John Proctor is a key character within The Crucible by Arthur Miller, displaying great emotion and immense passion for what he believes in. John Proctor is the main protagonist of The Crucible, he is a strong, smart and brave man “He was the kind of man—powerful of body, even-tempered, and not easily led....” (Miller 20). One of Proctor’s important traits that gets him arrested is that he is not afraid to speak his mind: "PROCTOR, his mind wild, breathless: I say—I say—God is dead!" (Miller 119).
