Meeting The meeting I choice was a city council meeting in Springdale Ar. The meeting was on October 13, 2015 6:00pm. The city of Springdale hold meeting every two weeks at the same time and place.
Group Concepts
Membership
The membership of this type of group would be the city council members. Anyone can go to a city council meeting; they are open to the public. There would not be any type of full psychological membership for this type of meeting because of the group dynamic. City Council is for the needs of the city to be discussed and be called to actions.
Leadership
There is a definite leader in this group, Doug Sprouse, the mayor. It is quite clear as soon as you see the room that he is the leader. The desk they are sitting at

I do not think the city council had a problem with group think. They allowed citizens to come and state their questions and opinions and gave their best and honest answers to the people, and tried their best to not show criticism when not …show more content…
The roles for a city council are formally assigned by the votes of citizens who have a permanent resident in Springdale Ar. The roles for each member of the council are different. All the members of the council are seen as leaders of the community but Mr. Sprouse has a leader ship role more so then the others because he is the mayor of the town and in charge of the council. The council showed experience in the way that they each new their individual roles and performed them adequately.
Human Diversity
Environment
The environment of the group was not very welcoming. The council seemed like they just wanted to get through the agenda as fast as they could with out a lot of push back. They had an area of the agenda that designated time for citizens to bring up any concerns or questions they might have. The mayor had asked if anyone wanted to get up and speech but within a couple of seconds he moved on to the next category on the agenda.
Diverse person Towards the end of the meeting there was an issue brought up about the city charging a single mother of three children a fee of 300$ for mowing her yard because the yard was deemed in need of attention. She just purchased the property a few months back and did not know that the city had given the previous owners (the bank) a notice. The bank did not inform her of this information, and now the city wants to collect money for the job they
It is a routine matter, but Obrecht took time to explain the County Home’s bills are paid out of a levy fund. When Planning Department Director Betsy Sparr rose to talk about a resolution dealing with a change to a parcel of property, she ended up giving a short lesson on the Planning Commission, its makeup and the role it plays in reviewing land use changes. Just as Underwood encouraged the students to have a voice in the structure of government through voting, Obrecht also informed them there are other ways to get involved in government without being elected. The commissioners make appointments of volunteers to several boards, like the Planning Commission, the Mental Health & Recovery Board of the Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Not many PhD scholars or professors are able to get in a black crime neighborhood which is poor, stay for seven years and fail to answer this question: “how does it feel when a person is black and poor in addition?”Most of the studies done in this book were done in safe, sanitized ivory towers. This piece of writing portrays neoliberal capitalism on the lives of working class people among the blacks (Venkatesh, 2009). The community views government leaders such as social service workers, Chicago Housing Authority, government agencies and the police differently. Most of these government officials are perceived negatively.
City council gives members of the community a chance to voice their concern on various things. Such as an event that is taking place or an issue regarding
Brief Prepared By: Kahla Rosenfeld Case: Village of Arlington Heights v. Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation, 429 U.S. 252 (1977) Procedural Overview: Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation applied to the Village of Arlington Heights for rezoning land to build a racially integrated, low and moderate housing project. The request was denied and the respondent, MHDC, sued the petitioner, Arlington Heights, for injunctive and declaratory relief on the grounds of racial discrimination. The District Court ruled in favor of the petitioner; however, on appeal, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit reversed the District Court’s decision. The Petitioner appealed to the United States Supreme Court and writ of certiorari was granted.
There was a commitment to make changes at the local level to give the people a voice and better living conditions. Making municipal governments more efficient and eliminating political corruption was their goal. They argued against the strong mayor/weak council system and wanted it replaced with a strong council which would more adequately represent the people. By implementing the City Commissioner Plan and the City Manager Plan, experts ran various departments in cities and reported directly to the council.
However, I was surprised by how fast an hour and half meeting actually went, and how much they covered in that short amount of time. This meeting
Planning is transforming socially, but to achieve change it has to bring together, politicians, planners, and residents (Sandercock, 2004). Citizen’s opinions and rights should be taken into consideration. It is the number one rule in the planning process for participants. It says, “recognize the rights of citizens to participate in planning decisions” (Ethical, n.d.). Cities cannot progress unless they change their ways of doing things.
Mayor McGuire brought the meeting to order at 6:30 pm and before starting official business, the pledge was said. First they approved the minutes and then moved to approving a new operator’s license but the applicant didn’t show up. The next items were discussion and action on temporary “Class B” licenses for St. Patrick’s Church Fall Festival, Mauston Lion’s Club Festival Foods 50th Anniversary, and Juneau County Agricultural Society’s JCAIRS barn dance. All were approved and they moved to the next item of business which was the citizen’s address to the
In 1913, between five thousand to eight thousand people assembled on Pennsylvania Avenue and marched past the White House as part of the movement for women’s suffrage, successfully leading to wider support. And in 1963, more than 250,000 people took place in the March on Washington, creating the largest human rights demonstration in U.S. history. The event brought so many together that it pressured the federal government to act against discrimination and create civil rights legislation (Shay, 2012). It’s evident that when officials – and the majority – refuse to listen to what the people have to say, assembling the people that an issue affects is one of the most valuable tools that is available. It brings solidarity to the problem and shows just how important it truly is to so many Americans, as well as bringing more attention of the media and attracting further
The CCDP, introduced from Japan in 1985, combined the methods of community development and community planning. In the CCDP, residents were encouraged to conduct meetings gradually and completely with sufficient time and resources, provided through abundant financial support. CCDP aims to actualize the vision of community work using a grassroots and gradual approach. It reconsiders local culture, promotes residents’ participation, repairs the community’s relation with nature, practices the value of mutual help and friendship, and develops community

Civic and Conference Centre—Promise, information, meetings, participation rights. Every city has aspirations and concerns beyond its own borders. For example, when city elects their local officials, The voters not just looking for day-to-day task “managers” — they’re entrusting leaders with their city’s future. One of the greatest tools available to deliver on that promise is the stakeholder meeting. Stakeholder meetings offer a crucial opportunity to provide an update on federal issues and create a plan of action to represent local constituents.
As a whole, I believe the group worked well together by communicating and providing feedback throughout the whole process. Each group member did their share of their work and contributed as a whole to any discussion or questions we had as a group. In the process of brainstorming, Christopher discussed the topic about nuclear weapons and how it’s a big issue in today’s world not just in America but globally across the world. We agreed on the topic since all of us had an idea about the issue with nuclear weapons. Together as a group we helped formulate a group question and individual questions that relate to politics, economics, and the safety of our world.
