Fast food and unhealthy snacks are widely consumed by a great majority of people. Among the majority are children, which consume it the most. Unhealthy snacks are also consumed by children, especially preschoolers. Many people think that fast food and unhealthy snacks are the reason for childhood obesity. The question here is who/what is the reason for obesity in children?
Some may argue fast food and unhealthy snacks are the cause of obesity in children. Fast food and unhealthy snack are advertised at children. Fast food companies and the unhealthy snack companies shouldn’t be blamed either. I think parents are the ones to blame here. Despite the fact that fast food advertising is aimed at children, food habits begin at home. Bad food habits are not only developed at home, schools also lack in healthy snacks for children.
Studies have shown that 50% of children don’t consume fast food. 40% of children who barely consume fast food have gained 30% of the calories they ate. 10% of children who consume high amounts of fast food gained 30% or more calories of what they ate. As for children who eat unhealthy snacks, the parents are at fault for buying the unhealthy snacks. Instead of buying unhealthy snacks for their children, parents can try to pay attention to unbalanced amount of advertising of unhealthy snacks and healthy snacks and try to let their kids have a healthy lifestyle.
To conclude this, fast food and unhealthy snack companies are not at blame for the obesity in children. Parents are at blame because they can promote a healthy lifestyle at home for their kids and not buy unhealthy snacks. Advertising fast food and unhealthy snacks is not the reason for children’s obesity. Childhood obesity is caused by many different reasons and fast food and unhealthy snacks are not to
In the article, “ Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko’s, he explains that it is not the children’s fault for eating fast food but the companies who keep expanding in local areas where it is-easier-for children to get a taste. Zinczenko agrees that it is not healthy for the body and it is a worldwide problem that most families are facing today. The villain in this true story is the industries that do not stop making these unhealthy fast food for children and spread advertisement all over the media. Don’t blame the eater, blame the government to make more strict rules on a healthy environment.
“Don’t Blame the Eater” by David Zinczenko is an article that argues that the fast-food industry is at fault for the rising rates of obesity and health care, not the consumers because they advertise and market cheap meals without mentioning the negative nutrition information. It is in some ways no different than the tobacco industry, in which they sell cheap and unhealthy food without offering information that is easy to read and comprehend. Zinczenko claims that “Fast-food companies are marketing to children a product with proven health hazards and no warning labels” (464). The author insists that the fast-food industry is primarily at fault for the health problems related to obesity in the United States. This assertion seems legitimate and
Child obesity is not advertised like the lastest chicken nugget meal, which need to be addressed. There has been a rapid growth in child obesity worldwide. It has now caused a major problem in the health of young children. Center for Diseases Control took a survey in 2011 to 2014, showing that 12.7 million are being affected from the ages of 2 - 19 years old. Fast food restaurants are advertising in children show commercials.
Research shows that children eat more without realizing when they are served larger amounts. Vegetable and fruit intake is dwindling down in youth diets. French fries are the most common “vegetable” that children eat making up twenty-five percent of their intake. Fruit juices are 40% of the fruit intake for children. Because of the shift in cultural norms, there are more unhealthy foods at convenience versus the healthy food that used to be found in many
This is not at all the government’s responsibility, and much less the fast food companies’. On the other hand, some may argue that the government should do something about unhealthy food, such as increasing the cost for it, or decreasing the cost for healthy food. This may help to some extent, but in the end it won’t change anything if people still choose to eat unhealthy. It comes down to each individual’s decisions and the influence they receive from people like their parents.
Obesity: There is a direct link between young children’s eating habits and them becoming overweight and obese later on. Children in families with insufficient access to nutritious foods are in fact significantly more likely to be obese in early childhood than other children. This is the result of excessive calorie intake and an emphasis on foods that have high levels of fat, sugar and sodium.
In the article, “ The battle against fast food begins in the home ” , Daniel Weintraub suggests that parents are to blame for children obesity not fast food companies. He supports his claim by gathering information and explaining the research used to show how most studies focused in on consumption of fast food and how it is affecting children obesity. The purpose of this is to be more aware that parents need to start taking more responsibility to make children stop blaming others for something that happens in the home. I agree with Weintraub and his article from what i think and from observations according to child obesity. From experience i have seen child obesity and what seems to be the answer to this.
Parents usually blame the advertisements that pass on television promoting junk food and believe that it is persuading the child to buy or consume the product that is been promoted. But in reality the advertisement is for the parents but and the parent will take the decision if it is good for their kids. When they show the image of the product on television the image might seem really appetite that would convince someone to go and buy the product. That is the person 's opinion of course and yeah eat in a fast food restaurant is not a bad thing but some people don 't the the damage it can make the body. There have been people who eat everyday out and in two weeks gain more than 5 pounds and their cholesterol raises.
1. Introduction The rate of childhood obesity has increased over few years. There are 41 million children in the world are overweight or at risk of obesity. Childhood obesity is a serious health problem.
Obesity continuously increases more and more each year. Children ages 5-12 has increased 4% in 1971-1975 to 18% in 2009-2010 and another significant amount of increase at 25% in 2011-2015. ‘Junk food’ television advertising is not the only reason why the childhood obesity rates are becoming higher. It’s mainly the parent’s responsibility to influence what their children should and what they can’t. The schools they attend is also another high influence, schools have a high amount of foods that are known as ‘junk food’ schools also hold many fundraisers that usually sell many foods that aren’t healthy.
Some children pick up these habits from a parent and decide sports or hobbies aren't for them anymore. This is where obesity comes in at. With so much free time now after work, parents still feel the need to pick up fast food in order to have more time for themselves and not have to fight with a child on what they want to
Kids/adults make mistakes and eat fast food restraunts. Youth should stop eating and drinking bad food such as soda and MC Donald’s. One and three kids eat junk food which causes bad disease like diabetes. Only 16 percent eat healthy food which means they are taking down markets and putting more fast food restraunts. That is ruining there health and might die that is bad.
Marcus Deanes Prof. B ENGL 1020 13 April 2015 Can fast food be the cause of obesity? Are we digging our own graves by the over excess of fast food eating? In today’s society, we have a fast food restaurant on almost every corner. Along with that, they have big signs with new foods on discount for almost one dollar. This makes it even harder for those who want to diet and eat healthy, because the food is very convenient and takes no time to order.
The results are shocking how fast food can affect you. How do advertisers lead young people to eat unhealthy foods and lead to obesity. The fast food industry has techniques to get people to buy their products just like. The fast food industry targets kids cause if a kid wants a item they will whine, fake cry, and ask their parents, guardian or peers a million times and 7 out of 10 times the person will give in and get you it, according to page 95 in the spring board book.
The food companies monies are well spent, for a child watches an average of over ten food-related ads a day (Prevention Institute, 2011). Nearly all of the advertised food products are high in fat, sugar or sodium, thus classifying them as unhealthy, low nutrient dense foods (Prevention Institute, 2011). Children who consume foods packed with fat, sugar, and sodium on a regular basis are increasing their risk of having health problems and concerns, particularly obesity, in the future (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). Obesity, according the the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (2014), is classified as “having excess body fat”. The number of obese children has doubled in the past 30 years, from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012 (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014).
