An investigation was immediately launched through the collection of evidence from the crime scene, multiple autopsies of Michael Brown’s body, and interviews with witnesses. For several months following the shooting and after the Grand Jury adjourned, there was immense public speculation and scrutiny over whether Officer Wilson justifiably shot in self-defense or in racially motivated cold blooded murder. However, research demonstrates that often times men of color are treated harshly which leads to negative perceptions of police officers. Police brutality is a crime that is has been surfacing in the news recently. Some people are just starting to realize that these injustices against the black community really occur, while others are well aware. The recent shootings, different run-ins with officers being filmed while doing such harmful actions against African American men is an example of police brutality and, that reminds us that as a society work needs to be done to improve police and community relations. A black male cannot even walk down the street on a cold night because he might be a suspect from something or he may be of danger to the people around.

Unfortunately that is today’s society and how it plays a role on people’s lives. Gray’s death exposed the long-simmering mistrust between the city’s cops and the African-American communities they’re sworn to protect. The resulting protests and the national attention they attracted laid bare the systemic inequalities between poor, majority-black neighborhoods like Sandown-Winchester, where Gray lived his entire brief life, and the city’s growing, majority-white neighborhoods surrounding the Inner Harbor. Dorian stated, “ We were walking down the street an empty street we were just walking down minding our own business were both heading home.” When police officer Darren Wilson tried to stop them they started to run because officer Wilson fired his arm; Dorian stated that he ducked for cover behind a car because he feared for his life.

Both suspects were unarmed and harmless so ending their lives was an action that shouldn’t have happened. Michael Brown was facing the police officer to basically surrender when he was shot 12 times. Brown’s friend that was present when his death happened told MSNBC, “The officer came up to us and told us to “get the **** on the sidewalk” and then threatened us by saying “I’m going to shoot you.” (Johnson, NBC News). This is a prime example of police brutality and excessive use of violence.

Michael Brown was an 18 year old African-American young-man visiting his grandmother for the summer when he was repeatedly shot and eventually killed by Officer Darren Wilson. Witnesses claim that the officer initiated contact and, after a struggle in the street, Michael Brown tried to surrender by putting his hands up. This is when Officer Wilson fired multiple shots, one of which hit him in the head, killing him. This incident led to complete and utter chaos in Ferguson, Missouri, where Brown was killed. During the day, there was peace and calm but when night came, it was a different story.

It 's been about a year and a half since 18 year old Michael Brown was shot by Officer Darren Wilson. This ordeal still holds a lot of controversy. I, myself believe that Wilson 's action were unjustifiable and way worse than just unfair. Regardless of whether or not Michael had stolen something, shooting to kill was unnessecary. It was also unacceptabe and disrespectful for his body to be taken away hours later and in a cop car.

The killing of Michael Brown led to an outrage within the black community in Ferguson due to the failure for the indictment of Darren Wilson, the police officer who was responsible for the murder. Michael Brown was shot by Darren Wilson 6 times. The Ferguson community believe the justice system is broken and argue that the killing shows racial profiling at its peak. The Ferguson Police Department left Michael Browns body on the street and they also refused to answer questions to identify the officer that had killed Michael Brown. The New York Times, an American newspaper company, states that “The grand juries task was to determine whether there was probable cause to believe that Officer Wilson should be charged with a crime, and if so, which one.”

Are Police Racist On April 29, 2017 Jordan Edwards, unarmed, was leaving a house party that was getting “out of hand”. He was fatally shot and killed while in the car leaving with his brother and three other unarmed teenagers. Jordan was considered a great student and he was liked by many of his teachers and classmates. This is just one of the many times police officers have fatally shot someone that was unarmed and just happened to be black.

Police brutality is a serious injustice which impacts many individuals in the United States and is an issue that needs to be addressed and resolved. Millions of American citizens interact with law enforcement, “about 1 million of these civilians experience police threat or use of force during these interactions”(Law Enforcement Epidemiology Project). Police brutality against Black people in the US is nothing new; it has existed here for a very long time. Historical evidence confirms that Black people are the victims of police brutality.

Police brutality has became one of the most serious issues in the United States and citizens believe that the police forces have become corrupt. Approximately 32,340 people have incidents with the police that involve force. Which if you do the math that is only 1% of the population. When a police officer shoots and kills somebody they always have the same excuse. “He was running towards me reaching for my gun” or “He was posing as an immediate threat”.

Many People in the United States has been victims of police brutality, being accused of committing a crime you did not do just because of how you look. Or, being treated differently just because of where you are from. Regardless of how you look, Police Officers are there to help people, not hurt them. This is affecting many people in the United States, many have been victims or has a relative that experienced this. Police Brutality is using excessive or unnecessary force when dealing with civilians.

Police brutality remains a common yet controversial topic around the world. Police brutality is “the use of excessive and/or unnecessary force by police when dealing with civilians” (thelawdictionary.org). It’s a topic that segregates communities and makes each other their enemy. Specifically, a white officer has been the enemy of the black community. Unfortunately, the tension between police and blacks grew over the past few decades.

Police Brutality is an ongoing problem and existent concern in the United States and should be resolved immediately. Law enforcement must function as an element that consists of organized and civilized officers. The presence of police brutality is becoming more of an issue as society grows. The problem posed by the illegal exercise of police power is an ongoing reality for individuals of a disfavored race, class, or sexual orientation. Police brutality must be stopped so that police do not forget who they are serving – not themselves, but the public.
