Majority of the war was fought in the south, which means the north wasn’t as damaged as the south. Cotton started to be shipped throughout the world. “While the war was going on, the north had a blockade on the south”; which made it extremely had for the south. They was not able to get much cotton through during this time. The south lost money, because other countries couldn’t buy cotton the south due to the civil war, so they eventually started to buy from other countries. The major result of the civil war was reconstruction, which occurred for a few years and it still remains today. As described on digitalhistory.edu, reconstruction around this time was “the role of the federal government in protecting citizens’ rights and the possibility of economic and racial justice”, but it has not been solved just yet. A known fact that has been commonly by passed is that the first reconstruction plan was rejected. After that happened, the government worked to make a plan that focused on making equal rights. This plan was especially in favor of the African American
The most direct effect was had by the strangling effect of the Northern Anaconda Plan as it blockaded Southern ports, keeping cotton shipments in and line runners out. Further, the intended major partners in this effort, Britain and France, had recently opened up major cotton producing regions in their respective empires, meaning Southern cotton was less useful. The global market glut also made it less valuable, so hard currency was more difficult to get. And, as the war progressed, there were fewer white men to oversee the slaves efforts in the fields and more and more of them were abandoning the work
The booming production of cotton in the south during the 19th century was a vast money maker and supplied for the Southern economy, however, it also caused many set backs. Cotton fueled the economy of the Southern states and arguably the economy of the Northern states as well, and also played a major role in the global economy of that time. Cotton indeed brought great wealth to the Southern states, but only the plantation owners benefitted from this wealth. The rest of the population was left poor, uneducated, and illiterate. Despite the wealth and power that cotton brought to the south, it also brought slavery and thus the Civil War which ultimately left the South weak and powerless.
They had the idea of “forty acres and a mule”, which gave new freed slave families forty acres of land and a mule so they had property under their name, but their biggest success was education, creating public school systems for all children. The Freedmen’s Bureau’s lasting impact on Reconstruction was the educational rights to blacks. Presidential Reconstruction: The Lincoln plan and Johnson plan dealt with how to readmit Confederate states that seceded from the Union. Lincoln’s plan called for ten percent of a southern states population to vote loyalty to the Union to be readmitted. Johnson adopted some of the same ideas as Lincoln, but when he was president, Radical Republicans in Congress wanted to pass the Wade-Davis Bill, saying fifty percent of a southern states population had to vote loyalty to the Union before being readmitted.
Introduction The Civil War began with the Battle of Fort Sumter in 1861. The battle lasted two days from April 12 to April 13 and resulted in Confederate forces capturing Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. However, as we all know, the Confederacy would go on to lose the war and the Union would be the victor. After the Civil War there arose speculation that the Confederacy could have one the Civil War.
During the 1800s the country was torn into two over whether to allow slavery to be legal or not and the North wanted to keep the country as one that did not allow slavery. So Finally, In the year 1860 the Civil war between the North and the South broke out. the civil war first broke out when the Confederate South attacked the North at Fort Sumter. Then in 1865 the confederate south finally had no choice but to surrender to the North ending the Civil War with the North on top. However, the Civil war was not an easy battle to win for the north, and many causalities occurred.
A economic difference was created, the south supplied the materials, and the North manufactured goods. This helped with the mindset that the 2 parts of America were separated. On document 2, There are multiple pie charts. Looking at chart 3 there is a large margin of workers in the North to workers in the south, only 8% of industrial workers were in the South. But looking at chart 6, all of the cotton bales came from the South only.
“A house divided against itself cannot stand” -Abraham Lincoln. President Lincoln was utterly correct when he stated this, the Civil War brought a great amount of tension amongst the states. In the northern states the war began as fight against the succession of the Confederate states from the Union. While in the south fought against the threat to their everyday lives, which one major part was slavery. Throughout the Civil War over 620,000 soldiers lives were lost and among those deaths 40,000 of them were the lives of African-American soldiers.
In most cases soldiers were buried where they were killed. In a percentage of today's population thats about 6 million lives. The civil war took up about 4 ½ years. During those years many unwanted things happened, such as Americans fighting Americans that caused great trouble throughout the country.
Moreover, the Civil War was the bloodiest and deadliest war in American history, culminating with a Union Victory. After the Civil War ended, it had large impacts on the country such as black codes, the emergence of the Ku Klux Klan, and medical advancements. To begin, the Black
The South was able to produce 7/8 of the worlds cotton supply. The South became more dependent on the planted field system and it’s full of force part, slavery. Notably, at that moment, the North was flourishing industrially. The North depended on factories and others
Photography during the Civil War The American Civil War lasted from 1861 to 1865. The war happened because eleven southern states seceded from the union to form the Confederate States of America. They did this to avoid the abolishment of slavery. The war was brutal and costed sixty two hundred thousand lives, that is more than any other American war ever. It took the lives of two percent of the entire population at the time.
The American civil war led to the reunion of the South and the North. But, its consequences led the Republicans to take the lead of reconstructing what the war had destroyed especially in the South because it contained larger numbers of newly freed slaves. Just after the civil war, America entered into what was called as the reconstruction era. Reconstruction refers to when “the federal government established the terms on which rebellious Southern states would be integrated back into the Union” (Watts 246). As a further matter, it also meant “the process of helping the 4 million freed slaves after the civil war [to] make the transition to freedom” (DeFord and Schwarz 96).
The Civil War The Civil War was the deadliest war in American history with over 600000 American deaths reported. This war was fought to keep the Confederate States from leaving the Union. The Union won because they had a telegraph system and had more resources. The effect of the Union victory has had a large impact on society.
One of the several factors that helped cause the Civil War was the economy at the time. While the economy wasn’t in bad shape, the North and South were different and had very different views and ideas about their futures. The Northern area couldn 't have huge farms like the South. However, they were very diverse in the items they wanted to produce.
