Pattyn Von Stratten is one of several daughters raised in a Mormon home by their abusive drunk father and distant mother. Being the oldest, Pattyn holds the role of being the primary care giver since her mother fails to do so. As a teenage girl, she is faced with many challenges, especially since her Mormon community has something to say about every move she makes. Throughout Burned, Ellen Hopkins was able to show a teenage girl’s thought process on abuse, faith, and the ability to love.

Evaluating a song and being given the ability to relate enhances one’s respect for the composer. For example, when one first listens to “Danny’s Song” by Kenny Loggins, they probably believe the song is about love, however, once a person analyzes the lyrics the realize that the song is actually a story of a couple who are having a baby boy.

Most of us are lucky enough to have a home. A place one can come to, and find those close to us. We often take this for granted, and stay blissfully unaware of how fortunate we are. Jeannette Walls’ life has been far from easy. From the day she was born, she and her family had combated constant forces of turbulence and order.

The lyrics symbolize how she loved her boyfriend more than he loved her. Swift provides pride in the relationship, while her boyfriend remains unwilling to. Throughout her song, Swift uses rhetorical appeals of pathos to invoke the emotions she felt through her relationship with her ex-boyfriend and allow listeners to relate to her.

Long story short: she’s late for her trip, she gets in a big argument with her boyfriend, and she starts falling for another guy. As you can probably tell already, the theme of the book is relationships. The first quote that relates to the theme of relationships is, “I don’t know why, but I don’t want Derrick to know that Beckett drove me here. Not that Derrick would care. Derrick is not the type of guy who gets jealous.

This helps the focus of the album by illustrating the kind of place she lives, and how her father could be non-present for several reason like, he could be in jail or even dead, because in places like where she lives it is a common thing, Pasain later on goes to explain that the males that she does know are not great father figures because in a line of the song she states “ Why am I being disrespected by someone I should call brother?” Another line she states while singing this song is “ And why girls feel unpretty and constantly hate each other”. In a society where songs with meaningless lyrics and repeated phrases gathers the most publicity, it is surprising to find songs that exhibit meaningful lyrics and thoughts. Unlike most hip-hop songs that contain useless repeated lyrics, Kanye West’s 2008 hit “Heartless” contains lyrics full of meaning. After producing this song, he was starting to approach the zenith of his career. This song became an instant hit for not only its soothing beats or sounds, but for its impactful lyrics that take the listener multiple attempts to really understand. This song tells the story of a tragic breakup between two individuals that cannot seem to get along.

She felt “light and good in the warm sun” (L8). To her young and inexperienced mind, “nothing existed for her but her song,” (L8) which just goes to show how oblivious and careless she is to her surroundings and worlds greater than her own. On the contrary, as she made her way a “mile or more from home,” (L23) she began to hit a turning point. The comfortable world at which she knew is now cracked open and unguarded.

He shows to her that he still cares deeply about her and she can change back, it’s not too late. At the end of the song the first three lines, “Girl, I’m glad you called, first heard you talk/ took me a second cause I couldn’t hear/ your drawl”, are repeated. The repetition of this line magnifies the change within his friend, the adaptation so large that her voice is completely different. After a long separation, the bond between these once best friends is only something of the past. Frequently, we just pass by people and look down on them since they have no home; but who is to say they don’t have a home? Home is not the house you live in or the country you belong to. It is a place that incites certain feelings and those feeling are what makes a place home. The people on the streets with no “home” may simply find that anywhere in the world is where they call home. Home has two specific set of values that make it more than just a place which are privacy, and safety.

In the song, Tupac details his childhood poverty and his mother's addiction to crack cocaine but argues that his love and deep respect for his mother supersede bad memories. Tupac saw the urban decay all around him, not only in the buildings but also in the social norms and values he saw his people trending towards. Tupac wanted to change the world but died to do so.
