The caffeine found in coffee helped “scientists, intellectuals, merchants, and clerks” feel energized, “alert”, and “stimulated” at the beginning of the day and at the end of the night, allowing for more discoveries to be made and for more tasks to be accomplished. This led to coffee replacing beer as the morning drink of choice, as the general public preferred feeling energized, “alert”, and “stimulated” to feeling intoxicated and tired. One point that Juliana makes is that tone depends on the type of writing. For example, in creative and narrative writing, when an individual is writing about their experience or understanding, the tone of the essay would be more subjective. More specifically, the genre of this essay would determine the type of tone that the author establishes. In the text, “Superman and Me” by Sherman Alexie, the tone of the story is hopeful and positive.

This drink originated in the Middle East, heavily influenced by Arabian culture. Over the course of many years, coffee made its way to Europe through trade and helped Europe to come out of its drunken and alcohol induced haze that has lasted for centuries. Many times in a story a character can be viewed as more likable than the other. Even sometimes two leaders that fight against each other. The author can portray this by using tone. The tone can be easily noticed by the words and actions a character does. One example of this is Mythology by Edith Hamilton.

Form Analysis of Chapter 8 of The Poisoner’s Handbook by Deborah Blum Deborah Blum is portraying the idea that things that seem safe or even beneficial can actually be very dangerous. She supports this idea with various elements of form throughout chapter eight of The Poisoner’s Handbook. Elements of form used in chapter eight to support her idea include completion, choice of form, outside sources/ flashbacks, and active details. The completion of the chapter is used by Blum to support the idea that seemingly harmless things can be very dangerous.

As we know, nobody will die from a lack of coffee, but many people do rely on it heavily, so this exaggeration helps the readers relate. Although he is making fun of the people that drink the fancy drinks, he is relating to the people that just want a plain old coffee. You also find the use of hyperboles in another piece where Barry is explaining

Tone is the attitude of the writer toward the audience or subject. Tone can be seen through the choice of word or the overall viewpoint. Taylor has the audience contemplating in every section of the poem. There are a total of six sections in the twenty-two line poem. The tone in each section is valuable because it tells a substantial outline of what the writer is making the audience think about.

I decided to write about Brookside Chocolate. Attached is a link to a video ad. The reason I decided to write regarding is Ad is for the reason that it has two of my favorite things to mix together, dark chocolate and fruit. The video is selling chocolate from a place called Brookside and the advertiser wants to sell you their chocolate with exotic fruits such as pomegranate, raspberries, and blueberries and it gives you the image of that once you’ve tried them you will fall in love with them. How this ad appeals to myself as the audience and to my emotion and sense of logic for the reason that I personally love dark chocolate and the benefit it has for me personally as a consumer.

Even though aspects of love could be synonymous to how strong, sweet, or bitter coffee blends are, one might find their day incomplete without a cup of coffee.

Considering the content and the selected audience, one would expect the article to be formally written. The author does not fulfil this expectation. The article is introduced with an informal statement: “Let’s not get so obsessed…” Reiterating the scientific content of the article, the opening statement would suggest otherwise. Furthermore, the author personalizes the article in this instance with the use of the first person perspective, but is not consistent with this.

Tone is a literary component of composition, which shows the attitudes toward the subject and toward the audience suggested in a literary work. A plethora of authors use tone in order to show the reader the attitudes of the characters and subjects in a literary piece. Charles Dickens uses tone in A Tale of Two Cities, one of Dickens’s most widely read books, to show his critical attitude towards the richer, upper classes. Dickens was not the wealthiest, and even found himself in jail for debt in 1824, but he worked his way up from the bottom. This is why the tone is critical towards the aristocrats in the story, and empathizes with the peasants and Bourgeois, or middle class.

Caffeine is a chemical found naturally in few plants all over the world. From these plants it is processed into its pure form and then put into other things such as soda, energy drinks, tea, and pills. Energy drinks and soda are some of the most widely marketed products in the world, even though they contain the highest concentration of caffeine outside of pure caffeine supplements. It is a stimulant that affects everyone in strange but semi predictable ways. Research has been done on this topic since the 1920’s and many different conclusions have been reached.

However, the majority of consumers do not understand the way they work and often abuse with the consumption of the substance. Furthermore, a great amount of them are unaware of what effects can be caused on the human body. Many consumers agree that energy drinks actually provide the human body with the desired energy. The reason behind this effect is caused by the high amounts of caffeine and sugar.
