Being Too Good In Lord Of The Flies

It is said that most people if put in a particular situation they would not do things they would normally. In the novel Lord Of The Flies, by W.Golding, a group of young boys are stranded on an isolated island cut off from society, having no adults or figures of authority on the island, the boys become savage. Examples of such savagery would be the murders, the cruelty of Jack, and how even Ralph could succumb to it as well Ralph, the voice of civilization throughout the novel even is able to succumb to the dark desires within him, similar to Jack. When Jack has one of his pig hunts Ralph joins in as well, and becomes quite engrossed with it, I hit him, said Ralph again, and the spear stuck in a bit.

This means that in just a single decade, 10.6 million children are murdered in the United States before they are ever born. This sickening loss of life is just the latest link in an unbroken chain of human depravity stretching back to the Garden of Eden. Humans are fundamentally wicked. William Golding, author of the bestselling novel ‘Lord of the Flies’, understood this basic principle.

The school boys main focus was to survive and get rescued. While Piggy and Ralph were looking for the other boys that also fell onto the island they saw a conch. Then Piggy had suggested to Ralph that he should blow into the conch to help them call for the other boys. They selected someone to

At first, ralph makes a fire, hoping to stop a passing ship. Soon, after, all the boys group together, one of the boys, Jack tries to challenge ralph for his leadership, Jack tribe release a boulder on piggy, killing him. Jack then takes the other two boys hostage, leaving Ralph alone. During the process of jacks tribe trying to kill him. In the midst of trying to kill him, jack starts a forest fire.

Cynicism has a prominent role in the creation of Lord of the Flies by William Golding. This characteristic of the author’s writing is found in every symbolic expression this book holds; the author ended this book in such a way that the pessimism throughout the novel is enhanced and elevated. The novel, Lord of the Flies, exhibits a pessimistic ending when Ralph is close to death, when the Navy arrives shortly after Piggy’s death, and when the boys are robbed of their innocence by selfishness and poor judgement. Ralph nearly dying at the end of the novel shows the readers that although Ralph had the utmost positivism for his time on the island in the beginning, the absence of rules and regulations of civilization can change the views of many for the worse. “Viciously, with full intention, he hurled his spear at Ralph.

In William Goldings novel, Lord of the Flies, the children introduced teach the readers some valuable lessons. While the children needed to survive, we can still learn many lessons from them. The three most important lessons taught to us by the children are to not misuse our authority, to look out for our neighbors, and to know our priorities. Lord of the Flies teaches us to not misuse our authority by showing us how to be good leaders. Neither Jack nor Ralph could be considered a good leader, but neither one of them are necessarily a bad leader either.

Piggy is very intelligent, he comes up with ideas on how to help the boys survive on the island from the moment they crashed on it. Ralph starts begins to admire him for this clear focus on their rescue off the island. “ we can use this to call the others. Have a meeting. They'll come when they hear us” (Pg 16)

Control is an important recurrence in the novel, as it shows we find comfort in knowing we contain the ability to establish structure and manipulate things at our own will. Without control, we do not have a sense of stability and we become lost; we find ourselves controlling something merely for the structure that power gives us. The conch is the first form of power, as it unites all the boys during assemblies. Ralph is the first to blow the conch, and that is how all of the boys find each other. The comfort brought from the authority of being summoned, as small of an authority as it may seem, had great impact on the boys.

Innocence is only shown unless yourself or someone else tarnishes it. Those who tarnish other’s innocence still show innocence in a way. Those people are innocent to the idea that the innocence is being taken away and they are to blame. In Lord of The Flies, Jack tarnishes the boy’s innocence by exposing them to savagery. William Golding proves that without rules to live by, people will eventually become savage.

Before this, Piggy was struggling to find his usefulness because his asthma prevented him from helping with manual labor. Throughout the novel, Piggy is ignored by the other boys except when they need his incendiary tool. Piggy’s role on the island is also reasoning and being the adult, which means he ruins all the fun making him an outsider. “Finally, Piggy's role—as man's reasoning faculties and as a father—derives some of its complexity from the fact that the fire which the children foster and guard on the mountain in the hope of communicating with the adult world is lighted with his glasses” (Mannori). Piggy is the ‘adult’ that brings the children fire.

The pig-hunt degenerates into man-hunt. The savages with their paint and spears spread terror. First he tried to crush Ralph with elephant sized rocks, if he were hiding in the tall grass. When that failed, he smoked him out and set fire to the island itself. Ralph is horrified at his own plight.

A world war takes place as a group of boys get stranded on an island. As the boys try to escape the war, it follows them onto the island in the form of a never ending conflict with how to survive. As the boys become engaged in this war they lose their innocence. In the Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, loss of innocence plays a big role in the outcome of the book. Loss of innocence is ultimately what leads to the war which takes place on the once “good island” (Golding 34).

Piggy has a really hard time trying to be powerful and lead the group, but his actions and the actions of the other boys show that he can’t hold power over a group, and they show why Piggy has a hard

jack take advantage of this opportunity to control the boys convincing them that he is the only one that can fight/defeat the beast. After the death of Simon piggy was in denial. Somehow, Piggy cannot accept what has happened. So he attempts to explain, "I was an accident.

He was being treated unfairly and the boys picked on him but he endured it as much as he could. He complained about how he was being treated while holding the conch, but if the boys treated Jack the way they treated Piggy, he would have gotten physical about it. Conjointly, before Simon's murder takes place, everyone feast on the pig that Jack and his hunters killed. After they ate things started to get intense between Ralph and Jack. Fortunately, Piggy was there to stop it.
