Elie is fifteen years old and his instructor Moshe the Beadle returns after a near death experience to warn him of nazis that are coming to threaten the lives of everyone in the village (I personally would’ve tried to run rather than just wait for the nazis to come). During their deportation the third day at midnight everyone in the village saw flames rising knowing it was the nazis. Everyone was petrified except Elie and his family who amazingly were calm and collected(I find it quite peculiar that they can remain calm and collected at a time like that).
