Ben Quilty Research Paper

The common subject in Ben Quilty’s artworks reveals his insight into the destructive nature of youth masculinity, but also reflects the present day Australian male youths in society. Quilty’s series of oil painting creation “The crash” (2009) enables him to express his understanding of his own turbulent passage through his middle and late teenage years as well as his early 20s. In early stages, Quilty’s painting mainly explores the transition of manhood shown in his work “Cullen-before and after”, mortality and objects that appeal to male youths such as classic Aussie muscle cars. On June, 2013 Ethan Couch a wealthy teen was speeding and caused a crash which he ended up killing four people and injured two. It turns out that his blood-alcohol level was three times the legal limit. He could have faced twenty years behind bars but his attorneys claimed that his affluenza (a product of wealthy, privilege parents who didn’t set rules for him, and doesn’t know right or wrong) made him blameless for his actions. The judge didn’t give him a sentence but ordered for his parents to pay for treatment and got 10 years of probation. His parents agreed to pay $450,000 a year for his rehabilitation.

In 2004, Doug Levitt started a journey that would change his life forever. He traveled on Greyhound buses and met people who were struggling to get by. Richard Loving was born October 29, 1933, in Central Point, Virginia. Growing up in part of Caroline County, people of different ethnic groups openly socialized together. Loving being of Irish and English descent met his future wife, Mildred Jeter who was African American and Native American descent, when he was 17 and she only 11. About sixty-seven years later, on June 10, 1966, White was shot and murdered near Pretty Creek in Natchez, Mississippi. His murderers were three hate-filled gunmen that were incorporated with the Ku Klux Klan, which is a group of people who believe that whites are more superior than blacks. The reason they wanted to murder White was to give Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a motive to come to Natchez, White had no involvement in the Civil Rights Movement, until his devastating murder.
