As I end my sophomore year at Old Dominion University I think about all that I have accomplished in the past two years. I think about traveling to Peru and volunteering at an Hogar and Hospital as a Freshmen, Becoming Co-President of the Women’s ministry for ODU’s Catholic Campus Ministry, and to working hard and receiving good grades in all my classes. Not only do I think about all the work that I have done so far but I also think about my family and all the sacrifices they have made for me. I think about my parents waking up early every day to go to work just so we could have food on the table and a roof over our heads. I think about all they had to sacrifice when they fled from their country just so my siblings and I could grow up with more opportunities, and accomplish any goals we set ourselves without having to worry about whether or not tomorrow would come. …show more content…
Never would they have imagined going to school let alone attending college but because of them I was able to attend school, graduate high school, and attend college. Because of them I had the amazing opportunity to be born in one of the greatest countries in the world and study to become anything or anyone I wanted to be. Because of them and with the help of the Clark Construction Field Scholarship I am able to pursue a degree in Special Elementary education with a minor in Human services and speech pathology and audiology. Without being awarded the scholarship for the past two years my parents and I wouldn’t be able to afford tuition and I wouldn 't be able to pursue a degree. I am not sure what the future may hold for me but I do know that if I am awarded the scholarship again I will be able to continue my pursue a degree so I can accomplish all my dreams and give back to my parents at least half of what they gave
Catherine and I will continue to grown in many ways in highschool and beyond. My early years at St. Catherine were spent joyfully playing with my friends and becoming closer to my classmates. Some of my favorite memories relate to spending time talking to my friends after school and exploring the campus while at extended care. As I’ve grown older I’ve learned about myself as a person and about what it feels like to be a close community with my classmates and friends. As I’ve grown closer to my classmates I began to realise my own aspirations and goals in life and just how hard I would have to work to achieve
I have over 18 aunts and uncles who provide constant encouragement every time we converse. Their motivation constantly changes as I progress to a more mature adult. Today, I am receiving constant encouragement and motivation because I will be graduating college soon. As a first generation college student, this motivates to become look beyond the horizon to seek new opportunities to make them proud. Although aunts and uncles’ involvement does not equal the involvement of a grandparent per se, their loving attitudes coincides to help me better myself and this mindset all started with the initial involvement they had in my life as a child.
Seeing the way, they both earned their livings was enough for me to understand that college wasn’t a must to make a livable income. My father actually has multiple times tried talking me out of going into college. They are what has given me the motivation to go to college. Hearing the many stories about how my mom had gone to college for a couple years before being constricted by debt, has pushed me to actively pursue the many scholarships I’ve applied for. My goal as I continue my education is to be the first in my family to graduate from a college, and my passion for the love of sports, especially our Cleveland teams, will help me get there as I strive to major in marketing and one day get to work for a professional sports franchise somewhere around the
It is because of them that I aspire to be a college graduate, ready to head out into the world and help others while making my parents
My mother and father have always wanted the best for me, like all good parents do. One of the many things that they expect from me is to receive a college education, something that they never had the chance to do. My parents always advise me to not to make the same mistakes as they did, to go to college so I can get a good job and not have to struggle in my life. With no alternative, my father had to drop out of school to help his family financially after his parents had gotten a divorce, and then he had received his GED.
I am Juan Carlos Gomez and I am a proud Mexican-Salvadorian. In the seventeen years that I have been alive, I have been living in a trailer. I live with only my mom as her job is working in a kitchen at South Lyon County Hospital. I am very hard worker as I try my best in everything I do. I make sure that I give my all all the time in order to go further in my life.
Throughout this post I will talk about what I know while sharing my personal story about obtaining scholarships. Apply to them all and see what you get. While exhausting, the more scholarships you apply to, the more chances you have of getting some. You can’t win if you don’t apply.
Good Evening. I am Muinat Lawal, a 2016 Parkdale High School Graduate. This upcoming fall I will be attending Prince George’s Community College. The only way for my siblings and I to attend college is through financial aid and scholarships. Without these opportunities, my parent would be more in debt and become homeless just to send one out of five of us through to college.
Unfortunatly at the same time due to the fact that I was dealing with my physical therapy I wasn 't able to make the deadlines for enrollment. I was also job hunting again, taking care of my Mother after she broke her foot and my Grandfather passing away my further education was put on hold. Then I received the email regarding the scholarship give away which I decided to take advantage of. When you followed up with me on my entry taking the time to continuing your sharing of information about Colorado Chirstian University I know it was time to invest in my future education. An appointment was made where you told me how your acedemic courses and studies work and what I needed to do to get things
Having a catholic education as my foundation and now applying to a premier Jesuit University, a true calling home. As we walked toward the Sullivan Center I thought about all my Strongsville Senior High School (SHS) academic accomplishments at this point in my young life; Consecutive Honor Roll placement every semester; Recipient of the SHS Academic Award , acknowledgment of three years of continued academic excellence; Nominated for the Congress
Since the first day I set my feet on this campus, it has given me the opportunity to allow myself to branch out. I’ve grown as a person, building my character so that I can help better the world I live in. I’ve done things that in a million years I never imagined myself doing; I’ve made
In a world where lives are born and taken every second, I think back to my childhood and my earliest memory is my parents divorce, but there 's so much more to me than just that. Who I am and how I got here today is a collaboration of many more memories. My parents divorce, my siblings, friendships I’ve made and lost, achievements and failures, and my future goals and aspirations. Ultimately, all of this makes, and has made, me. It is a collection of influences, experiences, and memories that make up all of us, as individuals.
It was January 2, 1983 and everything was just groovy in the 80’s world. It is my senior year in highschool and I’m still doing stupid things. Music has been changing and getting really popular these past few days. Michael Jackson, the little kid that sung in the Jackson 5, just came out with his sixth solo album called Thriller.
During the start of my freshmen year I was ready and motivated until, I had found out that my little brother had passed away. I was depressed and didn’t want to do anything but stay home and be alone in my room. I felt as if I was helpless
My parents support me for my college dreams. College and family tie together.
