Description On Thursday October 22, 2015 the after school program at BUILD host an event called, lights out. During this event my task was to order and pick up six pizzas, four sodas, hand sanitizer and have it prepared and ready by 3:00pm, when the afterschool program starts. While waiting for the coordinator at BUILD to give me the money and the tax-exempt paper, I began to run behind of schedule. After finally getting the money and the tax –exempt paper, I noticed it was 2:15 and in my mind I knew that I had to stop at the convenient store, order the pizzas, and also go to the dollar store. Unfortunately after making all the stops I finally made it back to the program at about 3:05, which I was late. Reaction My first reaction was that …show more content…
Which can fall under the social work skills and values of competence and professionalism. Action If faced with this task again, I would first order the pizzas ahead of time maybe a hour earlier. I also may go to the store a day before for the sodas and hand sanitizers, and I would also get it touch with my coordinator hours before hand to ensure that everything will be done in a timely fashion. This action seems best because I believe I will produce the best result in affectively exercising time management. Relation to Learning Outcomes As situation apparently relates to the social work value of service, time management (skills), and the ethical principle that social workers should practice within their areas of competence and develop and enhance their professional expertise. This situation clearly relates to the social value of service due to my responsibility to help others and be of service. This situation also relates to time management because it caused for certain task to be done and prepared at a certain time. Then this situation relates to the ethical principle of competency, because as a student of social I should uphold the value of being on time and prepare at all time. The challenge for me in this area of learning was my understanding of the importance of being on time and the importance of successfully exercising my time management
Revised Standards require evaluation at case closure, which also provide a natural opportunity for the volunteer to provide a reciprocal evaluation of their experience and supervision. Regular evaluations between the CASA volunteer and staff provide an opportunity for coaching and improvement in both the volunteer and staff performance. However, the Program Director and Case Supervisor conduct 3-6 month case planning reviews and believe that they can develop a document the will include the evaluation of the volunteer at that time. The program will need to submit a comprehensive plan for with specific activities and measurable factors related to in-service training and volunteer evaluations. .

My second reasoning for changing the funding and time a person can use it is to make it more beneficial to those who have it. Obviously, the program isn’t for everyone and was meant for only the ones that needed the extra incentive and help for college. By limiting the amount of people using it to lower incomes and increasing the amount given has been shown to not only increase graduation rate but enrollment rates as well. Along with this putting a cap on it after four years is better in many ways. First this allows it to be able to more of an incentive to graduate on time for any given program.
Children who grow up in poverty are faced with a series of issues which impact their education and social atmosphere. In both the school and home setting these children lack the proper resources which they need to succeed academically. Across the country, people have begun creating programs which aim to help children in poverty succeed, despite their socioeconomic status. These programs range from after-school reading, tutoring services, charter schools, and free summer programs. All of these programs provide children with extra academic help which they may not be receiving in school or at home.
Am I a talented, high-achieving, and motivated student who is looking to make the most of of my college experience? Am I interested in putting myself in the best academic position for a successful career after graduation? Am I looking for opportunities to think critically and express myself creatively in a supportive community of like-minded students and faculty? Yes, yes, and yes!

I learned in this activity how crucial time management skills will be to my ability to complete this course successfully. The analysis from the questionnaire (Table 2) as well as keeping a record of what activities I focus on for a couple of days, opened my eyes to a few areas of improvement. From the patterns observed I could see that most of my time was taken up by work and commitments as well as procrastination. Not being able to juggle theses successful led to irritation and was unproductive. Research suggests that managing ones emotions, being self-aware and self-motivate can be factors for success for a student (Allan, 2009).
Social workers are there to help meet the basic needs of human, also with the need of helping encourage, mentoring, and empower human struggles in society and poverty. The code is designed for many reasons. It identifies core values in which a social worker mission is based, the code summarize broad ethnic principle such as; challenge injustices, respect the inherent dignity and worth of the person, behave in a trustworthy manner, and help people in need and to address social problems. The code is generally designed to help people with relevant needs to there every day life. These codes help apply better and relationship with the worker to client.
Special Education is an umbrella title for an educational department that focuses on the rehabilitation of students and providing services for students who require extra academic support to be successful in the current school setting but are also in need of learning life skills that will help them to be successful later. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines special education as “classes or instruction designed for students with special educational needs” (Merriam-webster.com, 2017). To assist students with disabilities, the United States government continues to use the current reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004 which is currently known as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of December 2015
This is as to how the social worker and the population interact. It involves the people making sense in their interaction. This theory enables the social worker to study the behaviour of the people he or she is involved with. This is demostrated on her role as a consellor and educator.
The main thing in achieving the goals of social worker is to base his relationship with clients on values so he could again feel his worth and that he is needed and useful for the society. In the social work the following moral principles are of most importance: humaneness, love, empathy, equality, tolerance, respect, courage, honour and honesty. The links between these values constitute the content of dignity, they are its basic components (Virbalienė, Žydžiūnaitė, 2010). That means that if a social worker follows these values while working with a client, it is easier for him to feel his worth and restore his dignity. No other specialist has so many close links with person’s destiny as a social worker (Prakapas, 2007).
Over the semester I have learned many new aspects of social work that have helped deepen my understanding of what social work is really about. This course has taught me things that will help me become a better person and will also help me with my future working with children. Self reflection is a key skill to have when working in social work. We need to understand how we are, and our social location, influence everything we do with social work. My beliefs and values would be beneficial for being a social worker because I have a caring no judgment, personality that allows me to be a neutral and to listen to people.
It is easy then to feel in conflict with a central ethical principle in social work which is; “the clients’ right to self-determination, to decide for themselves”. Response thinking has been criticised for not seeing the human being as a unique individual, and that it can lead to a simplified and mechanical view of the human being. However, in social learning theory, where the cognitive processes and the “creative being” is also emphasized, the individuality of the human being is in the forefront. Social learning theory suggests that human behaviour is learned as individuals interact with their environment.
Time management: Time management is a very crucial component if you are willing to have a productive lifestyle. To be honest, I have always had issues with managing my time efficiently. This problem had become a huge obstacle once I got into college. Thus, attending a lecture that focuses on time management helped me a lot with this problem by introducing me to different aspects related to time management: planning, SMART goals, and important/urgent matrix. Learning to make a specific plan for my daily tasks and make a to-do list to make my day as productive as possible is something very helpful which was advised to me by the instructor of this lecture Mr. Irfan.
Since social workers work with a variety of populations, they experience some dilemmas during delivering their services to clients, hence the need for ethical conduct. According to Barker (2003) an ethical dilemma refers to a situation that occurs when two or more moral values seem to be equally legal but contradictory and the practitioner is required to make the best possible choice from among them. So it is important to have ethics that will help in taking ethical decisions. Barker (2003) defines ethics as a system of moral principles and perceptions about right versus wrong and the resulting philosophy of conduct that is practiced by a
