Everyone has that one thing that defines who they are and who they want to become. Whether they realize it or not, it could be grades, a personality trait, their appearance, or in my case, a sport. Field hockey has been a huge part of my life since I was eight. I am naturally athletic so sports usually came easy to me. Although field hockey was no exception to this, I did not realize until recently how great of an impact it had on me. As the game I play grew and continues to grow, I grew alongside of it, maturing and becoming more of an adult with every new accomplishment or setback I faced in playing and being around the sport. When I played field hockey as a child, I was naive to all the things it helped me to achieve in life; things that some people never get to do. For example, I get to travel the country for tournaments, meet my role models like players on the US olympic field hockey team, and learn social and teamwork skills that can be difficult to learn without being on a team where you need to work together with others. I did not realize how much field hockey helped me grow and become an adult until I was asked to tryout for the US Women’s National Indoor Field Hockey Team. When I arrived to the tryout, I was already sweating and had a pit in my stomach just from the appearance of the other …show more content…
The training was the most intense training I have ever done and it pushed me to work harder than I ever have before. Through these training sessions I proved to myself that I am good enough to play with some of the best players in the country. Before experiencing these practices I never realized how much playing field hockey had helped me become a better person. After a summer of playing for the National Indoor Team, I recognized the changes in myself and my attitude toward life. I felt the competitive pressure and the need to work hard in everything I do, not just in field
When I was ten, I scored three-hundred and seventy-eight goals in a season. That’s around five goals per game. An Ontario newspaper had nicknamed me “The Great Gretzky,” which ended up staying with me over the years. When I was just fourteen, I moved to Toronto, Canada. My family continued to support me, even though I had to move away from them at such a young and fragile age, all for hockey.
You never really know the true value of something, until you almost loose it. Growing up I was always involved with competitive sports. I would always make the highest-level hockey team that I could for my age group. Hockey has always been something that I was naturally talented at. When I was fourteen I moved one 1,932 Km away from my family, friends, and home to play for a prestigious hockey academy.
Starting at the young age of 11, I played soccer for most of my childhood years and as time went on I grew less and less fond of it. Once I started to discover Lacrosse and get familiar with it, there was a tryout for a small travel team called True Lacrosse. This team would later be considered family to me. I was substandard at the time and when I went to tryouts it was something I thought I guess I wanted to do. After I went to tryouts I came home really wanting to make the team at first.
Abby Tuma Mrs. Thein English 11A January 18, 2023 College Hockey vs. High School Hockey Yes, college hockey and high school hockey are the same sport, but who knew they could be so different?I am very familiar with the game of high school hockey, and by doing my research, I have heard a lot about college hockey as well. While going in depth with this research, it has allowed me to notice many differences. I have been playing high school hockey for 2 years, and because of this, I have gotten hands-on experience on how hockey works as a community and a sport. Looking ahead to college hockey, I am considering how the sport is going to change for me.
Lacrosse Lacrosse is one of many Stickball games are played by the United States. This sport is actually a male dominated sport exceptions to some women, it is very different from other sports, like field hockey or ice hockey, because the sport unlike other used netted racket, to throw, or simply pick up the ball, and then the player receiving the ball must either pass the ball to another player or throw the ball into the goal results in a point. The golden rule in lacrosse is that the ball should never be handled, touched, or hold their hands, there are very few or no moments where the ball should be handled with hands. The first rules for Lacrosse crazy (played by French missionaries), first to inform us about the size of the team to play the field length and the duration of the game, but they tell us little or nothing about how you stick to maintain strategy, or more about what we can and can not do during the game.
but I want to also build my skill up for when I transfer to a college that has field hockey. I now own a car and I want to play. I played field hockey as attack/defense/ midfield. I’m willing to go the distance to play field hockey anytime. I just turned 20 in December 13, 2015.
One activity that has defiantly created a change in my life is ice hockey. I’ve been playing hockey since I was seven years old. I know that playing hockey has changed my life is because it’s taught me time management, responsibility, discipline, and physical conditioning. One way that hockey has changed my life is it’s made me manage my time better. Every week and weekend I usually have practice on Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
During my short life, I have not had many life altering experiences; however, one thing that has changed me for the better is playing hockey. Since I started playing hockey in eighth grade it has been something I have become passionate about for various reasons. One reason is my love for the game in general, and more specifically for playing goalie, the one position that holds the balance of the scoreboard. The second reason is being a part of a team. This is important to me because it gives a strong sense of purpose to the player.

At the age of 5, I aspired to either become a professional athlete or an ESPN anchor. Ever since I could remember, I would kick a soccer ball around, dribble a basketball, or throw a baseball around with friends and family. I used to be the league champion and MVP of the team every season, but as time progressed, other competitors would rocket past in height and become the best players because of their size advantage. Although other young athletes became stronger and taller than me, it did not change the passion and commitment I had for sports.
The prompt for this essay is quite simple: write about how your involvement in sports, community service, leadership, academics, and other extracurricular activities have affected your overall character. However, I feel as though this essay would be better if focused on my career in lacrosse and how it’s changed my life over the past five years, helping me throughout the good and bad, the simple and the challenging. Lacrosse has been a part of my life for about five years now. I started playing when I was in fourth grade, simply because I wanted to branch out and try something new, exciting, and a little bit out of my comfort zone.
I was not joyful when the practice ended, but as I realized there that hockey would be my favorite sport. For most of the practice, I got propelled soon as I saw my father again, I told him how excited I was to play. The entire first practice altered my life
In life, people will experience different things that will have an influence on who they are as well as who they will become. These experiences are in direct correlation to future success. Playing sports in high school has a positive impact on future success.
I changed emotionally because of all the pain, hard work, and perseverance throughout school and hockey. In hockey I became more tough and more relevant in how hard you need to work to play high level hockey. I recently started running hills at Northside Park at 6:30 AM with some high school hockey players and it was so tough to get up the hill six times in six minutes. After every training my legs felt like gelo. After the six reps, we do killers up the hill and that’s what makes some of us throw up.
