About the progress the blacks and women made by 1877, they made exponential growth by that time and were always making growth even before then. By 1877 African Americans were able to vote, they were able to buy their own land. They were able to choose how they would use public transportation, choose their own employment. They could finally participate in political processes, they could live with whites in a non-slave society. The status of blacks at the end of the construction legally was that they were free and were to be treated as humans. Whites did not feel that was fair and believed that their justice system was against them because they ruled in favor of the African Americans. They still treated African Americans like they were beneath them. As for the progress that women made by 1877, people finally accepted the fact that women deserved the same amount of fair treatment as men. They were able to vote and hold office, they had rights to own her own business and earning. They simply could prevail if she no longer wanted to be married and she had a child she could fight for custody and have a chance to win. And they had finally been able to get a higher education. Uncompromising differences between the South (Confederacy) and the North (Union) created a civil war that lasted five years. During this war, Abraham Lincoln was president. His election led to the secession of many Southern states. After refusing to recognize the Confederacy as its own nation, the American Civil War commenced in 1861. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were industrial and agricultural economies, politics, and slavery.
Following the ending of the Civil War in 1865, America was in an era known as the Reconstruction. The Reconstruction lasted until 1877. Although slaves were freed, African Americans still faced intense racial prejudice and discrimination.
Although Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass were allies during the war and at the start of reconstruction, they had separate priorities that set an obstacle for Douglass and his goals. Lincoln was a helpful member of Douglass’s team in bettering the lives of black Americans, but because he had his eyes set on ending the Civil War, Douglass was only able to make small steps forward. The most notable changes that arrived during the reconstruction were the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments. Freedom for all slaves, all African-Americans receiving protection under the law, and the right to vote set a new pathway for change to continue. Despite their differences in priorities and personality, there were several reasons as to why
The Civil War was a national devastation that had a deep impact on American society. In 1863, Lincoln proposed the Emancipation Proclamation declaring the slaves would be free, though it was limited only to the rebellious states. By careful preparation of the document, Lincoln ensured that it would offer a positive impact on the Union efforts and to redefine the purpose of the civil war. Though historians cannot agree on when it began, there is merit in saying that it started before the end of the Civil War. After victory, had been solidified for the Union, attention of President Lincoln turned towards reconstruction.

Rhett is truly speaking the truth in this scene.
Public places were desegregated and unfair voting requirements were ended because of the brave activists who stood up against oppression.
