I have taken away many useful strategies and information from the College 101 class I took this summer. This course has given me enough information to help me feel confident that I will be successful in the rest of my highschool experience and my future college experience. This course has given me skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Learning to study properly, avoid procrastination, and take notes correctly has been something that has already helped me tremendously. It has helped me feel less stressed on a day-to-day basis as well as improving my school work quality.
Many of the resources that Jefferson College offer have helped me during the summer course I took. The online library has been a resource that I use often.

The lesson that College 101 taught me that helped me most, was the lesson on how to avoid procrastination. I have struggled with procrastination all throughout high school. Learning how to avoid procrastination will help me all throughout college and will help me when I have a job. It will teach me to do things on time and early, so that I am fully prepared to succeed. Another skill that helped me tremendously, is learning how to properly take notes. In the past, I have never known what to write down, so I wrote down nothing at all, or all the wrong stuff. Now I know to write down the main ideas, and then a couple supporting details. The last huge lesson I learned from College 101, was time management. I learned to use a planner and cut out time for classwork and studying. This will help me in highschool and college by ensuring that I get enough time to do my classwork and get good grades. This will help me in life in general by making sure I am on time to everything and that I do not over-plan my day.
The college 101 class I took helped me change for the better. It helped me mature and realize what my priorities are. Broadhead, a Yale Alumni went on to explain how people won’t remember every course work and every detail. They will have forgotten the material and would not be able to recollect some information later on in the future of their occupation, Broadhead implied. He explained that through college you will not recollect every piece of information, instead you'll remember the struggles and challenges you went through to get to where you are now. Suggesting that the skills obtained through college will benefit greatly throughout their careers and futures. AP English and Dual Enrollment Government have prepared me the most for college. My AP English teacher opened my eyes to different types of literature and sources that is constantly referenced in my first college classes at Tidewater Community College. for example, Karl Marx is quoted a lot in the many theories of sociology. My Dual Enrollment Government course prepared me for this ample amount of reading in college. My professor would provide my class with multiple reading assignments to push our reading limits.
There were many different lessons I learned during the English 101 class, I would make all the changes in the diagnostic essay because of the concepts we learned in class. The most important lessons I learned in class were the grammar lessons and making all of my papers logical. Without the grammar lessons my papers wouldn’t sound proper, and making my papers logical made it easier for the reader to understand. College, the most discussed and controversial topic for hundreds of years. The necessity of college has been discussed in many different countries for hundreds of years in the past and will still be just as controversial in the future. Many have asked why college is important and what it has to offer. William Deresiewicz in the chapter “What is College For?” from the book Excellent Sheep attempts to answer this question by using multiple literary elements to show his audience, which is primarily high schoolers, why college is the only option and is essential to all.

Through the course of this class I have been exposed to number of new ideas and concepts that I was unaware of. Many of these ideas play out in my everyday life which has given me a chance to experience them and observe them. Know that I have been exposed to the Ideas I can look back over my life and point out were some of these concepts played a major role. One concept that has been present in my life and played a major role in not only my life but many other people even shaping many people's future is racism. Hensil defines racism as discrimination on the basis of race (Henslin 245).
In my future, I hope to continue the skills I have acquired during this English class. I think that they will be very obliging to me, nevertheless of what I am trying to achieve. In this course, I was encountered with deadlines, instructions, and assignments that I could not work around. I found that all of these responsibilities have made me comprehend that I could definitely take the next step forward in life.
This course will show videos on just about everything when it comes to being a better college student. I have learned about reading and writing strategies also. Watching the videos provided on Blackboard helped me because I am mainly a visual learner, for all you visual learners out there these videos will help you too. My most significant learning experience from this course would be learning how to do better on my tests. Future students, just breathe and relax when taking tests, if you fail there is always a way to do better.
Lastly, I am also taking college classes to further educate myself in subjects that I enjoy. With the countless number of possible majors available, there is a great deal of classes that cover a wide variety of subjects. I learned that any barrier you face there is always an option to overcome it and be successful. I can grow by working my hardest on my school work and never giving up, even when things get hard. I also learned that time management is a very great skill to obtain at this time in my life, because college courses take time, effort, and lots of patience. I must give myself time to prepare for class work and especially exams. Having a schedule for my school work and my personal life is the best choice to help me stay on track.
College is full of experience and to get that experience students need to get involved in campus and use all the resources that their campus offer. For my first semester at university I learned lots of information that helped me go through my first semester and I will keep using this resources until I graduate. and these resources are not just for school but also for my personal life. Taking this class has had a profound impact on me. I have learned how to properly study for a college class. Also, I learned how to effectively communicate and reach out to my professor. This was my first college course which gave me a learning experience about psychology and myself as a student. I have learned how to manage my time, study in ways that are better for me, focus on the task in front of me, and reaching out and taking opportunities.
