On July 4th, 1776, British colonists passed the declaration of independence in their continental congress, 5 years later, on October 17th, 1781, the British government surrendered and the colonists had officially won their freedom from the tyranny of England. This independence was a result of the distressing relationship between the colonists’ and the British government. The events leading up to the declaration tell us just how bad the relationship between the two groups was. Britain enforced many unnecessary acts and proclamations that angered the colonists’. This anger led to the Boston massacre, Boston tea party and then ultimately the fight for independence. One of the first missteps the British government made was In 1763, King George …show more content…
Angered colonists decided this was not fair and on the 16th of December 1773, dressed up as the Mohawk Indians, raided the ships and dumped all of the tea into the Boston Harbour. In the picture on the tea party from power point three, we see the colonists dressed as Mohawk Indians throwing crates of what we assume is tea and the British militia running towards the ship trying to stop the colonists. This event angered the British government and as a result, they introduced the “intolerable acts” of 1774. These acts consisted of the Boston port act (the closing of the Boston port); Massachusetts government act (colonists had less power and royal officials were put in charge); administration of justice act (allowed royal officers to be tried in other colonies when they committed crimes in Boston); and the quartering act (colonists had to take in British militia and feed them) was expanded to all colonies not just …show more content…
The Colonists did not start off wanting independence but as the years went on their relationship with the British government worsened because of all the Proclamations and Acts introduced in the colonies. This resulted in a very disappointing outcome for the British government and an amazing journey for the new Americans who now had a country to
The reason why the colonist declared independence from Great Britain was because of unfair taxes. There was other cause factor of why the colonist wanted freedom but taxes were the beginning of the American revolution. Great Britain was in debt due to the Seven-Years war. They started to impose new taxes and policy on the colonist so they can also help Britain pay off their debt. Great Britain impose different policies, the Stamp act 1765 which imposed taxes on stamps needed for official documents, Townshend Revenue act 1767 which taxes glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea, and the Tea Act 1773 which taxes tea.
They dumped about 324 chests of tea into the boston harbor, destroying all of the tea. The British government responded brutally and it later escalated to the American Revolution. Intolerable Acts: A series of laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea Party. They were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for throwing a large amount of tea into Boston harbor.
The Tea Act sparked the final revolutionary movement in Boston. A company from East India, burdened with eighteen million pounds of unsold tea. The tea was shipped directly to the colonies, and to be sold at a bargain price. The Townshend duties were still in place, however, the radical leaders in America found reason to believe that this act was a plot to buy popular support for the taxes already in force.
The Boston Tea Party was carefully and thoroughly planned as the Bostonian 's were not to do anything until December 17, 1773. On that day they were to dress as Indians, equipped themselves with either a small hatchet or a tomahawk, and paint their faces with coal. As they got to Griffin’s wharf they separated into three groups and Leonard Pitt was the commander of George Hewes’ Crew. At this point Pitt orders Hewes to retrieve the keys from the captain for the hatches and candles. Next, the commanders orders them to take the tea filled chests, split them open and throw them overboard.
the historical events that i learned was that i did in my history class was that i learned about the boston tea party. The reason why i chose the boston tea party was that i think that it played an important role in what made america in the beginning. The boston tea party was when the sons of liberty where going to make sure that the british were going to leave them alone so the poured out all the tea into the boston harbor. The colonist would try to team up with the indians to help them even out the numbers because the were out numbered by hundreds of troops. But the indians refused to help the colonist because they thought that they would be betrayed and the colonist would kill them.
The Declaration of Independence During the 1760s, the relationship between the United Kingdom American colonizers showed some serious problems. In 1775, the battle of Lexington and Concord had become the flash point for this conflict. The independent War of the United States happened. At first, most population of the colonizers supported to negotiate with the British Government.
On December 16,1773 the Boston Tea Party took place. A man by the name of Samuel Adams and the Sons of Liberty took chests of tea and threw them into the Boston Harbor. Because of this, there were consequences also known as the Intolerable Acts or Coercive Acts. The Coercive Acts are a series of four acts: the Boston Port Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, the Justice Act, and the Quartering Act.
The Boston Tea Party, an iconic event in American history, played a crucial role in fueling the revolution against British colonial rule. This audacious act of defiance showcased the determination and resolution of American colonists to fight for their rights and liberty. The origins of the Boston Tea Party can be traced back to a series of grievances and tensions between American colonists and the British Crown. The British government, seeking to alleviate the financial burden of the French and Indian War, imposed a series of taxes on the American colonies. One of the most contentious measures was the Tea Act of 1773, which granted a monopoly on tea sales to the British East India Company and eliminated colonial merchants from the tea trade,
Leading up to the Boston Massacre Who knew that a shot fired by British soldiers in the streets of Boston in 1770 would spark the American Revolution? It all started with King George III, who became king of Great Britain and Ireland in 1760. He was only 22 years old. The first war that he participated in was known as the French and Indian War. “When France’s expansion into the Ohio River valley brought repeated conflict with the claims of the British colonies, a series of battles led to the official British declaration of war in 1756.”
Because King George kept recycling Prime Ministers of different political parties and policies this proved to be politically unstable and didn’t help the colonies.
So the colonists argued that they should govern their own affairs. On July 4th, 1776, the Declaration of Independence for American colonies was established. George Washington provided the strong military leadership that the Americans needed to defeat the British. They prevailed and British forces surrendered in 1781 when they were defeated at
I chose this assignment because it was one of the favorite assignments I've ever done. Ms.Gonzales, our history teacher, asked me to pick a topic and make a movie poster as if I was a director. The point of this assignment was to learn the story of the Boston Tea Party. On this assignment, I earned a 25 over 20 which was an A-plus. I completed this assignment by planning out everything so I don't procrastinate.
The Night of the Boston Tea Party I am about to talk about my grandfather John, he was in the Boston Tea party. He blames the Loyalist because of their unfair taxes, unfair rules, and think they have the blame for the Boston Tea Party. He was the bravest Patriot I knew. So without further ado this is my grandfather's journey through the Boston Tea Party. It was December 16, 1773 John was talking about how he did not like the British taxes and laws to his wife Mary.
The British government was not looking for the best of the people. They were only thinking about what they wanted; the government was not interested in what the people wanted so they decided to make decisions on their own, which resulted in changes that form the United States today. Because of this, they were justified in rebelling and declaring independence. One reason why the colonists decided to rebel and declare independence was because of taxation.
The “point of no return” for the American Revolution to occur, the event that sparked the beginnings of the American Revolution, was The Boston Tea Party. The Boston Tea Party was one of the last biggest protests against England’s “Intolerable Acts”, as the colonists liked to call them. Neither the colonies nor did Britain really want to seperate, but the situation they were in caused them to. England was being very controlling over the colonies because they were of great economical benefit to them. The colonies were reluctant to even consider separation because all they really wanted was their rights.
