How Does Acid Rain Affect Our Society

At this point a person might ask themselves what is a defoliant? A defoliant is a pesticide used to remove leaves from plants and it was also used as a war tactic in different wars. During the Vietnam war, a defoliant was used called agent orange. They called it Agent Orange because of the color.

One of them is burning coal. The encyclopedia defines coal as a solid fossil fuel formed from the remains of land plants that were buried 300-400 years ago and exposed to intense heat and pressure over those millions of years. It is burned in power plants to generate electricity. Data says that 44% of the United States electricity comes from burning coal. The National Mining Association reported that in 2009, 55.4 percent of Maryland’s electricity came from it.

Acidification or acid rain as it is commonly referred to, is norway’s leading environmental problem. Acid Rain comes from sulfur dioxide emissions originating from the united kingdom and norway's other surrounding countries. The Acid rain is damaging many of norway's forests, and lakes(State of the Environment) The forests are being affected because the acid rain the making the trees vulnerable to disease, extreme weather, and insects by destroying their leaves, damaging the bark and arresting their growth. The tree damage is mainly in eastern europe regardless it is a still a problem that could affect norway one day.

One form of energy that could prevent the landscape from suffering is using Hydroelectric power. Hydropower is made when the water being held in a reservoir is passed through turbines turning the kinetic energy of the water into mechanical energy when the water's force moves the turbines.

Now that we know what can happen in the power plants and what causes them, we can stop them from happening and if they do happen, we can fix them without causing harm. Most power plants last up to 80 years of operation without any problems while fossil fuel power plants only last up to 40 years. Also, many of the coal power plants around the country are reaching their effective lifespan. This means that we will need to either replace them with many new coal power plants, or replace them with about a dozen nuclear power plants.

In Newtok Alaska, the villages are built on frozen solid soil. With the climate changing the soil is thawing out and the ice is melting. Some villages have even begun to sink in into the ground. Now the villagers must relocate to higher ground and must rebuild on solid ground that won't be affected by the climate change. He believes as many due that nonrenewable resources are harmful to all aspects of life. The energy we use now is harmful to our planet, to humans, and to animals. Scientists are taking steps to making the world a better place. They found sources that replenished naturally in a short amount of time and are less destructive in all aspects.

Introduction: In this task I will be researching the effect that acid rain has on the rate of plant growth. Acid rain is any type of precipitation with a high pH, with high levels of nitric acids. The reason why I had chosen this topic was because acid rain seems to have a great effect on the effect of plant growth, and plants play a very important role in our ecosystem. Acid rain is a major problem in our environment when we are not able to neutralize the acidity.

In automobile an exhaust gas is emitted during a combustion process. The exhaust gas is actually a combination of many different gases such as N2, CO2, H2O and O2. Though some are harmless, there are few that are harmful and are considered major pollutants. The major pollutants are Hydrocarbons (HC), Nitrogen oxide (NOx), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulfur dioxide (SO2), etc. These gases can affect human health in both short and long term.

I feel concerned that anthropogenic activities have damaged the atmosphere which has led to severe detrimental effects over time. Studying Chemistry enabled me to learn the science behind global warming and the consequences for it. This made me think, what current technology could be further utilised to reduce greenhouse gas emission to the atmosphere? Due to this, I want to talk about electric vehicles as I feel that electric cars are the future of humankind. I will persuade you to leave behind the poisonous, toxic, filthy fumes of your present vehicle and switch to an electric car.
