Banned Books Do you enjoy reading books? Weather your answer is yes or no, books are an important part of your life. Most students in schools today, learn better if they read over the information in a book. Everyone learns in a different way and not all people learn just by reading the information, so banning books wouldn't affect those people as much, but what happens to the people who need books to learn? Books are slowly becoming less needed due to the use of the modern technology. But this shouldn't be a reason for banning books. People still read books today believe it or not, and they actually enjoy reading them. So all banning books really do is hurt the people that actually enjoy reading them. Daphne Muse in the article “Banned Book Week September 22-29, 2001” states that “the AlA’s office for intellectual freedom recorded more than 6000 book challenges since 1990”( “Banned Book Week September 22-29, 2001”) .Writers today are given basically a rule book for writing books. There are so many restrictions on books that even the littlest thing could get the book banned. Why would the US ban books that so many kids have read and loved for years? You can choose to read a book or not to read a book. If a book is offensive to you then don't read it. There are simple solutions to this problem rather than banning the books. Most books are banned because a group of people find it offensive, but why ban a book if only a small group of people don't agree with what it says, that doesn't mean that everyone hates the book. Some books that are banned are banned for ridiculous reasons. In the article “Exploring Censorship” Roberta Linder states that “the book Baseball Saved us by Ken Mochizuki, was banned for objectionable language/use of the word Jap” ( Exploring Censorship”). Banning books for small reasons like these, only make the US seem like they are just trying to get rid of books all
Book banning is something that has happened for a long time that dates back to the book burnings. Banning books is something that is unnecessary, controlling the way kids think, and an almost tyrannical way of doing things. Book banning is not holding real concern for kids and does not encompass what actually is unsuitable for students, but encompasses the ideologies of the people who have the power to ban books. People who have such power do not base it off legitimate concerns but base it on their own personal religion and opinions.
One more reason I believe banning books are wrong is because, you get more choices. Librarians say that they want kids to have as many reading choices as possible, but by them banning books they can have as many options to pick what they interested in. However, if kids get interested in a series and it is banned in their school library because it is more “mature” that gives the limited options. Jaquan was in the library trying to choose a book he was interested in but he couldn 't because the book he was looking for was banned. Some people say that racial slurs are why they ban some books, but most kids are gonna learn about racial slurs in their social studies class anyway.
A poll revealed that seventy-five percent of Americans oppose banning books. Americans are especially concerned about the banning of classic novels and children's books. More than ninety percent oppose these bans. (Church and State, 2022). According to the American Library Association, nationwide there have been 681 instances of individual books having been banned, affecting 1,651 different book titles between January first and August thirty-first (Church and State, 2022).
There is at least 300 books banned a year for foul language, but don’t you think that an invasion of the authors freedom of press and an invasion of children 's first amendment as well? So I think that books should not be banned. I have three main idea the first on is that the books can be about history and they have some language back then that was fine but is not fine today. The second reason is that libraries should be able to hold all types of books but have an age restricted area. The last reason is that it will get rid of children’s first amendment, and the authors first right as well.
Books can create portals to different life experiences and encourage reading. A few schools and libraries have challenged the educational value of some books, however, therefore leading them to eventually be prohibited in a particular place. Each reason may be different depending on the book and the location of the exclusions. Books are icons of literature and their value should outshine the occasionally offensive topic. Be that as it may, there are multiple reasons why books should be taught and included in a curriculum.
For as long as writers have written books, people have been wanting to ban them. Before the printing press, only a few handwritten copies of each book existed. If leaders deemed a book ‘inappropriate’ or ‘undesirable’, they burned the few copies that existed, ensuring people would no longer read the knowledge
The First Amendment states, “…abridging the freedom of speech or of press…” When a book is banned, it is denying the freedom of an author to express him or herself and is denying a person the right to access that book. Although banning books is the freedom to express an opinion against the book, it would hurt the author that wrote the book and make them feel inferior. Taken from I Am Very Real written by Kurt Vonnegut, “You have insulted me, and I am a good citizen, and I am very real.” In this, Kurt Vonnegut is showing how when one of his books was banned, how offended and hurt he was by that one action. The people banning the

There are countless reasons that everybody should know why books are being banned all over the world! One of the reasons is that parents do not want their children to be exposed to inappropriate topics. Moreover, some books discusses topics that people object to like dark arts and homosexuality. If kids are not exposed to this material than they might not truly understand big pieces of history. If books were banned we would have less options to read and our education wouldn 't be as strong. Every child deserves a proper education. Banned books are depriving students of a well rounded, culturally aware, literary education because of the culture that is discarded, the history that is being withheld, and the education that young people could get through these banned books. The point of history is to learn from it and learn from others mistakes, but how can we do that if we are not allowed to learn it. As teachers shouldn’t you be teaching us how to make judgment calls like understanding that Mark Twain was a racist, but a man of his time and that doesn’t change him being an amazing writer. We cannot learn things such as that if we cannot even read most of Mark Twain’s books.
