In this passage “THE GLASS CASTLE” by Jeannette Walls, it's a remarkable memoir of Jeannette and her family lives. The novel begins when Jeannette was three years old and she was making hot dogs and caught herself on fire. She ends up having 2nd degree burns and had to get a skin graft. Jeannette uses characterization so the readers can know about her and her family and how odd they were. Even though her parents always did something bad they always made something out of nothing.

A seemingly uncorrelated death of a child becomes an attack on two businesses that brought forth unwanted attention. It reveals how corporations can truly neglect their surroundings and the safety of citizens without remorse. In the quaint town of Woburn, Massachusetts, the death of Anne Anderson’s son due to leukemia quickly transformed from a personal tragedy to an extensive lawsuit. Anne Anderson approached Jan Schlichtmann, a personal injury lawyer, to tackle the case. From the beginning, Anne makes it clear that she does not want money, she simply wants an apology.

Laurie Halse Anderson used literary devices very well in the book Chains. One literary device commonly used is the simile. A simile is an abstract comparison where you say something, is like (as) something else. Laurie Halse Anderson uses a simile creatively to describe a woman “Her chin was narrow and pointed like a shovel.”

Character trait: One trait that the protagonist displays is ‘frustration’, an example from the short story would be: “It was not deep, he wetted himself halfway to the knees” The chechaquo was planning on arriving at the camp on time for the boys at 6:00, he had it all planned out, but when he stepped into the frozen river and wetted his feet, that would mean he would have to build a new fire and wait until his feet were dry and safe to walk with, that would take a lot of time and make him late to the camp. How a character acts and what their personality is can describe their character trait. Sometimes characters are different in their traits, oftenly characters can be the same by changing or revising their own character trait. The protagonist is Doug from Okay for Now, by Gary Schmidt. Doug is a teenage boy that is struggling with a rough family. Doug 's father got a new job that was far away from his own town so, Doug has to adapt to the town that he moved to.

Enough evidence was given in the book that Hester deserves the punishment. “Cinderella, Inc.” by Sue and Allen Gallehugh has a great relation with the 21st Century America society. It is common today’s days that people, in especial the younger one are not opened to new opportunities or to know others more deeply. Cinderella judged her new stepmother and stepsisters even before to take the time and see if they were good persons and may be just judge them by the stereotype that all stepmothers are bad and cruel. At the same time, she tried to play the role of a victim which made her fall in depression and made severe her situation by eating too much and seating in a corner to cry out how unfortunate she was. One example of this was when the author used personification to describe the desert towards the end of the piece. Personification is when the author uses human characteristics to describe non-human objects. He described the desert as a beautiful brown color, much like that of a person's skin color. Another example of a rhetorical device that I noticed was polysyndeton, which I found quite noticeable throughout the reading because the author used it multiple times. Polysyndeton is when the author uses a repetitive amount of a certain conjunction to emphasize a certain point.

Marissa Meyer's Cinder is a prose fiction novel loosely based on the classic fairytale Cinderella. Cinder is set in a futuristic world filled with Robots, Cyborgs, and Lunars. Although published in 2011 Meyer's work is set to become a favorite of our time. Through first impressions, examining literary devices, and evaluation and review Cinder will prove itself to be a modern classic. When having first impressions its hard not to judge a book from its cover.
