Barton's Participatory Leadership

SPC Kinnevan achieved the XVIII Airborne Corps NCOA Basic Leader Course graduation requirements with a 95.53% grade point average. He successfully passed the APFT evaluation with a score of 258. He was able to achieve a superior rating by leading his squad and executing all commands, scoring a 100% on his squad drill and PRT evaluations. He demonstrated enthusiasm and an honest desire to learn. He was a catalyst for most of the classroom discussions and always had an intelligent and pertinent answers for all questions.

Hi Erick, This servant leader is about the nicest inspired motivation, and I agree that one should never expect payment for doing a good job. The rewards are being able to help others and in return is job satisfaction. I tell myself this every day when I walk into my unit. The servant leader ultimately creates a caring world, and it showed by inspiring you to pursue a degree.

According to King’s College, leadership skills can be developed and learned by all. This may not, however, make an effective leader. An effective leader demands respect, is well liked by the people he is leading, and has a vision or purpose for his group. An effective leader demands respect.

While watching the movie Remember the Titans, one cannot help but notice many different leadership styles. There are examples of servant leadership and non-examples of servant leadership. Some of the different coach's techniques were effective, yet others were ineffective. This paper will take a close look at the assorted styles of leadership found throughout the film. It will also shed some light on what styles worked and which could have been more effective.

When I think of leadership, I think of it as a skill that not everyone can develop. For me, it took numerous times of being a follower or a leader, before developing this skill and form the type of leader that I wanted to become. The particular leadership experience that I’m most proud of would have to be leading my high school wrestling team. I started off the season by enthusiastically creating an atmosphere that new members of the team would feel welcomed and strengthened the bonds I had with veteran members.

Being a great leader is not dependent on what you have accomplished yourself, it is shown by how you have impacted others' lives. I have come through a never-ending process of education, self-study, and social interactions to become a true leader figure. Being academically successful has been a big priority of mine. I have proved my academic dedication through my 4.0 GPA which is the first step to complete to grow as a bigger leader in the National Honors Society. My whole life, I have challenged myself by taking more advanced classes such as AP courses because I thought being intelligent is one of the keys to helping me become a bigger leader.

Being a leader involves many different characteristics. A leader must set the example for all others in the group, because if they are to show up late to practice, there isn’t a reason that any of the other members should not do the same. A leader must take risks for the benefit of the group as well as make sacrifices for it. Becoming the leader of the group requires for them to be the most dedicated. They must work harder and not be afraid to lead the group.

Servant Leadership during Natural Disasters Servant leadership is a leader who displays ethical and caring behaviors. These leaders seek to enhance the growth of others while improving quality of life. The two main constructs of this leadership are ethical behavior and concern for subordinates. The characteristics embodied in this are stewardship, foresight, conceptualization, persuasion, building community, listening, empathy, awareness, commitment to growth of people and healing.

“If you want to become a great leader, you need to prepare yourself to become a great leader, and the best way to do that is to study great leaders.” (Schembechler 7). Being a leader means defining and exhibiting moral and ethical courage and setting an example for everyone within any given group. Being a leader helps you teach leadership skills to your family, friends, and employees who will then help do the "heavy lifting" of moving the masses from where it is today to where it needs to be in the future. In today's day in age, people will believe that great leaders are born to lead.

Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton was an explorer, he led three expeditions to the Antarctic. He was born in Ireland and moved to London when he was ten years old. Shackleton's first began exploring the polar regions as a third officers under Captain Robert Falcon Scott's Discovery Expedition, During his second expedition he and three others set a record Farthest South latitude at 88°S, only 180 km from the South Pole. Also, he over saw members of his team climb Mount Erebus, an active Antarctic volcano. Due to these achievements, Shackleton was knighted by King Edward VII on his return home.

Watching the "How Great Leaders Inspire Action" was very interesting to me because it all made sense that there are a difference in Leaders and People who Lead as Simon Sinek stated in the video. I agree that it is true that "People don't but what you do, the buy why you do it". Reason being as stated in the video they are many companies out there that can sell what you have but as humans we automatically know there intentions are for profits. Our society as a whole has expanded on what they believe in and definetly use the freedom of speech belief in a way that many or all have the same interest. His examples of Dr. Martin Luther King was very true as he describe his speech to be a success, because Dr. King lead people on what he believed and people followed him cause they believe in the movement for themselves he was just the leader for a good cause of others.

One of the most important characteristics of a good leader is that they must be actually prepared to lead under any circumstance. This sounds like something that should go without saying, but it is surprising just how many people who are in a leadership role are not prepared to take an active role in leading their team. To be a successful leader I also agree that one needs to have certain characteristic and skills. A leader needs to be able to simple lead, as you have stated. They need to direct and guide people to fulfill shared goals. Communication is also another huge skill. A leader needs to be able to clearly communicate, build relationships, motivate others, inspire others, and be a role model to create a positive work environment and culture that will accept change and innovation in the company.
