Brian From 'The Secret': A Short Story

The biggest theme in Frankenstein is secrecy. There are multiple reasons to believe this in the book, and the movie Frankenweenie. In Frankenweenie Victor is forced to show Edgar how he brought his dog back to life to be able to keep Sparky a secret. When Victor first created the monster he was so scared he just left it alone, giving away that he doesn’t want to take responsibility for it or let anyone know that he was the one who created him. Victor could have avoided Justine being hung if he would have spoken up about the monster.

Now Brian is forced to fly the plane and crashes in some lake then swims and saves himself. He may not be picked up that day or any day so it leaves brian alone to survive and live on his own. He is not prepared for anything like this and does not know how to survive in the wilderness. Which will change his life forever. I found that all in the text that he has crashed and has already been the first day of the crash.

Surviving the Wilderness Over 68% of plane crashes happen in the beginning and ending of plane landings. In Hatchet, a fictional novel written by Gary Paulsen, the protagonist, Brian, is a normal thirteen year old boy. Then his plane crashes in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. Brian’s parents had recently gotten divorced because of the secret that Brian’s mom was cheating on Brian’s dad. The wilderness is now his home that he has to survive in for the next fifty-four days.

This boy was only dreading his trip to his new private school 30,000 feet in the air before blacking out and finding himself stranded and alone in a deserted island. But within the short time span of five weeks, he’s innocence was taken from him. I am lucky to interview Ralph Bradshaw, age 12, after weeks of silence, of his deadly, horrifying experience in the stranded island he would call “Hell” itself. Many know the tale of the 47 boys mysteriously disappearing and found wild-like, but Ralph knows there was more to it. After befriending Stanley and Simon, (seen in Pg. 2) he was appointed leader by majority vote.

We had just finished reading Hatchet by Gary Paulson. A few of my classmates spoke up and talked about Brian’s tribulations throughout the book, and how much courage he had to swim to the bottom of the lake. I thought about Brian after his summer in the wilderness and how emotionally scarred he would be. I thought about how I would have felt without my family or friends. I thought about how utterly alone Brian must have felt.

An additional theme that is presented in the book is how courage can help people face fears. People see this when Brian is on a plane and his pilot has a heart attack (page 26). Brian then has to fly the plane but he is frightened to do it. Brian has never flown a plane before, so he is petrified to do it. He is very courageous to face his fear of flying a plane.

First, Brian uses good survival strategies by using trial and error. He used this strategy well. For example, he started steering the plane up and down to keep it steady. He used trial and error by doing it over and over again until he did it correctly.

And I wasn’t scared of losing fights with them, either. I’d lost most every fight I’d been in. I was afraid those monsters were going to kill me” (Alexie 64). This is similar to my case. He hopes that they don’t kill him and isn’t afraid to do whatever he has to in order to prevent that from happening.

“Turn around. Turn around. Turn the car around and get the hell out of here. Right now.”, Mort Rainey said to himself as the movie begins. If a movie oblige the lead actor to spend a lot of time onscreen talking to his self, it’s hard to do it unless you are Johnny Depp.

Have you ever felt like you just needed an escape from any situation or you house for a while or have you ever felt like you were being neglected? In the short story “The Ascent” by Ron Rash, the story follows the life of a boy named Jared. Who is in a household where both of his parents are drug users and though to their best efforts do not do the best at watching or raising their kid. Jared has make-believe time in the woods to escape home as he does he stumbles across a crash plane the cops have been looking for and inside he finds a man and woman dead.

The father’s wife had recently died, leaving him with the boy to take care of with the only mindset of keeping him alive, doing anything for their survival. This affected the father in a big way, leaving him with little hope and hardly any reason to stay alive, but the boy was “his warrant” (McCarthy 5) , his only reason for life. The boy starts out very scared and weak, always wanting to hide behind his father, knowing that one day he will die. The boy matures with every event that happens, and he maintains to have hope throughout most of them. “The man fell back instantly and lay with blood bubbling from the hole in his forehead.

This quote shows bravery because he's saying he will fight and win with his courage/bravery or he will die because it was not his fate to win. Today in modern society showing bravery is something that can be so little but mean so much to someone else. It could also mean something so big that impacts not only yourself but people around you also. Everyday a human will show an act of bravery and become brave like

Lois Simmie’s novel, “The Secret lives of Sgt. John Wilson: A Story of Love & Murder,” is a true important novel that includes many real events that had happened in the province of Saskatchewan. John Wilson came to Canada from Scotland in the year of 1912 leaving behind a wife and a family, promising he’d return in a year. In 1914 he joined the Royal North West Mounty Police. He was located in a small community in Saskatchewan where he shortly fell in love with a young woman named Jessie who he would do anything for, including murdering his wife.

Cipher in the Snow” is a short story in which Jean Mizer, the author, displays a heartbreaking story about the death of a lonely withdrawn teenager. Cliff Evans, Jean Mizer’s main character experiences being ridiculed by classmates, invisible to teachers, and mistreated at home. Then, on the way to school Cliff asks to get off the bus and collapses in the snow and dies. The Principal asks to the school’s math teacher to tell his parents and write the obituary, but he doesn’t even remember him even though he was listed as Cliff’s favorite teacher. Which makes the math teacher wonder if he didn’t die from a broken heart and that everyone was responsible in some way.

All the while, Brian is counting on rescuers showing up at any time. When a rescue plane does fly overhead, though, Brian misses it, seeing it just in time to watch it fade off into the distance. Brian 's reaction, understandably, is not pretty. He was screaming, cursing at god, crying. He was not a happy camper.
