a young age that had also trained to beat the four-minute-mile, but decided to put everything on hold when World War II transpired. After Louie enlisted in the army, he served as a B-24 Liberator bombardier, but as he was traveling over the Pacific Ocean, his plane was shot down by another aircraft.

In the Article “Excerpts from Unbroken” By Laura Hillenbrand POWs in Japanese were made “Invisible” during their imprisonment because they treated them terribly. According “Every man in camp was thin, many emaciated… Rations weren’t nearly enough…Unheated,drafty rooms.” (Hillenbrand,Part 2) This shows that the POWs were treated terribly by the Japanese , making them have a harsh life in their imprisonment. This proves that the Japanese made the Pows invisible during their harsh bad imprisonment.

Morgan Cook Unbroken Book Review 1/16/18 Mrs. Campbell Honors Literature PD 1 “Unbroken” by Laura Hillenbrand was published in 2010. From the first chapter i was hooked. Hillenbrand’s imagery and style caught my eye and pulled me into Louie’s story with no hesitation. I absolutely loved Hillenbrand’s structure in this book and it was much better than others i have read.

In the memoir Unbroken, Laura Hillenbrand and Louie Zamperini show that having a determined mindset can help get through the horrors of POW camps. The POW camp Louie was in was terrible. He would get beaten everyday for no reason and be forced to do hard labor. The author uses words such as “broken”, “fractured, and “shattered” and paired them with the word “POW” to show that the Japanese soldiers had no mercy against the American soldiers. Throughout the POW camp terrible things happen to Louie and he is forced to see horrible events.

Unbroken centers around a soldier named Louie Zamperini. Louie is on the American side fighting for peace in the South Pacific against the Japanese during WW2. Louie was a lieutenant in the U.S Air Force ,and served as a crewmember on the Green Hornet(B-24) Louie functioned as a bombardier who took pride in his duty. He was a true patriot.

The American politician, diplomat, and activist Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “People grow through experience if they meet life honestly and courageously. This is how character is built”. In the Biography Unbroken by Lauren Hillenbrand, the main character, Louis Zamperini, sets a great example to represent this quote. Louis shows his confidence by once the “bad kid”, soon Louie realizes he needs to change his ways with the help of his brother, Pete. As a soldier in World War II, he faced many challenges with his crew and within himself. Over time

This was important to his survival, because not only was he having something to eat, but emotionally he felt that he wasn’t playing the ‘rules of Japan’s game’. Lastly, to resist attempts of dehumanization, Louie never let any of the guards see his true depression. This is shown

Louie says, “He cannot break me” (Hillenbrand 113). By saying this Louie resisted the attempts of the Bird trying to make him feel invisible. Even thought Louie was already resisting the Bird, Louie and the other POWs resisted even more, “...They threw dirt in gas tanks” (Hillenbrand 179) Louie and the other POWs did this because they were being treated like slaves in the coal mine. Although not as harsh as what the POWs went through, the POWs threw dirt into the gas tank so that the Japanese could learn not to mess with the POWs because they will fight back.

Shortly after being captured, Zamperini is taken to a POW camp where he is abused physically and mentally. Throughout the novel the readers learn that the hardships of war effect Louie, causing the loss of his dignity. After Louie was captured by the Japanese, he was taken to a POW camp ,Ofuna, they began to deprive Louie of human essentials such as food and water. To make matters worse, they started to conduct experiments on him and his comrade Phil, “The doctor pushed more solution into his vein, and the spinning worsened.

Hatchet does a better job of telling the story. Hatchet has very descriptive and exciting words. Even though ‘A cry in the wild is a movie’, I think it could explain the movie better. Like have a more exciting,get you off the edge of the seat, kind of movie. For example,in the book i feel like the scences were shorter.

In the novel Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger readers are introduced to a young man named Holden Caulfield who introduces himself and begins to tell his story of how and why he left his school; Pencey Prep. In the story, Holden explains how he is being kicked out of school and doesn't want his parents to know and so leaves school early. throughout the story, Holden explains what happens to him before he must go home and act like he is home from school for a break instead of being kicked out. When it comes to the topic of Author's purpose of The will of individual vs the will of the majority some will think the purpose is to show that Holden going against the will of society to rebel, however, I think the author’s purpose of The Catcher in the Rye was to show that the individual will manifest in his desire for isolation comes from his is fear and damage done by fear of pain, failure, rejection, and is unwilling or unable to go along with the majority. This all shown through Imagery, symbolism, and diction.
