Entry #1 Examining the Subjects: Success or Failure? September 22, 2015
Being successful means that you are proud of what you’ve accomplished when you reflect back on your experiences and hardships that resulted in whatever situation you are in now that makes you happy and excited for the future rather than stressed and afraid. I do not believe that money equals success. I believe success is always a work in progress that will differ for everyone. Tangible rewards like wealth can be a benefit of success, but non-tangible results like changing someone’s life or creating a positive impact for the future of society or the environment benefits everyone far more at the end of the day.
To be successful you must be determined, persevering, passionate,

Phil was so dedicated to his work and company that he valued his success over his relationship with his wife and kids. We are told and inferred this when Goodman writes that Phil’s eldest son had to “research[...] his father, asking the neighbors what he was like” (8). Vicomtesse was also not a part of the upbringing of her son as McLaren says, “We never got along well because I didn’t bring him up. [...] He never call me mama” (4). Despite not being a part of either of their family’s life, Vicomtesse tries to compensate the lack by doing her best to help others while Phil takes his family for granted and replaces them with his
Running head: TITLE 1TitleLogan SnyderCollege Composition 103 08Professor D. ScrivnerOctober 27, 2016Title Many people view success and failure as a black and white subject. However, in WilliamZinsser’s article he calls for the definitions of success and failure to take an individualistic approach, a definition that is different for all people, to replace the traditional, white picket fence definition of success. Because Zinsser seems to oscillate between conflicting definitions of success and failure, his vague argument causes confusion. Zinsser first defines failure as a beginning stage of success rather than the traditional “American dream” view of failure.
Here, Lizabeth’s father is disappointed in himself for not being able to find a job for 22 years. Maybelle, his wife, tried to rationalize
The rocky relationship between Audrey and Arthur affects the family. The mother spends a lot of time trying to please and get her husbands attention, and the father is overall distant to his family (Rees
One of the reasons Sal’s mom left was because Sal’s father is such a good man. Sal is an amazing girl. She is a good student, a great friend, a loving daughter and granddaughter. But she, like her father, does not understand why her mother left. She is hurt and confused as to why her mother would do that.
Success, after all, is what most human beings are striving for in their life, whether it is a successful marriage, successful business, successful family and their success in overall happiness. Cardone showed that there is no scarcity when it comes to success, that I cannot let others success limit the boundaries of the success I want. “Success is not a lottery, bingo, a horse race or a card game that allows for only one winner” (Cardone 58). That if I want success, I need to realize that success is created and not won. It truly has no limits and I can have as much as I want.
She rebels against the family values by dressing and acting in an unusual way. One of the three men, Danny, confronts her rebellious attitude and he lets her know about his feelings towards the situation. He also lets her know that he expects her to realize her bad behavior and to take action on it. In the end, her behavior is adjusted back to normal. This shows us how the father is implementing communication as an important key so solve any conflict that may occur.
Their brotherly relationship becomes tested after the death of the narrator’s daughter, Grace. Caitlin Stone, a student at California State University Bakersfield, did a literally critique on how symbolic the death of grace was to the brothers. I agree, that the death of the narrator’s daughter, Grace, reveals a symbolic, paradoxical elements of the narrative that underlie it and serve to illuminate the tension and eventual reconciliation between
At the start, we are rushed into Philipe’s life. He sneaks into the house to avoid his mom. They always fight. After he strums the guitar he goes down to greet his mom in the kitchen where he discovers that his mom had done a lot for him throughout his life. Right then and there he comes to the realization that he needs to nurture relationships before they disappear.
There were several elements of the script that impacted me, but their father’s affair with Sheila is what stood out to me the most. We are able to know his thoughts and feelings throughout the play, and he spends the majority of his time thinking about Sheila rather than his wife and children. The parents do not see the impact they have on their children, who will grow up to reflect their parents in different ways. The father’s affair is not secret, but nobody in the family says it out loud either. The children know, as does their
This is a big step in every man’s life and because of the distance he felt with his father, he is hoping that when he becomes a father he does not lose that kind of closeness that he once had. This relates to his conflict of becoming the Pantaloon now because of the way he sees his father as a crazy old man who will tell non-stop lies as if he were to hustle his own friends at a carnival and he fears that he himself will turn out the same way. Will is in a constant battle of trying to figure out the truth in his father’s stories, but also trying to discover why his father is like this and it is taking a toll on him. With a newborn on the way for Will and Josephine, Will is trying to find closure so he can have a better understanding of how to raise their child. This is a proximal factor for Will because it involves the birth of his own son soon and also him being back home for the death of his father.
In recent stories that we covered there was a common theme of “family”. This theme was portrayed differently by the different authors. One recurring idea inside the theme of family is the failure of the father figure. A few examples of this are Babylon Revisited by Fitzgerald, The Swimmer by John Cheever, and Separation by John Updike. Although all three of these stories deal with the concept of family issues they are all different in their own respect.
The company president said to Phil's wife, "I know how much you will miss him. " Phil's wife answers, "I already do." Since Phil was seldom at home and spent the majority of his time at work, his presence was missed before he died. Goodman's cleverly worded phrases such as when Phil's "dearly beloved" eldest son asks neighbors what his father was like and the embarrassment that caused. Goodman uses these details to demonstrate what a pitiful life Phil lived, while at the same time using a slightly sarcastic tone in the quote "dearly beloved," to demonstrate that his eldest son wasn't loved or cherished by his father.
Success is found in all goals that are accomplished no matter how small or large that they are. Being successful doesn 't always mean that one must accomplish goals that are hard. To others it could be marrying the person they love. To be happy with that person for the rest of their life is a big success. Being successful at an educational standpoint would be graduating college with a degree in a future career.
How to Achieve Success The term of success appears frequently in public notice and it spurs extensive interests in public. Everybody wants to achieve success, but the fact is that not everyone can make it even though he or she has tried his or her best. Then it comes to a question - how to make it? Does it depend on opportunity or any other features?
