1. There are a great many amount of themes that can be used to describe an even greater amount of women within the bible, the ones that I noticed that were the most common, however, were:
1) The first theme noticed is that there are women who are dedicated.
a. This can first be seen in Tamar, who was a childless widow. After her husband’s death, she was given to her brother-in-law; this marriage was intended to continue the name and inheritance of her deceased husband. However, while Tamar's brother-in-law had sex with her, he refused to give her the child she desired, and for this he was killed by God. Judah refused to give Tamar any of his other sons, because of fear of having them slain as well, in response to this, Tamar opted to disguise

a. Mary Magdalene, a woman who was plagued by seven demons was saved by Jesus. She demonstrates her faith in Jesus in numerous ways, however most prominent would likely be her anointing of His body for his coming burial, she does this by pouring a vile of alabaster over His head, and wiping His feet with her hair, a gesture used to show deep love and reverence.
b. The second example is of Martha, at one point Martha sent a message to Jesus, asking him to come and save Lazarus, her and Mary's brother, He responds by saying that he will. However, Jesus puts off coming for two days, allowing enough time for Lazarus to pass from his illness, and be buried through normal Jewish customs. When He arrives on the fourth day, Martha goes out to meet him, and rather than be angry and curse him, instead says to Him that she believes in Him and that her brother will again rise through the power of the Lord and His Son.
4) The fourth theme was

The recent acts of terrorism are the most prominent example of when a masculine view point is necessary. Diplomacy is often the best choice, however there will always be that one person, that one group that just cannot be talked down, in this situation action must be taken, it must be taken quickly and efficiently in order to protect the innocent.
b. There is also the case regarding government support, such as section 8 housing or welfare. These are beneficial programs, and in no way should be removed, however, it is necessary to show that these aren't free passes, they're there to help citizens get back on their feet, not so that they can live under the governments paycheck for free, and as such a masculine voice would be needed, that tone of authority that says when enough is enough and it's time to stop relying on others and start doing more for yourself.
4. I learned that, despite all the different view points, all the people who are feminine or those that are masculine, we're all rather similar in nature, and in this sense I learned that I'm just as strong-minded, often pig headed, in my stance. Because of this I can often miss other perspectives, or even miss a bigger picture entirely. So most of all this class demonstrated that I have more maturing to do, more in the sense that I need to see more of the world, rather than base everything off of what happens around
Before this class I had never watched or heard of the film The Hunting Ground. I immediately downloaded Lady Gaga’s song to my phone. I felt I learned the most from this unit as well as feeling the most connected to what we were talking about in class. The film taught me that sexual assault on campuses is more common than I thought as well as less reported than I thought. It was shocking to learn of how colleges had ways of protecting a lot of the accused offenders, for example the athletes or fraternities.
The lecture began with six texts of the women in the bible. Each text followed a particular type scene: a woman, who cannot bear children, is given a child, or multiple, by God. The first one was about Sarah, the wife of Abraham. Sarah was a barren woman who had no children.
Within Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Saving Private Ryan, we are given two different examples of what it means to possess masculine tendencies. Depending on whom you ask, the definition of what it is to be masculine can vary. From what we have learned from Bird’s article, “Welcome to the Men’s Club: Homosociality and the Maintenance of Hegemonic Masculinity”, is that in order to be masculine, one must be able to be detached and possess a sense of independence (125). As for the article written by Schrock & Schwalbe, “Men, Masculinity, and Manhood Acts”, we are presented with the idea of gender roles. The article goes on to discuss how men have to act a certain way in order to be perceived as masculine (278).
My view of the world changed a ton after taking this class. Before taking this class, I didn't know much about other countries, and what was happening around the world, but now I know what is happening worldwide. At the beginning of the school year, all of my friends were talking about how hard this class was supposed to be, and telling me I might should
More often than not, society compels us to behave like genders we are not. For instance, when faced with challenges like finance, family issues and education, women are expected to be exceptionally strong. Likewise, when men are confronted with sensitive issues they are not expected to openly show their emotions like women. Some jobs description requires female
Born Mary of Magdala, she became a believer of Jesus Crist and one of his followers. She comes to the forefront during the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, and was the first to witness him after his resurrection. Throughout history, She has been predominantly known as the repentant prostitute. Only in the Gospel of Luke are the claims made of her to have been a woman of the city. Narrative adjustments in character were inevitable and confusion with one antoher was a mark of the wasy the gospels were handed on.
She shouts, “I’ll tell you what you really want. You want a caricature woman to prove some idiotic point... like power makes women masculine... or masculine women are ugly.” Sydney Pollack shows the audience that men’s interpretation of women is that they cannot be in a place of
Stood up and revolted against the catholic church. They were labeled as sinners and hell-goers. This belief was installed into Mary Tudor, that these people were bad and to stay away. But that gave her no right to blame them for what her father did. And then to kill them.
Mary, the mother of Christ, influences the people who read her Biblical and non-Biblical stories. Since the Bible was written, she has been responsible for many different movements, mannerisms, political revolts, and deaths. This is odd because the Bible portrays her as such a docile woman. She inadvertently laid the ground work that would later promote the Church’s idea of what a woman should be physically, sexually, and emotionally. It was only the Church’s interpretations of Mary from the Bible that caused these standards, she cannot be held accountable for these ‘Marian moral rules’ came into play long after she was dead.
This class has been an eye opener. It made me realize how connected we are with the rest of the world. It has also opened my eyes on the inequality many people experience today. The problem is that many turn their heads away and ignore the problem hoping it will go away. Others see and accept the problems but refuse to do anything about it, but then there are those that see the problem and they are doing something about.
I learned so much about having hard conversation, and being respectful too. I know now that even if you don’t agree with someone, you can still be respectful to them, as they should be to you as well. This conversation taught me how to communicate with others even if the topic is hard to talk about. I know that this conversation will continue to contribute to my success here at K-state, and through
Their son’s names were Jesus, James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. When Mary was a young girl, an angel by the name of Gabriel came to her proclaiming that she would have a child, a son, who would be the Messiah. Mary had several qualities that made her unsuitable in the eyes of many people to be used of God. However, God knew that she be the best servant in one of
Given male privilege permeates all aspects of society do recent accounts of ‘crisis of masculinity’ really matter? The crisis of masculinity is most commonly known as the loss of traditional masculine value and control within organizations, as job roles have become diversified with the emergence and success of women within the workplace, who sometimes succeed men, in their places of traditional power in masculine positioned organisations. As men have always been in positions of power within industries designed to suit their way of simply being, in recent decades they have felt a tiny loss of control within their own environment which has speculated that there is a matter of crisis for all men, as women are taking roles and performing well
My observation is based off what occurred during the meeting with Mary on 1/8/16. James tried to explain to Mary that she should not speak negative things out loud on the floor for other people to hear. Mary did not acknowledge what James was trying to tell her she went right into saying that Denis was abusive to her out on the floor by calling her obsessive. James made several attempts to keep Mary calm and focused on the main reason why we were in there, but Mary continued to talk about Denis and how he had been abusive to her and how talking about it made her pulse race and her blood pressure rise.
The Symbolic Mother Mary and Son Jesus The symbolic appearance of the Virgin Mother Mary and her infant son Jesus is recognizable across many different cultures and religions. Images, paintings, and statues of them together have been created for a very long time and there are many different thoughts, styles, and interpretations of them together. Jesus, as an adult, first started to be seen in artworks in 290 CE as The Good Shepherd .
