Abortion has been a controversial charged topic that encompasses complex ethical, moral, legal, and even religious dimensions. The debate surrounding abortion largely revolves around two opposing positions: pro-choice and pro-life. Proponents of the pro-choice stance argue that the decision regarding pregnancy should rest with the woman who is carrying the baby, emphasizing the importance of women's reproductive rights and bodily autonomy. On the other hand, advocates of the pro-life perspective prioritize the inherent value and right to life of the unborn fetus, advocating for its protection and preservation. Given the diverse and often conflicting opinions on this matter, the question of whether a pregnancy should be dependent on the choice …show more content…
Legalized and regulated abortion has been proven to be a safe medical procedure that prioritizes the well-being of both individuals involved. (pro-con) When abortion is illegal or highly restricted, women may resort to unsafe methods, posing significant risks to their health and lives. What are the women that experience those pregnancies do? This is particularly true for those facing unexpected or unwanted pregnancies, a situation that often affects teenage women, especially those who are low-income and predominantly from marginalized communities, such as Black women.(pro-con) When faced with an unintended pregnancy, women find themselves in complex and challenging circumstances. Some may lack the financial resources, emotional support, or stability necessary to provide a nurturing environment for a child. Surprisingly, around 45% of all abortions are unsafe, where 97% of them take place in developing countries.(WHO) By allowing legal access to abortion, women can make informed decisions about their reproductive health, taking into account their personal circumstances and overall well-being. Prohibiting abortion does not eliminate the need for it. It simply drives women to seek alternative, often unsafe, methods of terminating a pregnancy. One major factor is the financial strain associated with raising a child. Many women facing unintended pregnancies find themselves in challenging financial circumstances, lacking the necessary resources to adequately provide for a child's needs. A study conducted in 2013 examining the reasons people seek abortion in the US revealed that approximately 40% of respondents cited financial concerns as a primary motivation (Medical News). These financial concerns often encompass general economic hardships. For individuals already struggling to make ends meet, the additional costs of child-rearing can create substantial challenges and may adversely affect their overall well-being. It is particularly noteworthy that teenagers, who are often low-income individuals, are disproportionately affected by unintended pregnancies (Gender Data). Such pregnancies frequently disrupt educational paths, interrupting teenage mothers' academic pursuits and limiting their opportunities for future success (Gender Data). Moreover, unintended pregnancies can also hinder women's educational and career aspirations. Women pursuing higher education or focused on building their professional lives may face difficult choices when confronted with an unintended pregnancy. The decision to continue with the pregnancy can potentially disrupt their educational progress or career advancement (Gender Data). Access
In numerous cases, women who are wanting to follow through with abortion often become targeted as a
Pregnancy complications can include an ectopic pregnancy, preeclampsia and eclampsia, and so many more. In many cases, these symptoms and disorders can be so severe it can cost a woman’s life. “In 2021, 1,205 women died of maternal causes in the United States. ”(Donna L. Hoyert). Now imagine these numbers if abortion was off the table, the numbers would skyrocket.
“It’s real easy to say you’re 100% against abortion when you’ll never have to make that decision.” - Anonymous. Women everyday have to make that decision, to decide whether or not to have an abortion, but the catch is most of those women are in circumstances where they cannot gain access to an abortion. “Approximately 25% of the world's population lives in countries with highly restrictive abortion laws” (Abortion..) Women in 74 different countries who have, intentionally or unintentionally, fallen pregnant are not allowed to have an abortion. For many people the idea of not having complete and utter control over their body is unfathomable, as it should be.
Before Roe v. wade the number of deaths from illegal abortions was around 5000 and in the 50s and 60s the number of illegal abortions ranged from 200,000 to 1.2 million per year. These illegal abortions pose major health risks to the life of the woman including damage to the bladder, intestines as well as rupturing of the uterus. The choice to become a mother must be given to the woman most importantly because it’s her body, her health, and she will be taking on a great responsibility. A woman’s choice to choose abortion should not be restricted by anyone; there are multiple reasons why abortion will be the more sensible decision for the female.
They argue that the mother is taking away innocent life, they advocate those moments after pregnancy occurs, the fetus becomes a human life with a soul. They encourage women who are considering abortion to rethink their huge decision because they believed women have better options besides abortion. if they're aborting because of simply not wanting to raise a child, activists recommend women to give birth and give up the kid for adoption or "foster care". according to them, legalizing abortion is unethical and immoral and will only lead to the death of more innocent unborn children. therefore, the best way to prevent such dishonorable and unethical practices is to criminalize and restrict access to abortion.
Women should not be forced to have a child. There is no wrong is ending an unwanted pregnancy. “Having a child is a fundamental life altering decision, and it is for the women to make this decision” (Sanger 9). Every baby that comes into this world, should be wanted. There is no point of bringing an unwanted child into this world, when there is another
34-36). If a mother does not have enough time to take care of her children, then then it is possible for the child to be neglected and not get the care or love they need. Another reasons why a woman wouldn’t want an abortion is “'I can't afford a baby now (e.g, unmarried, student, can't afford childcare or basic needs) (73% in 2004 and 69% in 1987)” (Knapp, 2007, pg. 34-36).
Abortion Abortion is the ending of pregnancy by abolishing a fetus or embryo before it can survive outside the uterus. Abortion is a very controversial topic, for example, one side of this topic believes abortion is cruel and committing murder, while the other side believes that since the fetus or embryo isn 't developed enough to be considered a living human being yet, that abortion is not commiting murder. Despite this information, there is a lot more to abortion than the opinion of it being “right” or “wrong”. According to “Students for life” who are pro life, about 1 million abortions are executed each year in the US. That data adds up to 22% of pregnancies ending in abortion.
One of the most significant negative aspects surrounding abortion is the ethical dilemma it poses concerning potential human life. Many opponents of abortion argue that life begins at conception, and therefore, terminating a pregnancy is tantamount to ending a developing human being's life. This viewpoint raises profound moral questions about the right to life and the value of each individual, regardless of their stage of development. The contentious nature of this issue lies in the varying perspectives on when personhood or moral status begins, with some advocating for strict protection from the moment of conception and others focusing on the point of viability or birth.
Abortion has many pros and cons ha deserve to be properly discussed ad deliberated upon, before one makes a decision to support or oppose it. Every year man young women within the United States find themselves faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Whether it was unplanned or they were a victim of un consensual sex,it should naturally be the woman 's choice to have the baby or not. As young wom it can be more stressful to take on the responsibil of a child,i can even be life threatening. In some cases it is necessary to abo the baby
Abortion has been a controversial issue in our society. The options are which path to take in life. The two paths we have to take or to choose from are give the child a chance to live or to be a teenage parent or having an abortion. In the young age of a pregnant women will be the hardest part of her life and when she doesn’t think that she can deal with the fact that she will having a child in young age the only way that she will take would be to get an abortion. The fetus will be decide to abort by their mother resulting in or caused by its death.
A lot of women think that abortion is the fastest and easiest way to get out of their “problem.” What fault to the poor children have? If anything, it is the fault of the adult. Adults have the chance to have protected intercourse, yet they still don’t and blame a life that is about to start by aborting it.
For example, finds out whether continuing or terminating a pregnancy cause greater physical or psychological harms and risks to the mother. On the other hand, Bonevski & Adams (2001) further added that abortion may expose the mother to grief and regret. As such, it is important to gain mother’s consent before making the decision. Apart from that, in resolving slightly similar case study of 18 years old student was referred in view of her request for termination of pregnancy. She was gang-raped and found out she is pregnant.
In the United States, more than fifty percent of pregnancies are unintended with fifty percent ending in abortions. Fifty three percent of the unplanned pregnancies occur in ten percent of women who do not use contraception. Fifty five percent of the women getting abortions are under twenty five years of age, with twenty one percent of that being teenagers. Statistically, women who come from a poor background are three times more likely to have an abortion than women who are in the middle-class or upper-class group. Specifically, single women who came from a family with an annual income of less than twenty five thousand dollars were more likely to have an abortion.
This is mostly because I feel there are so many ways to prevent a pregnancy. In my opinion abortion is not only un-necessary but also an irresponsible route. Throughout this paper I will discuss both sides of
