The fundamental and arguably the most important theme in the Batman trilogy is Fear. Fear is instilled in everyone’s hearts and this is what drives the criminals and villains such as the Joker, Scarecrow and Bain to use their force to create unrest and chaos in the city of Gotham. Raz Al Ghul tells Bruce, “In order to manipulate the fear in others, you must first master your own”. Bruce had this fear of bats and that moment in the cave has tormented his whole life (image 1). He decides to turn his own greatest phobia and transform it into the symbol he will become to strike terror and fear into the hearts and minds of his enemies: A bat. “You must journey inwards, to what you really fear, it’s inside you”, the words of Ra’s al Ghul. Fear is the motivation of Batman; he himself strives and is inspired by it. The theme fear is evident throughout the batman trilogy but especially in the first movie, Batman Begins. The story begins when Bruce falls down the well and is swarmed by bats and he immediately starts to fear. On the night Bruce’s parents died, Bruce dies with …show more content…
He pays a price as he tries to stop the chaos in Gotham by confronting Bain and injuring his back ineptly. Bruce is placed in a well in a Subterranean prison located somewhere in the East. This well image was also shown in the beginning of Batman Begins where Bruce faced on of his most fearful encounters, the presence of bats. The well reveals an alluring circle above the prison that shows the clear, blue sky. In order to roam free the prisoners must make despairing leaps for freedom, which often results in injury or even death. Bruce Wayne’s countless attempts to roam free of the prison is related to the scene early in Batman Begins his father comes down by a rope and lifts him back up. This traumatizing fear of that cave with the bats has been with Bruce his whole life and he is constantly reminded of it. Towards the end of the first movie Bruce is seen patching the well with wood and this almost symbolizes that he has patched over his trauma but he hasn’t really confronted it. Instead of facing his fears he chose to delay them and this has ultimately changed his whole life. In order to escape the prison Bruce needs to confront his fears and take a leap of Faith. In that scene when he is seen getting ready to take his final jump bats fly out of the wall and this is the key as he embraces the bats and he finally is ready to
They were partners in crime. Their friendship is represented with the superheroes. Robin is always there to support Batman in life or death situation. Batman holds down a Robin when he is folding down. Batman and Robin treats each other like brothers.
Bruce Wayne exemplifies these qualities in the novel, as he confronts the criminal underworld of Gotham City while also struggling with his own identity
In Liverpool, he free himself from three pairs of handcuffs, unlocked his cell door, and the doors of all the other cells in a local prison. In Washington, D.C., he escaped from Murderers ' Row where he was able to open the doors of eight other cells and shuffle the prisoners around, so that each was found in a different cell. In Boston City Prison, Houdini managed to escape the handcuffs and his cell as well as dig the prison wall and reach his phone at about half a mile away, where he phoned the prison Superintendent, all in 20
Bruce Wayne, Batman’s civilian name, comes from a well known family and is respected like Beowulf because of his father. In Beowulf, Grendel is the outcast, the person or figure who everybody fears and lives by him/herself. The Dark Knight also has an outcast but in their story the outcast is a human(the Joker) who is willing to kill as many people as it takes to find out Batman’s true identity. Whenever Batman defeats the Joker, he returns back to where he came from and accepts no reward, like how Beowulf defeats Grendel and the Dragon and returns back to his kingdom with his men and keeps no
Keanu Reeves can be compared to Batman because they both help others because they have experienced the same events. Batman fights crime for Gotham because his parents were killed by a criminal. While Keanu donates his money to cancer research because his sister has battled leukemia for over ten years. Bruce Wayne uses Batman to hide who he is and that he is actually the one who is saving Gotham. Similarly, Keanu never attaches his name to any donations he makes to the organizations to keep from being the attention seeker.
Both of these heroes overcome the impossible and work to make the world a better place. Batman is a superhero because he fights crime and makes the world a better place. As a child, he lost his parents and then grew into the superhero he is today. Even though Batman does not
However, the most intriguing topic concerning Batman’s mental stability was the evaluation of Batman’s love life. Batman has fallen in love but he lives a life of mystery and interacts with a false identity. To keep Gotham citizens unaware that Batman is Bruce Wayne, Bruce wears a bat-suit which is a dark outfit that includes a night bat-like mask while fighting crime. To further conceal his identity from the world, Bruce gave his real name an alter-ego that has the personality of a wealthy playboy while he acts out his true identity as Batman. Thus, Batman is unable to maintain a romantic relationship with anyone due to intimacy and his alter-ego, regardless if Batman wants a love life or not.
Batman also wears black because so no can see him plus he wants to dress like bat. Superman different from Batman because Superman can shoot lasers from his eyes and breaths out ice. Superman also wears blue and red and fights in Metropolis city.
Batman has not got many weaknesses maybe just misfortune. His allies often turns against him. That is why he is so thankful for Catwoman and she is the person he relies on the most. However Catwoman still misses some stability and she loves to rely on herself. Maybe she still need some time to understand what does true love mean.
The Nightwalker represents the dark side of human nature, and his presence serves to remind the reader that evil can lurk in unexpected places. Batman is also a symbol of darkness, as he operates at night and is often seen as a brooding figure. However, Batman's darkness is tempered by his desire for justice, whereas the Nightwalker's darkness is driven by a desire for
In the novel Lord of the flies, the beast was one of the main conflicts. Fear is that drove the existence of the beast. Fear is what drove the existence of the beast because fear gave the boys a false illusion of the island being dangerous/evil. For instance, when the boy with the mulberry mark said he saw a snake, in reality it was vines hanging from the trees. The boys are in a new environment where everything was tainted by fear.
Who is better? Who is stronger? Craig Silvey refers to batman in the novel, explaining that he has not actual superpowers, it’s just his tremendous bravery and drive to continue fighting, that makes batman a strong as he is. On page 70, is the first time Silvey refers to batman in the novel, where Charlie says, “Batman has the same vulnerabilities as the rest of us, so he has the same fears as us. That’s why he is the most courageous: because he can put those aside and fight on regardless”.
Fear is a powerful human emotion, it's built in within all humans and controls the human behaviour. It is human nature to allow fear to control people’s thoughts and behaviors, preventing them from being their true selves, as seen is “The Step Not Taken”, “A Nonsmoker with a Smoker” and Bowling for Columbine. In the essay “The Step Not Taken” Paul was followed into an office-building by a well-dressed young man carrying a briefcase. Shortly after, the young man burst into tears, Paul stepped out of the elevator very confused as to why the young man was crying.
“Movies are like an expensive form of therapy for me”(Burton). Tim Burton, a very mysterious and dark director, had produced many unsettling but fantastic movies. Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are two very well produced movies from him, which feature common themes shown with appropriate cinematic elements. Tim Burton uses tilt, low key lighting, and non-diegetic sounds in Edward Scissorhands and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to convey how creepiness can lead to curiosity. Tilts are generally used to show the vertical significance of something.
All his enemies constantly give Batman brutal beatings, but he always walks away from the fight (see appendix 1). He suffers no long-term effects because men must have strength; suffering is a sign of weakness, and men can never be weak—society demands that. Complementary to this, in Batman: The Killing Joke, Batgirl is shot by the Joker and is paralyzed for life (see appendix 2). The juxtaposition of Batman’s invincibility
