Robert Parkinson’s views on the incentive behind revolutionary war differs from the customary narration. In the book, Parkinson provide a conventional view of the place of the African Americans and Native Americans in the history of the United States. The primary focus of the author is to clarify the roots of the war, the common conflict within the American patriots, and the exclusion of blacks and natives from the boundary of the revolution. The biggest claim made by the author is stereotyping of blacks and natives during the war. The founding fathers, including Washington and Jefferson placed fear in the heart of people by stereotyping the friends and enemy based on skin color.

Chapter 5 “The Revolutionary Era: Crossroads of Freedom,” This chapter focuses on Revolutionary era and the war between Britain and the colonies. It shed light on the lives of the African Americans during the war and the decisions they made to fight with or against the colonies they were enslaved in. Ellis, a professor and historian. This novel focuses on eight of the most influential individuals- Abigail and John Adams, Aaron Burr, Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington. Ellis considers these political leaders and their contributions to the early development of America by examining how their “diversity of personalities and ideologies” was the reason for success, along with their “correspond[ance] with one another about private as well as public matters”, and their ability to “manage the most threatening and divisive issue off the public agenda..slavery” (Ellis 17).

In the text, Philbrick's selection of primary sources serve to develop his thesis into multiple authentic and surreal accounts of differing perspectives between loyalists and patriots. In his focus on primary sources, Philbrick knits together firsthand accounts from various Bostonian residents such as John Adams and John Andrews with events leading up to the war. For the most part, reading each journal and firsthand documentary is refreshing, but there are various points when Philbrick's reliance upon certain accounts prove to be unnecessary and exhaustive. He references to countless sources, and while most were significant, many appeared to have miniscule relevance to the main takeaway. For instances, Philbrick purposed John Andrew's narrative to aid readers in understanding the context of everything taking place in Boston during the 1700's, but most of the information referring to Andrew's personal accounts and the British's evacuation appears

In Samuel Adams: A Life, author Ira Stoll begins Adams’s biography with a prelude explaining the purpose of his book: to describe Samuel Adams, tell why history has largely forgotten him, and serve as a reminder for why we should remember him. On the whole, Stoll is true to his promise; he writes of Adams’s life, pulling accounts from Adams’s contemporaries as well as using excerpts of Adams’s personal correspondence and his numerous newspaper publications. Stoll’s research is evident in that he includes the opinions and research of other historians and Samuel Adams biographers. Stoll’s biography follows Samuel Adams from childhood to death, and thus essentially tells of the origins and formation of the United States. The biography is compelling,

In this chapter of the Founding Brothers, Ellis centers the idea of Slavery. He employs the idea of both hindsight and foresight to explore the collapse of the Congress. He displays the Congress to not stand up to its expectations at both private and public means. Confidential affiliations were tested as the North and South commissioners opened and unraveled their hardships and resentment.

Wood’s argument about the radical nature of the American Revolution was most convincing because he argues the Revolution changed centuries of long held beliefs about equality, self-worth, and other ideas regarding property and labor.
