The American Civil War which is better known in America as Civil War was a war fought between 1861 and 1865. The main aim of the war was to determine whether the unions and the independence of the Confederations would survive. The war marks the central event in the history of the United States of America. The war was also important because it shaped and determined how the current America would come to be. After the revolution occurred, it left two unresolved questions which were later resolved by the Civil War. The questions that were left unresolved were: whether America was to become a dissolvable confederation of sovereign states or whether it will end up becoming an indivisible country with sovereign government. This is the reason the Civil …show more content…
When the Northern Region of America was colonized by the Europeans, there was much idle and fertile land which ha d to be put into good use. However, there was shortage of cheap labor. Thus, cheap men and women were required to work on the plantations. Enslaving white slaves was not the solution because the whites were deemed unfit and lazy to deliver better outcomes like the strong African men. This led to the wake of slave-trade where explorers would import slaves from Africa and sell them in America. Slavery was the biggest trade in America at the time. This is because black slaves were expensive and they were still required. The form of slavery in America was more of a developing capitalist than the normal slavery of antiquity. The slaves were meant to improve the economy of America by ensuring mass production of farm produce and industrial products. Slavery in America was also characterized by archaic labor systems which were combined with the capitalist drive of the American society. This combination helped to define the chattel slavery in the United States. Despite the cheap labor provided by the African slaves they were still being mistreated. Racial segregation and prejudice existed at the time and Africans were segregated from the rest of the community. They were mistreated and made to do hard labor with little pay or none at all. The slaves began to defy the white’s rules and hard labor (Davidson, 56). Their resistant through unions and confederation is believed to be the reason behind the Civil
The problem here was that the government had no standing army and depended on the states to provide protection, and the government was too weak to force the states for help. The Constitution was drafted and the Federalists wanted it to be ratified, but the Anti-Federalists were
Whom wanted to push for strong central government that would unite the states as one large continental nation. Federalists attacked the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation and articulated their support for the new Constitution. Arguing that it was a necessary improvement on the ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION. The country's first attempt at unifying the states in a national political

The late 19th century and early 20th century was time of great social, economic, and political change in the United States (U.S.). This time era was impacted by two major evens, the Civil War, and the Industrial Revolution. The Civil War physically divided the South and the North, and created a dysfunctional country. In an attempt to mend the country the government entered an era of Reconstruction. Simultaneously, the Industrial Revolution was growing and expanding.
The big problem was that federalists and antifederalists had different thoughts and ideas that made an impact on their choices. The antifederalists wanted to maintain and protect the rights of the people, and they did this by giving the states more power; however, with barely no power in the government, there would be no purpose in making a government in the first place. They only did this to prevent going back to being ruled by a king, as many citizens were worried that with too much government power, the war would’ve been for nothing. But on the other hand, federalists had seen the constitution as faultless and wanted to protect its beliefs. Another part of organizing the government strength was the both sides' thoughts on the Bill of rights.
In the end they agree with the great compromise and use ideas from both plans such as having 3 branches of government and 2 houses. It influenced us today by still having three branches of government and now all citizens from the United States can vote for their choice. Ratification helped a lot in the Articles Of Confederation. Such as putting the bill of rights in the Constitution thanks to the anti-federalist for their
The Civil War started in the year 1861 and continued until 1865. In the 1860’s, when Abraham Lincoln was president, the southern states had slavery while the northern states did not. The free states, the north, and the slave states, the south, had extreme differences. Differences that they would not compromise on.
During the mid-nineteenth century, the controversy over the morality of slavery and the rights of African Americans overshadowed America’s efforts of building a united nation. In fact, this controversy tore America apart. Abraham Lincoln was not only one of the leading anti-slavery advocates, but he also eventually became president during this tumultuous era. Many events occurred prior to the start of the Civil War that shaped Lincoln’s thinking and his approach to abolishing slavery. These events include the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, the Dred Scott decision of 1857, and Lincoln’s senate race against Stephen A. Douglas.
To say the time period following the Civil War in the United States involved a lot of change would be a understatement. Between the years 1870 and 1900 the people of the United States lived through a period of great change. Not only did they witness technological advances that would change their daily lives, they also saw new laws and organizations formed. All of this was done in hopes of improving the country. Many of these changes came about because of the type of businesses that were formed.
As the agriculture production was in great demand in America, white men used indentured servant to cheaply produce the products they needed. However, during this time, slaves started to become more common than indentured servants because, “As Africans, they could not claim the protections of English common law. Slaves’ terms of service never expired…” (Foner, p. 80). This made white men desire to have slaves who they could control and treat however they pleased for however long they wanted.
In February 1861, a new government was on the horizon in the United States, known as the Confederate States of America. Composed of seven states from the South, this new government looked to separate from a union that they felt was tipping in power towards those who wanted to threaten the rights of the South, especially slavery. Similarly, in early 1775, colonists were preparing for revolution against a power that they felt oppressed their rights and wanted to take away their liberties. However, the Civil War was a not a complete representation of a second American Revolution. The Civil War was more than an unsatisfied party rebelling against a larger power, but a clash between two vastly different ways of life.
Confederates believed that the government established was the actual problem, rebelling to restore the real liberty that our country was founded
Even today the Americas are known for rich farmlands and efficient farming. The issue was that the demand for American silver and crops meant slaves were made to work harder, which would shorten their lifespan. This, in turn, prompted Europeans to search for even more slaves across the ocean, which would spark the whole cycle again like a warped perpetual motion
Slaves had the hardest jobs and got nothing in exchange. There were 3 types of slaves there were debt slaves, war slaves, and criminals. Slave merchants brought in slaves from asia, distributed
At first they experimented with different and cheaper forms of labor such as indentured servitude, and Native American labor. All other forms failed, while slavery succeeded. It became a staple in southern farms. A key thing to recall is that slaves were not cheap, many small farmers just had the goal to be able to own at least one slave. The cycle of slavery and profit is a never ending cycle.
