Winston Churchill once said, “I think I can save the British Empire from anything - except the British.” Britain had a drastic role in World War II, which began in 1939 and ended in 1945. Britain’s role in the war involved victories in land, air, and sea battles as well as ending Hitler’s dictatorship, taking down borders, and reestablishing the United Nations.
Appeasement in a political context is a policy of making political or material concessions to an enemy power in order to avoid conflict. In the British perspective appeasement was their pre- World War II policy of allowing Hitler to expand German territory freely. Hitler took this policy for granted and shortly after the “policy” was signed he attacked and invaded Poland. Wiegrefe,

The cruiser tanks were intended to operate independently of the slow-moving infantry and their heavier Infantry tanks. The British doctrine at the time did not foresee the armored division having a role in its own right and was assigned the traditional cavalry role. In the Luftwaffe had to destroy Fighter Command by itself and could not count on the Wehrmacht to eliminate the RAF on the ground. The Battle of Britain, air superiority was the prerequisite for the launching of the ground campaign. In spite of being heavily outnumbered, the RAF had an excellent array of early warning radars that fed into an integrated system of command centers. Fighter Command could choose when and where to fight, a great advantage when altitude and knowing where the enemy was usually determined who won in fighter on fighter and fighter on bomber combat. ."WW2 British Tanks and Armored Cars." The British Air Force was very intelligent and had all the planes and armor they needed to succeed in the air. The British air force, also known as the Royal Air Force, went under rapid expansion following the outbreak of war against Germany in 1939. The British trained in British Commonwealth countries under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. The Royal Air Force’s plan was their strategic bombing campaign against Germany. British mainly raided at night, that way they had …show more content…
A replacement for the ineffective League of Nations, the organization was established on 24 October 1945 shortly after World War II ended, this was in order to prevent another such conflict. The United Nations didn’t just come up in one day, it actually evolved into being. During World War II, United Nations was often referred to as the allies. The United Kingdom and the United states both join in 1945. Now that the war was over, negotiation and maintaining the peace was the practical responsibility of the new U.N. Security council made up of the United States, Great Britain, Soviet Union, France, and also China. "The United Nations Is
Before the war started the Royal Canadian Air Force
Propaganda and also, public information was a frequent method used to influence the decisions of the British public,Evi: an example of this is Source A which is a government poster issued in 1915 to inform the British people of the differences between British and German airships and aircraft. This source is useful in many ways as it includes the year of poster being issued, which suggests that this is the year that the British were expecting to be attacked, as it is one year into the war. Also there are a numerous variety of planes which implies that aerial attacks were quiet common, OP: aerial attacks may have been common due to the advancements in technology, both sides experimented with this fledging new technology, EX: this made it clear that air warfare could play a powerful and significant role in war. In addition to this, the use of British planes indicates that the British will be fighting back. Within the source it states “do not touch unexploded bombs” this
The British had concealed their facilities from Axis pilots, covering factories to look like empty fields and putting up dummy tanks in empty landscapes. These tanks could be constructed out of balloons, paper, or other material, all painted to give the illusion of large numbers of land units. This was not the first time someone from either side had used dummy tanks. Dummy tanks have a history dating back to World War 1 and the introduction of tanks in modern warfare. Both sides used them to throw off the enemy’s air attacks, hoping they would waste bombs and ammunition on empty fields.
The first reason that Canada’s contribution was greater in the air than in the ground was because of the resources we gave to our alliance. The Second World War was a very technologically advanced war. There was a lot of mass-production of weapons, ammunition, vehicles, and other war material that was needed to win the battles. The war in the air took up a lot of these resources and cost a lot of money. The Canadian Air Force or the Royal Canadian Air Force/ RCAF at the beginning of the war as a small air force.
A main advantage the Allies had was the fact that they had complete air Supremacy. They had bombers, gliders and paratroopers all helping the Allies control the skies. They were used for different reasons. The gliders were used for taking over Pegasus Bridge amongst other attacks. This attack was led by Major John Howard.
Initially, tanks had been brought in as a solution to the stalemate caused by trench warfare on the western front. The first appearance on the battlefield was in 1916. The British rushed them in combat and consequently many were plagued with reliability issues. The heavily bond out terrain proved difficult to navigate and only the most mobile tanks were successful.
This was able to happen when joseph Stalin the Soviet Leader signed the German Soviet Nonaggression Pact allowing Hitler to invade Poland. Poland was taken over rather quickly and according to secret protocol Germany and the Soviet Union divided up control over Poland because of the Nonaggression Pact (“World War Two History”). The six months following the war Germany wasn’t really active resulting in the media referring to it as a “Phony War”, little did they know that Britain and Germany navies were intensely facing off at sea and unfortunately Germany’s U-boats sank 100 Britain vessels in the first four months of the war. German forces invaded Belgium and the Netherlands which was known as “Blitzkrieg” translated as lighting war this happened on May 10, 1940. Only a few days later German troops crossed The Meuse River and attacked French forces at Sedan.
This is demonstrated when Winston Churchill states that if the Allied powers had worked together to protect Czechoslovakia, then that could have prevented World War II (document 6). Churchill’s statement shows that collective security is the way to respond to aggression and that appeasement only provokes a war. The war lasted six years with many different battles between the Allies and the Axis’s. Hitler did not only invaded Poland, but from there fought his way through many other parts of the world such as Greece, France, Britain, and the Soviet Union. The quote, “It is us today.
he dam-buster raids also known as operation chastise was an attack on three German dams in Ruhr Valley by 617 Squadron, Royal Air Force. The Dam busters were a squadron formed during the Second World War. The Lancaster bombers flown by 617 Squadron were immensely modified, and the crews trained to fly at less than (30.48m) above the water, which is the height needed to drop the bombs properly. The dams in the Ruhr Valley supplied hydro-electric power and water which was used for steel making, and were therefore extremely important to Hitler in the war. 617 Squadron was led by Guy Gibson, he was allowed to select the men who he wanted to be in the attack but he only picked the men who had the necessary experience acquired for the attack.
Sometimes low level raids sneaked past the battered but still working radar stations, and the first warning the British fighter pilots had was bombs landing on their airfield. Particularly good in the low-level role was the Dornier Do 17 and its derivatives, several of their raids succeeded in achieving complete surprise and escaping any form of
Germany, Italy and Russia took advantage of the chaos in U.S and Britain and got prepared for a second war that made Britain a worst country were disaster and tragedy took place. The situation got worst, while they were trying to reestablish the country a second world war started and they were not even close to be great again. Germany invaded Poland and countries started to join the war because they were allied. Things were not getting better; catastrophe is the world that could describe Britain in those days.
Document E ‘‘The British Octopus’’ shows us how Germany viewed England. They referred to them as ‘‘Blutsauger der Welt’’, which means bloodsucker of the world. They used propaganda and showed us how England was trying to gain territory. Imperialism contributed to causing the war because nations would make accusations and they wouldn’t trust each other. Having allies with another nation wasn’t a bad thing, but it did cause distrust between nations and it also caused them to fight for an alliance.
Fighter bombs took procession and attacked British and Indian supply shacks, roads, and a very notable bridge, the Chindwin River, cutting off any idea of a sneak attack or unplanned enemy fire from the British. Their plan was to isolate each unit individually as they broke through the perimeter to capture Imphal. Soldiers carried armor and artillery parts on the back of their horses. The most significant Allied victory was Britain’s strategic ability to transport aircraft. Allies could fly in more troops, supplies, and equipment into the airstrips in Imphal before and even during the monsoon weather.
Established in 1945 after the World War II, United Nations Security Council is the most powerful organ among the six organs in United Nations with the authorized power to issue legally binding resolutions. There are a a lot of events that led to the beginning of World War II. But, a lot of the events leading to World War II were a direct result due to World War I. One event leading to World War II started with Hitler rising to power in the 1930s, as he was trying to rebuild Germany. As Germany, was crippled due to World War I and the Treaty of Versailles. Germany was crippled due to World War I and the Treaty of Versailles because Germany lost the war, had to take responsibility, and pay a large amount of money. This caused Germany to be in a turmoil.
