The Battle of Yorktown had many small battles and skirmishes inside itself leading up to the actual battle. Here are some causes, leaders, events, and effects that happened during the last battle, the Battle of Yorktown. This battle has many causes leading up to it. The battle was fought because the French and the American were determined to totally blow the British out. Washington then decided that he could bombard the British into submission. Also, the British knew that the American and French troops were getting closer, and by September 29th the British opened fire on the American and French and they exchanged fire back at the British. Logan also states that Cornwallis eventually moved the British troops to unrestrained defenses to come up with a more secure plan. Then, on September 30th they were back at it again, fighting a two hour battle. Joseph Logan claims that the French went through many mishaps, one being in order to have food they eventually had to kill their horses. Within the night of October 2nd, the British let open a wave of fire to cover up for the movements of their calvary by the infantry men because they were trying to forge for food. This quickly escalated to them losing 50 men. On October 14th, Washington decided launch an attack on the British with the French following 30 minutes later, this was the bombardment. That night at around 6:30pm gunfire was heard symbolizing the start of the attack. Some movements looked as if there was an attack on Yorktown itself, which freaked the British out. Logan’s staff says that on October 9th the Americans opened fire again, beginning to destroy the British defenses. The French also began to take down the British. Come October 16th, General Cornwallis tried to move out his army, due to strong fire. Cornwallis finally realized that there was no hope for him and his troops and on October 19th, 1781 the “Article of Capitulation” was signed.The British were then said Prisoners of War. The Americans, led by General Washington, allied with the French, led by General Rochambeau, defeated the British who were led by General Cornwallis. This conflict, which took place in Yorktown, Virginia in the fall of 1781, was an American victory after they forced the surrender of General Cornwallis. His surrender at Yorktown was one of the greatest contributing factors that prompted Great Britain to negotiate a resolution to ending the war. The British Army under the control of General Cornwallis arrived at the Yorktown port along the Chesapeake Bay in June of 1781.

At the end of the Saratoga Battle, according to Loiselle, “on October 17, Burgoyne surrendered his troops under the Convention of Saratoga, which provided for the return of his men to Great Britain on condition that they would not serve again in North America during the war” (Loiselle). The Convention of Saratoga was a forced treaty of sorts because it let the surrendering troops live, but the downside was that the soldiers couldn't be used in any way against the Americans in the war. This l allowed the Americans to dispose of the enemy troops without mass execution, which would anger the British and stop any further surrender of the British forces out of fear. The defeat also persuaded the King of France to support and recognize America openly(Lohnes). Frances's support helped legitimize and give credibility to the new countries, and with that further credibility came more power.
