Life is a game, one which winning or losing both have the same end. We know not of where one goes when death calls our name. Although, if there is a realm in which heroes are taken, Beowulf will be one of the first in line at the gates. No glory or honor will ever match one of which was Beowulf’s. He was king for many years and always tried to keep his people safe from mighty creatures and beasts. Until one day one of which took his last breath. Beowulf’s passing is why we meet on this day to mourn. “They said that of all the kings upon the earth he was the man most gracious and fair-minded, kindest to his people and keenest to win fame.” (Lines 840-842). He was called upon to save another land from Grendel, who was brutally killing Danes. Beowulf fought the ferocious Grendel to save not people of his own home but of a different place. He fought hard to rip off Grendel’s arm and placed it where everyone could see the beast was gone. After, Beowulf stood his ground and fought harder to defeat Grendel’s mother, who was torn because Beowulf had killed her offspring. He swam through waters to reach Grendel’s mother in her home on the bottom of a lake. She was brutal and much stronger than her son and was a harder battle for Beowulf. Although, in the end, Beowulf defeated Grendel’s mother and gained the glory of winning the battle. Our people praised Beowulf for keeping them and others safe through everything throughout his many years. He
