Did you know that the average cost to surgically remove an intestinal blockage from a pet is $3000? Or that dogs prefer toys that look like prey? Throughout my life, I have visited many different pet companies. Sometimes they impress me and make me want to come back (Hello, Petsmart!), and other times they disappoint me with their service. Hello.

The owners of these animals need to make a decision regarding their pet's long or healthy life. Therefore, it requires considering the cost of the medicine along with the financial status regarding the medicine’s cost. If the animals have incurable conditions, logically, it would make more sense to euthanize them, considering they were going to pass away either

In other words after the surgery was done and lady was alive and well he would not mind that he spent 15,000 dollars on his cat. Even though this may be a ridiculous amount of money to some people, i believe that if someone would have the money to help their pet they would do it. One reason why i argue bilger is correct is because people spend too much money on unnecessary items for their pets, they buy expensive clothing for them and or pay for expensive places to take them. In “The Last Meow” Bilger mentions “We can take our dogs for daycare or psychotherapy and buy them $200 cashmere sweaters and leopard-skin beds.”

Noting that laws protecting peoples pets are more for the emotional comfort of humans and not necessarily for the welfare of animals can be highlighted with the treatment of stray animals. Fortunately in many modern societies throughout the world the treatment of stray animals has drastically improved due to charity efforts. Though these stray animals that are not owned by humans are animals of the same species that many humans own as pets. The difference is that these animals are not owned. Therefore no one has a strong emotion bond or direct interest in these animals unless due to special cases of compassion.

“Our love affair with our pets has gotten out of control” (Bilger 10). Burkhard Bilger is the author of the literary non-fiction piece, “The Last Meow”, that was published in The New Yorker September 8, 2003. He explains the extent people are willing to go for their animals and pay any amount of money no matter how much it may cost. According to Bilger, pet owners spend about forty seven billion dollars a year on their pets, that ranges from food all the way to surgeries.

Choosing a cat or a dog as a pet is depending on personal preference or purpose. Both animals can become a good companion in human’s life. In an essay titled “Why Cats Make Better Pets Than Dogs” Sean Curtis argues that cats are better pets than dogs because cats are low maintenance, quiet, and independent. He helps readers gain insights of a cat or a dog’s behaviors and habits, and bring awareness of their issues to a future cat or dog owner. This essay argues clearly with his points of view and successfully bring readers’ attention to dogs’ problems that a dog owner will meet and solve.

By creating a law at the federal level, it decreases the likeliness of an accident or in the case of puppy mills, the ability of breeders to take advantage of and ruin the lives of these animals. An example of this would be making children under a certain age use car seats. “Car seat use reduces the risk of death to infants (aged <1 year) by 71%; and to toddlers (aged 1–4 years) by 54% in passenger vehicles” (Motor Vehicle Safety 4). This proves how enforcing a law at the federal level can save lives. Although Puppy Mills are obviously a very different issue than children using car seats, it shows how a law can positively affect the livelihood of an individual, which in this case happens to be dogs.

Each type of domestic animal has specific needs and each owner may have specific wants for their pet. For example, when an owner decides to crop their dog’s ears, this is not a necessity for the pet’s survival, but more a want of the owner to give their dog a more “desirable” appearance.

This has to lead to the evolution, and domestication of the house pets we all love today. Humans have everything to do with the evolution of these specific species. Humans were the ones who took them out of their natural, and wild environment, and raised them to perform certain tasks. Because of this, their behavior, and physical characteristics have all adapted to their new environment, in where safety, food, shelter, and protection have all provided for them. These domestic pets now all follow through artificial selection, or intentional breeding.
