Motown Records is one of the most successful record companies in the history of the U.S. The record company was started in the late 1950s and is still recording labels today.
Berry Gordy Jr. was born on November 28, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan. He was born into a hard-working family of ten, he was the seventh of eight brothers and sisters. Tamla Records was becoming something major when Gordy realized that there was not enough room to book everyone that wanted to record a label. Therefore the creation of Motown Records was born. Gordy started regretting taking the risk of starting Motown Records until “The Marvelettes” was rated number one on the pop charts which caused his business rate to soar. Motown was a hit! Motown was becoming one of the most known African American labeling records in America. Motown Records was known for what artists recorded in it, such as Mary Wells who recorded “My Guy”.
