For my networking assignment I chose a professional in my field whom I know very well. The professional is my previous athletic trainer, who is the reason I wish to pursue this line of work. Her name is Jaime Aji, she has her Masters of Science in Athletic Training as well as Athletic Trainer Certified (ATC). Jaime has been working as the Athletic Trainer at Nutley High School for the past eight years. Before asking some general questions about Mrs. Aji’s job, I thought it would be best to start off with the pros and cons of the career field. When answering what the pros were Aji listed: most of the summer off, the relationship that is built with the athletes, working with great coaches, and getting paid to watch sporting events. The pros seemed to be the exact pros I thought of when thinking about the career. For the cons she listed: all year trainers have no summer off, hours can be terrible, some coaches do not show respect, and some parents and coaches do not understand exactly what she does. Overall I feel that the pros outweigh the cons, because every up comes with downs. I found it extremely interesting and beneficial to be able to talk someone that has the career that you wish to have down the road. Although, I knew my professional, I had never talked to her really about all of these aspects of the job and I feel I most definitely have more perspective for what the future holds. Since I knew my person, there was not any awkward, stranger conversation, however, I did reach out as if I was talking to a professional I did not know, as opposed to someone I see as a mentor. Training young girls to women athletics to increase their skill level of the game. Motivational approach comes in play with this organization from when I use to basketball. Now that I’m older and coaching basketball, my knowledge of the sport is very useful. Young girls in my town walk up to me everyday telling me how they use to watch me and want to be able to play like I did. With me already coaching and having the training fitness business bring more ambition to these young ladies, motivating them into taking their game up a notch.
My career goal in the exercise science and wellness field would be becoming an athletic trainer. I enjoy playing and watching sports and have some knowledge about certain things that needs to be done when an injury occurs to an athlete. In ten years, I would expect to see myself working as an athletic trainer at Penn State University. My result of the Kiersey Temperament Sorter does support my career goal because the result showed my personality type is that of an artisan. An artisan has natural ability to excel at jobs that require hands on operations such as an athletic trainer.

Most of the time, they are the first source when a player gets hurt or injured. Without trainers there would be a lot of untreated injuries, and less athletes, but there is a certain level of education and skill required for this job. First and foremost, one should at least have some type of interest for athletic training. This really goes for any job or career, if there is no appeal to a job, then there also won’t be any full commitment. With that being said, trainers should consider if this is the career they will stay devoted to.
In today’s scientific world there is a relatively new topic called sports medicine. According to the American College of Sports Medicine, “Sports Medicine is the field of medicine concerned with injuries sustained in athletic endeavors, including their prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.” Sports medicine is a helpful scientific field that allows medical personnel become more familiar with areas within the sports world and medical world. There are many different areas and job careers that someone can have from sports medicine. Some of the main topics that are focused on within sports medicine are physical therapy, occupational therapy, sports medicine physician and athletic training.

As a student, I always find myself stressed about things like homework, tests, due dates, grades, rent, and all other sorts of college-related problems. When I start to feel overwhelmed by all of the noise of being a young college student, I turn to the one thing that gives me the greatest sense of purpose and inner piece; weightlifting. For me, a weightlifting session is a form of meditation, a time when I can be by myself and truly find inner peace. There is no better feeling to me when I enter a gym with a planned and detailed workout in mind. The feeling of anticipation and readiness to vent out my stress gives me the motivation to hit a workout hard.
Besides a coach an athletic trainer is the right hand man to an athlete. As an athletic trainer there are many tasks that keep us going. One is the athletes themselves and all of the requests they come in and demand. From recovering from an injury to preventing a life long injury from reoccurring trainers are always on the move. Prioritizing, viewing a wide variety of injuries, and differing work fields are just a few of the benefits that you get when you are a trainer.
