There’s a quote that has been my motto for a long time. The original writer is unknown because several people say it and change or add stuff to it but it says, “The best revenge is no revenge.” This might be how I live my life but that was not the case for Mark Antony. In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, by William Shakespeare, Mark Antony wants revenge for Caesar's death because Antony is so super loyal to Caesar. Shakespeare uses this loyalty to show how being too loyal to someone or something can sometimes shield what is right and cause you to do something that is not at all good for you or the people around you. Mark Antony was super loyal to Caesar. In the beginning of act 1 scene 2 summary It says that Mark Antony offered Caesar a crown 2 or 3 times. This shows Antony’s loyalty because he didn’t just offer Caesar the crown once and stop when Caesar said no but kept offering the crown to him no matter what. This …show more content…
It shows that everyone knew how close they were to each other they just underestimated Antony's loyalty and how far he would go to defend Caesar’s honor. This helps to develop the theme because it again shows that they underestimate Antony and just how loyal he is to Caesar. He’s so loyal in fact that after Caesar’s death he caused a war to breakout. When Anony is talking to the crowd of people that has gathered around for an explanation for why Caesar was murdered, he undermines Brutus and what Brutus had previously said by persistently repeating how Brutus is “an honorable man” (III.ii.206-226). This is the climax for this theme because it shows that Antony started a war over Caesar’s death. He causes people to turn their backs on those they trusted and thought were honorable, Brutus and Casca, and go out to murder them. The people were so enraged after Antony's speech that they went out and killed an innocent man because he had the same name as one of the
Antony goes into detail about all the good that caesar did for people and how julius wasn’t ambitious and actually denied the crown and the power multiple times. In the text it says julius refused the crown 3 times “You all did see that on the Lupercal I thrice presented him a kingly crown, which he did thrice refuse”. This proves to people that caesar didn’t want all that power thus proves that caesar wasn’t ambitious, julius just wanted to help the people out and be a good
He tries to ally himself with the people labeling them as friends and fellow Romans. Starting out on a sincere note that will earn him respect from the crowd. Following this, Antony urges the crowd to join him in mourning Caesar, and eventually, he is overcome with distress. After regaining his composure he goes on to tell them that Caesar had been silenced, and he expresses dissatisfaction that the crowd wasn’t mourning with him. He puts the idea of rebellion in the minds of his listeners, but he urges them not to act on it.
In the novel, Julius Caesar was a well known public figure in Rome. Brutus is Caesar`s friend but he doesn’t want Caesar to have all the power so he kills him. He speaks at the funeral after to tell why Caesar had to die. Antony is also a friend of Caesar and speaks at his funeral. After comparing Brutus and Antony's speeches, Antony is more persuasive to the crowd.
Marc Antony’s use of ethos and irony help convince the people of Rome to see that Brutus was indeed not an honorable man. After Brutus’s speech, Marc Antony faces the crowd and delivers his thoughts on Caesar and the conspirators and states,”Good friends, sweet friends, let me not
The Consequences of Honor Being an honorable person requires one to follow a code of ethics for the greater good, even at the cost of his own life. If one breaks his code of ethics, he believes that living with the shame of breaking it for the rest of his life would be a “fate worse than death”. These selfless individuals care more about the needs of others than their own personal desires. However, there are people who take advantage of one’s honorable nature and use it for their own gain. This concern of acting honorably is shown in Brutus, the main character in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.
Antony wants to remind the Romans that he is credible for speaking of Caesar “that love my friend, and that they know full well, that gave me public leave to speak of him” (III.ii.215-216) Antony uses ethos after telling the Romans everything to convince them in being against that conspirators’ that he can speak of Caesar because he was a close friend of Caesar. Antony convinces the Romans to retribute the conspirators’ for what they have done “In every wound of Caesar that should move the stones of Rome to rise and mutiny” (III.ii.225-226) Antony wants revenge and is convincing the Romans to riot by using pathos. Antony wants the Romans to feel sorry about Caesar’s death “here was a Caesar! When comes such another?”
His story of Caesar’s death riles up the crowd, but not enough to satisfy his desire for chaos. Antony furthers the crowd's emotions by comparing the crowd’s current actions to what Brutus’s would be in the same
In Antony’s speech to the people, he speaks about Caesar over his dead body. His words make the commoners feel something, as opposed to Brutus,
In the play, Antony displays that loyalty to one man can easily turn into greed when a person feels like they have power through manipulation. Antony as a character is run by a single cause, which is loyalty to Julius Caesar. An example of this is when he gave his soliloquy about Caesar’s death and the men that killed him. His words were self-controlled until the conspirators left, and when they did, he shouted: “Shall in these confines with a monarch’s voice / Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war, / That this foul deed shall smell above the earth / With carrion men, groaning for war.”
He does not really agree that Brutus is honorable, but is making fun of him. He shows passion by using thought and emotions while asking the citizens questions, this causes them to gain respect and trust Antony over Brutus. Marc Antony makes a remarkable personality change as a character, from a “party guy” to an extremely clever man by using reverse psychology in order to persuade listeners. Antony utilizes Brutus’s own words against him to show the truth about the conspirators and their intentions of killing Caesar. Shakespeare shows this when he writes
After bringing out Caesar 's Dead body. Describing what a honorable man his was. And showing them how brutal his killing was. In act three the people are angered and overwhelmed the people kill an innocent man simply because he had the same name as one of the conspirators cinna . the complete chaos ensures rhom may not look seem like a positive reaction to antony 's speech but it is in fact what he wants which is shown through soliloquy through the lack of almost no reaction to brutus logical and ineffective speech it is obvious that antony 's speech is more effective over the people of rome as speeches as a whole this shows that emotional appeal causes a much bigger reaction than logic and reason.
Antony’s speech is effective because of repetition, personification, and apostrophe. Repetition is used frequently in his speech, especially during the end. “Brutus says he was ambitious” (Ⅲ, ii), “Brutus is an honorable man” (Ⅲ, ii). The purpose behind this is Antony is
Slay! Let not a traitor live!” (3.2.214). The citizens support Antony’s loyalty to Caesar and no longer like Brutus and the conspirators for being disloyal to Caesar. Mark Anthony’s true loyalty to Caesar is shown through his emotional response and actions.
There are two reasons why Antony gave this speech. The first was to get back at Brutus for murdering his beloved friend, and making him pay for it. The main reason Antony gave this speech is because he had a greed for power. He thought that if he could get all the plebeians on his side, that they would attack the conspirators and trust Antony, therefore making it easy to take on the spot for power. “Our course will seem too bloody, Caius Cassius, To cut the head off and then hack the limbs, Like wrath in death and envy afterwards, For Antony is but a limb of Caesar.
antony wanted to Explain to the people of rome that he knew ceaser more that everyone ever could and because of that When someone else says a lie about Caesar he can stand up for him because of the truth they had for each other. because they were such best friends antony wanted to protect his friend even if he is dead. In Anthonys speech he showed a lot of emotions. the way I knew this was when he stated “ My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar, and I must pause till it comes back to me .And Brayden is a speech he is letting the audience see his emotions .
