These activities were considered morally wrong, but it was even worse for a woman to be doing it. Ultimately, Bishop’s wild lifestyle is what sentenced her to death. However, a 1950’s America would not have been so harsh to her. In fact, she would have thrived.

In addition, both plots offer escapes from the lower class; however, only Lola chooses to take it. These two texts are also common because of the attributes of the protagonists in relation to stereotypical gender roles. In both sources, Antoinette and Gigi, are defensive about their own actions as they feel as they are being judged by others and they are strong yet nurturing as they both have sickly mothers and younger girls to look after and provide for. Marie and Lola play the submissive and irrational roles as they are presented as naive and learning from their own mistakes and have to suffer the punishment from Antoinette and Gigi. Since Marie and Lola develop most throughout their respective texts, it is evident that they both fail to learn from the wise words and poor decisions of their elders.

Some of the worst forms of malice come from love. Abigail Williams from The Crucible by Arthur Miller is a great example of this. Abigail is a young girl who was caught practicing witchcraft in order to make John only love her. In the puritan times this would mean death. So, to combat this she calls multiple townspeople witches, saying she had seen them with the devil.

On page 92, Charlotte heard someone say, “There’s seven that’s put down their mark. But there’s others inclined.” This relates to the theme because at one point on page 92 again she hears someone say, “And I don’t like that girl spying.” Charlotte is terrified because she thinks the men are talking about a round robin, which can be held against Captain Jaggery. She then becomes brave and goes to Captain Jaggery and tells him all of what she heard.

Indeed, we see how as the narrator devotes an increasing amount of time with Charlotte, he becomes detached from his surroundings: he ignores his friends’ promptings and eventually progresses to a point where he is unaware of both time and location, that only today in introspection can he “recall that [they] were in [his] room” the day Maurice returns (197). Towards the end, the narrator describes how his clothes and Charlottes’ becomes “indistinguishable”, being “thrown over every chair” in the study room (191). Isolated and devoting so much time in this “cocoon” of the relationship, the narrator seems to lose part of his rational and orderly self and becomes more similar to the disorganized and anti-social Charlotte. The conflict was between the narrator and herself. She knew the girl was not good for her but she did not care and wanted her anyways. She could deal with all of her annoying qualities because she loved the way she always looked. The other conflict I saw was Charlotte cheated on both the narrator and the boyfriend, Maurice.

The novel by Kristin Hannah, The Nightingale, was truly a remarkable and unbeatable story depicting two women who have taken extremely opposite stands in regards to Nazis occupation in France. Throughout the storyline, Hannah was able to weave the ink on a page into wondrous and thrilling narrations from these two sisters. Indeed, one almost feels as if they were completely submerged in the mind’s of these dynamic characters. In a way, Vianne and Isabelle can be compared to the actions of the natural elements of fire and water. One goes with the flow, not really pushing against the current; while the other blazes against everything in its path, not stopping for anything, or anyone.

The play ensues with Loureen raising her voice to her beloved abusive husband, when she challenges his authority he vanishes. This is where the plots play takes flight as Loureen is left awestruck by his disappearance. She is left confused on the way forward; she does not know how to carry on with life without her husband while feelings of despair and resentment reside within her. She questions whether she is murderer or victim and is left puzzled while trying to piece together the fragments of her life now that she is rid of the monster and freed from his gripping claws. We see the typical symptoms of battered woman syndrome, being displayed by Loureen, as she goes back and forth between memories of her husband and trying to figure her way

There are many other times that the reader will find an act of responsibility that Jeannette had but those were just a few that stood out in the novel. With her family being the way it was, there were two things that could have happened to Jeannette, she could have turned out like her parents or turned her life of poverty into a life of wealth. Jeannette is an inspiring author and also a motivational speaker with a story that needed to be told that wasn’t just told, but printed to hundreds of people that needed to hear her story

In times in hysteria and crisis, people will do all they can do to redirect blame from themselves. This is exemplified in The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, and “Half Hanged Mary”, by Margaret Atwood. The Crucible is a story about a Puritan village that experiences a major crisis in which people, predominantly women, are believed to be witches. This causes a series of events in which people are hanged, simply for being alive. Half Hanged Mary is a poem about a woman who is hanged for being a witch, but does not die.

When encountered with a woman charged with adultery, Jesus proclaimed, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her” (John 8:7). As no man is truly without sin, humans cannot justly punish them for sins without holy guidance. When I go back to the first confrontation mentioned in the alley with the tenements, there is a discussion between Isabel and March that is an example of this immorality. This discussion is about Isabel who proposes to basil that he should ask Fulkerson if it was possible for Basil to make use of this experience of the tenements for Every Other Week (Howells 66). Kohler writes that even though Isabel gives a lot of advice to March, her morals are not as good as she pretends them to be (Kohler 206).
