Causes for drug abuse
Twenty three and a half a million Americans are addicted to alcohol and drugs. That's approximately one in every ten Americans over the age of twelve – roughly equal to the entire population of Texas. Only eleven percent of those with an addiction receive treatment. But before people get addicted to a drug, they must first try a drug. The real question is, why do people start using drugs? Many of us have gone through it. Peer pressure is a mother trucker! In order to be invited to a party you must be drinking and smoking to attend. Otherwise you’re going to be looked at as a nerd. Once an individual has indulged in peer pressure, now he/she are doing the peer pressuring, like a domino effect. After using and using, the body becomes dependent on whatever substance has been being used. This creates addiction and if not stopped, one’s life could shatter. The environment that surrounds individuals has a major impact as well. For example, a group of jocks are going to try to achieve good grades so that they can continue to play on the football team. A group of pot heads, on the other hand, are going to skip class and forget about their grades. People are influenced by the other people that surround
I can say that falling for the peer pressure put myself in many uncomfortable situations, and resulted into bad decisions that effected my academics and my mental. For example, many of times I would rather choose to go on random adventures with my friends, knowing that I had many assignments that needed to be done. I chose to prioritize fun over my academics and by my sophomore year I was on the verge of being kicked out due to academic

As the epidemic of teen non-medical prescription use and abuse increases, we as a nation need to consider solutions that will insure that our children have a future, redoubling our efforts to modernize strategies that will confront the public health problems we are facing pertaining to our youth. Specific strategies that address the facets of teen life such as peer pressure, decision making, and academic progress, how they spend their free time and choosing friends.
Certain emotions and addictions can be passed down. Today it seems like more people have depression or sleeping problems. Or addictions with tobacco and alcohol use have been passed down through generations. It is a proven fact that certain things are passed down in many families all over the
From this we can conclude that the statistic of drug usage is way too high and may be the cause of more harmful effects such as overdoses. While alcohol is still a drug and still has the potential of being very dangerous heroin and other street drugs do not seem to be a adequate and safe substitute and is proven to be even more dangerous. When we look at Opioid and other drug use in America compared to other countries we notice that america is one of the leading countries in drug use around the
The first and most important cause of kids trying drugs for the first time is the peer pressure. Since little kids, our fathers tell us who should our friends be and who should not, at that time you may think: ¨What’s the problem I can have the friends, I want that’s not their problem¨ but you are wrong, they just want the best for you. Your peers sometimes
In today’s society, substance abuse is a serious issue that has many explanations as to why it occurs. Peer pressure, boredom, rebellion, etc., are all common examples of why a person uses drugs and alcohol but there is more depth to it. Individuals will often get blamed or judged on the actions they perform and do not usually think of society itself as a factor. There are relatively stable patterns of social relations that contribute to the values and decisions of humans. Three levels of social structures that surround and permeate us are macrostructures, microstructures, and patriarchy.
Often, people will mistakenly think that the people who are taking substance drugs or even drinking heavily, that those people lack moral principles or are willingly choosing to not stop their drug supply. Researchers have found that the use of drugs and alcohol, changes our brain chemistry. Which makes quitting harder and withdrawal almost unbearable to stand. The real damage comes into play if there are children involved in the family. Children are like sponges, the absorb everything.

Next, the disease theory states, an individuals addiction is causes by a physiological deficit which makes an individual unable to tolerate the drug. For example, certain individuals are more susceptible to cocaine than others, depending on the individual’s bodies responsiveness to the drug. One may be more easily addicted if their body produces a more reinforcing or rewarding response when a particular drug is taken. In addition, the learning and behavioral theory suggest addiction is learned both through observation and vicarious reinforcement of direct experience. In other words, individuals learn through observation that addictive behaviors can be used to escape from pain, cope with stress, or even deal with depression.

Addiction is the reliance on a routine. There are many addictive stages. Addiction, as it comes along, becomes a way of life. The persistent use of the substance causes to the user serious physical or psychological problems and dysfunctions in major areas of his or her life. The drug user continues to use substances and the compulsive behavior despite the harmful consequences, and tries to systematically avoid responsibility and reality, while he or she tends to isolate himself/herself from others because of guilt and pain (Angres, & Bettinardi-Angres, 2008).
