Another way Beowulf can be seen as a hero is through his strength. Strength is another main characteristic that most heroes have. “The Truth is this: when the going was heavy in those waves, I was the strongest swimmer of all. “(Beowulf, 534) This quote shows that Beowulf is the strongest warrior which makes him the hero. Another quote that shows Beowulf’s strength is” The captain of evil discovered himself in a handgrip harder than anything he had ever encountered in any man on the face of the earth.” (Beowulf, 749) This quote not only shows Beowulf’s strength, but also the intimidation that Grendel has of Beowulf. Beowulf’s strength shows he is a hero.
Beowulf’s Loyalty is also a characteristic that shows he is a hero. Loyalty is a trait seen in very many heroes in other stories. “Undaunted, sitting astride his horse, the coast-guard answered, "Anyone with gumption and a sharp mind will take the measure of two things: what's said and what's done. I believe what you have told me: that you are a troop loyal to our king." (Beowulf, 286-291) In this quote Beowulf is called a

Grendel himself shows the reader that Beowulf is a fairy tale.
Throughout his long life of war and peace, Beowulf exemplifies different attributes of a hero. Three that he shows most are being charged with a quest, being tested to prove himself, and resurrection after reaching a low point. In the beginning
Beowulf actions, and mindset shows that he is an epic hero. (11.749-756), this quote shows his supernatural strength and bravery. “When the going was heavy in the high waves, I was the strongest swimmer of them all.” This quote shows that swimming for hours isn’t something just any male or female could do, it takes a lot of body strength and fatigue. (11.529-534), in these lines, “ I have heard moreover that the monster scorns in his reckless way to use weapons; therefore..
The hero in the epic poem Beowulf is the main character, Beowulf. He demonstrates heroic qualities as soon as the readers are introduced to his character. Beowulf proves himself to be courageous and brave by voluntarily fighting the “undefeatable” monster, Grendel. He is greatly admired by both the Danes and Geats for his courageous acts. Although his motivation is altered to only benefit himself with the title of the greatest warrior, his plan to save the Danes is greatly appreciated by all in the land.
The actions Beowulf takes throughout the story prove he is a hero. By willingly helping the king with an issue he could not conquer, dealing with the consequences of his actions in the form of Grendel’s mother, and sacrificing himself for the good of his kingdom,
Beowulf, is a fictional figure, he is an example of Emerson heroism. The same bravery and physical strength that make Beowulf a great warrior also make him a great epic hero, as does his willingness to die for
Beowulf shares the same traits with as many other heroes I know about. For example, Beowulf 's willpower can be compared with Henry Cavill 's Superman (Man of Steel). In Beowulf: "The Battle with the Dragon", Beowulf battled the dragon and he noticed that his weapons started to fail him and that he was weakened by his age. In spite of that, Beowulf 's willpower enabled him to continue fighting the dreadful beast. Eventually, after his ally Wiglaf provided Beowulf with some assistance, he was able to break through and deliver the killing blow to the dragon.
Beowulf has all of the characteristics of a hero. According to Joseph Campbell’s The Power of Myth, there are eight characteristics of a hero. Beowulf recognized for his strengths and power of protecting his people.
In the story Beowulf they make Beowulf out to be the hero. Defeating the monsters which was mother dragon and the last reason that he was considered a hero because after all the monsters he killed he decided to give all of the gold and supplies that he won from the battle with the monsters to all the people in herot and also he was reconized as a hero because he let God decide his Faith during the battle with the monsters.
A hero does not fight for fame and glory but for the greater good. A hero is someone who goes through adversity to help others in desperate times. A hero fights evil, and defends people. Beowulf should be considered a hero because he is a strong, brave warrior who defended his people and slayed evil monsters. Some people might consider someone who does the right thing a hero, for some it may be people who fight for their country. The characteristics of a hero might vary, but in the epic “Beowulf,” Beowulf is sought out to be the hero because of three main traits; his noble cause, code of honor, and his strength and courage. One thing that Beowulf does to make himself a hero is he uses his weaknesses as an advantage. Beowulf is not the largest man and does not have great eyesight, but he uses cunning to defeat even the most difficult enemy. Furthermore, Beowulf specifically applies to the theme of how even heroes are not perfect. Nye illustrates that a hero can use his weaknesses as advantages.
