She wanted a woman’s perspective and she thought she was obliged to write it because she was well educated for a black woman during the times of slavery. Her life and other people alike her had their lives greatly affected by Andrew Jackson and his political roles during the late 1920’s to early 1950’s. Jackson’s policies, politics, and societal roles during and after his presidency affected the lives of enslaved women in the United States between 1828 and 1850.

In the world right now, there is still inequality for all. People are criticized everyday because of how they look, speak, dress, act, etc. In America, although there is people that are changing, there with always be that small group of people that won’t change their views on what they believe is right and wrong in our society. You can also see this in the book, To Kill A Mockingbird, written by author, Harper Lee. All throughout the novel, you can see how white people are superior to the African Americans that live in the same town.

In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, undoubtedly there is more than one type of discrimination displayed. Before we get into that, what exactly is discrimination? Well, to discriminate means to treat someone differently based on what they believe, their age, gender, who they love, even their appearance. The forms that I will be talking about are Sexism, (Prejudice actions based on gender) Racism, (Prejudice actions based on race) classism, (Prejudice actions on those of a different social class) and discrimination on those with a disability.

In 1830, the Indian Removal Act was signed, forcing the Indians to move west of the Mississippi River. 4,000 of the 15,000 Cherokees died along the trail of tears, meaning over 25% of the Cherokees died. Although they did not want to leave their land, they had to because of President Jackson. The Indians should not have been forced off their land. President Jackson did not treat the Indians fairly, the land belonged to the Indians, and the Indians rights were being violated.

Andrew Jackson in “On Indian Removal” uses diction as an uplifting tone. He talks on Indian removal as a great thing for white people when he states, “in relation to the removal of the Indians beyond the white settlements is approaching to a happy consummation.” So the way this creates a uplifting tone is because he states that with the indian removal the whites agree and it would make a happy conclusion. Another thing that Andrew Jackson says is,”It gives me pleasure to announce to Congress that the benevolent policy of the Government” This gives another uplifting tone with “gives me pleasure”. This is important because he gives this bright happy tone when he is talking about a disgusting thing on removing Indians.

In Ernest Gaines’ novel, A Lesson Before Dying, the author uses a third person point of view to assess the issue of racial injustice in the South during the 1940’s. Grant understands that justice is evaluated unfairly and knows that it does not favor the poor and uneducated black man. Due to Grant’s ability to be able to understand others, he successfully learns how to bring justice, while assisting Jefferson. This presents the audience the significance of the novel as a whole, embracing responsibility and facing injustice. Grant feels as if he shouldn’t feel obligated or pressured to help bring justice to Jefferson.

The quote, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. ” summarizes what Harrison is fighting for. The year 2081, there is finally equality, but to be made equal there are many individuals that are made handicapped because they are better than everyone else. Harrison is one that is made handicapped and tension arose between the handicap general and Harrison. Harrison believed that being handicapped stops him from showing his full potential.
