All Arnold's Life: Passage Analysis

Politics: a constant debate between right or wrong and moral or immoral. Because of these conflicting arguments, some politicians resort to extreme measures to further themselves against their opponent. All the King’s Men by Robert Penn Warren deals with the strict division between the logical fairness of using truth to further oneself politically and the immorality of using facts as blackmail. In some instances, one may view blackmail may as logical and fair, since it is primarily based on truth.

He uses people's situations, hardships and difficulties to show us the compassionate and the uncompassionate. Holden’s Struggle To Find Himself: Throughout the novel, The Catcher In The Rye, by J.D. Salinger, Holden struggles to find himself and who he truly is in order to be happy. His struggles relate to many things that he does or say in particular. Holden lacks with a social status with women and his family, whether it’s a relationship or being antisocial. Throughout The Catcher in the Rye, Holden Caulfield experiences the complexities and struggles involved with both physical and emotional relationships.

The book focuses on a young boy named Arnold Spirit who shows persistence and bravery as he defies all odds and strides towards a happier more successful life than his parents and ancestors before him. Arnold is a bright, inspiring young boy who grows up with little fortune and is destined to continue down the path of a poor, misunderstood Indian. However, his fate changes for the better when a spark lights the fire inside of him to strive to pursue a better, more flourishing life as he makes an extraordinary decision to transfer to an all-white school for a worthier education. However, the drastic change of schools puts a burden on his family to get him to school as well as leads to extreme bullying from not just kids at his new school but also from his fellow Indians in his hometown. In The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, I learned that it doesn 't matter what your situation is and what you are expected to accomplish in your lifetime or what standards have already been set for you because you can be whoever you want to be with hard work, ambition, and confidence.

What seems so striking to me about this passage is that all three sections of the book start with describing 124. It is a strong choice, and it helps link all three parts together, as far as I am concerned. The way it is written makes it sound like the house itself is quiet, but the individual people are quiet as well. The family rarely leaves their house, save for any work or errands, since they do not have a lot of acquaintances. in this way, the people are 124 along with the physical building.

Holden Caulfield lives his life as an outsider to his society, because of this any we (as a reader) find normal is a phony to him. Basically, every breathing thing in The Catcher in the Rye is a phony expect a select few, like Jane Gallagher. What is a phony to Holden and why is he obsessed with them? A phony is anyone who Holden feels is that living their authentic life, like D.B. (his older brother). Or simply anyone who fits into society norms, for example, Sally Hayes.

Passage Analysis #1 Charlotte Perkins Gilman, “The Yellow Wallpaper” Gilman, in this particular passage of “The Yellow Wallpaper,” explores the theme of female oppression through imagery and symbolism of the wall-paper. These elements of literature make the wall-paper come to life for both the narrator and the audience. “The front pattern does move”(55) personifies the wall-paper to be so animate and physically restraining that the woman behind it must shake it to attempt to escape. The italicization of “does” serves to further affirm that the wallpaper exhibits restrictive human-like behaviors - particularly those of dominant men in society. The narrator states that there are “a great many woman behind”(55), extending the metaphor to all Victorian women in the United States and others around the world who are oppressed.

Knowledge - Setting/plot Conflict is a main problem happening at the story which is also the main flow of it, and the characters tires to solve the conflict throughout the story. In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, there is no main conflict throughout story, but have some major conflict which keep continues to flow the story. In the begining, Arthur Dent’s house was about to treaded down for the bypass. When that conflict is solved by getting the house dystoryed, the another big conflict came, which was that Earth was about to get dystoryed to build the galaxy highway.

Passages are defined as intense experiences that have a critical impact on character development (Johnson, 2012). One of my earliest passages was my first job at a movie theater when I was 15 years old. I sold tickets in the box office and encountered many situations where ethics were in question. During my training, one of the older girls who had been working there for a few years and was highly trusted showed me that if a customer forgets their change just set it to the side instead of in the cash drawer, that way if they come back for it, it’s readily available but if they don’t by the end of the night “you can just slip it into your pocket”. Being rather naïve at the time, I accepted this as “normal and acceptable”.
