In 1776 Congress sent me on my most important diplomatic mission. I was asked to persuade France to help America in its fight for independence. Before I left, I lent Congress about 4,000 pounds of my own money to help carry on the war. I reached Paris just before Christmas. "The Dr. Franklin," as I was called in Paris, was very popular. My simple dignity appealed to everyone. People even paid for seats in windows to watch me ride past in my coach. I enjoyed the parties given in my honor and made many close friends among the French people. I also worked very hard. First I had to secure formal recognition for my country. Then I had to persuade the French that an alliance would be helpful to them. I was successful, and the Treaty of Paris was signed Feb. …show more content…
In 1781 I was named one of the commissioners to negotiate peace with Great Britain. When the Revolution was won, I was one of the signers of the peace treaty. I kept up my scientific interests. I was fascinated to see the first free balloon flight of humans, which took place in November 1783. When someone who was also watching the event questioned the usefulness of this new invention, I replied with a question, "Of what use is a newborn baby?" I was by this time an old man, and I was ill. I wrote in a letter that I wondered if I would live to get home. I left for America in 1785 with tender farewell messages from my French friends, many of whom begged him to stay. I received a gift from the king and warm praise from French leaders. On the voyage home I, still fascinated with scientific experiments, measured ocean currents and water temperature. I believed that my public life was over and that I would finally be able to give all my time to science. When I arrived in Philadelphia on Sept. 14, 1785, I discovered that a great welcome awaited him. Cannons were fired and bells were rung. For an entire week the welcoming ceremonies went on as the city celebrated my
Article V of the Constitution states that “The congress…shall propose Amendments to this Constitution”. Amendments to the Constitution are essential and allow for changes in law as times and values change. In today's world, I believe that there are many necessary amendments that should be proposed in order for the supreme law of the land to remain up to date with the values of a modern world. If I were able to propose the 28th amendment to the U.S. Constitution it would state, “Those serving in congress shall be subjected to term limits in order to ensure congressional turnover. Those serving in the Senate will be subjected to a maximum of two terms totaling twelve years, those serving in the House of Representatives will be subjected to a
Finally the colonists had won their independence. The war was truly over. It had lasted well over eight years. In September 1782 after the Revolutionary War, Benjamin Franklin, along with John Adams and John Jay, began official peace negotiations with the British. Benjamin Franklin was one of the people to sign the Treaty of Paris.
The American Revolution took place between 1765 and 1783, during which 13 American colonies rejected the British rule and gained independence. Significant leaders during that time known to LaFayette was George Washington, the United States first President, Alexander Hamilton, the first Treasury, and Thomas Jefferson, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence. LaFayette firmly believed in liberty and equality for all (LaFayette, 1777). He journeyed to America so he can help fight the British with the colonists; in his words in a letter LaFayette sent to his wife, Adrienne de Noailles de LaFayette, “the happiness of America is intimately connected with the happiness of all mankind; she will become the safe and respected asylum
I grew up on Pope’s Creek plantation, with my father Augustine Washington and my mother Marry Washington. The plantation is located on a never-ending creek. The water was staunch, and home to an abundance of wild life. I lived in a typical farm house, a one-story frame building rooms on ground floor, attic, and two large chimneys on each side of the house. I had a total of eight siblings including my half-brothers, two of the eight died in birth.

The data gives me an insight of how much work is put in recruiting process for congressional elections. I never thought of how the congressional elections work out. Their needs to be a lot of money raised.
The urgency was of great importance as I needed to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were on their way to arrest them. After being ferried across the Charles River to Charlestown, I made certain that the “Sons of Liberty,” a local committee, had taken notice of my signals I had
With the help of France, the Americans finally won their independence from Great Britain. In a picture, it shows the American Revolution when “France sent an estimated 12,000 soldiers and 32,000 sailors to the American war effort” (Document 4). By participating in the American Revolution, France was impacted by Enlightenment ideas because it illustrated how the men in America had much better rights and were treated fairly. In addition, the Revolution was possibly started by just 1 signed piece of paper. In 1776, one of the most popular and well known founding fathers led the fight for independence in the royal colonies. In David Hackett Fischer’s book, “Washington’s Crossing”, he describes the troubles and even the unknowns of Washington’s experiences during the Revolutionary War. Fischer goes into detail about the first approach of the British as their massive naval fleet surrounds the state of New York all the way up to the point when the British became the defensive force rather than the offensive. “Washington’s Crossing” illustrates how the American Revolution wasn’t just pure success as at the beginning of the war, the Americans took many losses that almost completely crushed the revolution entirely. However, eventually the tides would

The arrival of the first Europeans in the Americas is dramatically captured through the many writers who attempted to communicate what they saw, experienced and felt. What is more, the very purposes of their treacherous travel and colonization are clearly seen in their writings; whether it is poetry, history or sermons. Of the many literary pieces available today, William Bradford and John Winthrop’s writings, even though vary because the first is a historical account and the second is a sermon, stand out as presenting a clear trust in God, the rules that would govern them and the reason they have arrived in the Americas. First of all, William Bradford provides an in-depth look into the first moment when the Puritans arrived in the Americas. In fact, he chronicles the hardships they face on their way to Plymouth, yet he includes God’s provision every step of the way.
