Introduction 100 words In this film called The Dressmaker directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse and a book called Jasper Jones written by Craig Silvey they will be comparing and contrasting the use of themes in the film and the book. Revenge in The Dressmaker happens when Tilly burned the town; in Jasper Jones Eliza burned her home. Then in Family Tilly and Molly has a rough start but when Tilly came back they turned out to be happy with each other, while in Jasper Jones Charlies mum and Charlie are happy at the start but went downhill very quickly when Laura disappeared. The themes are revenge, death, and family.

When faced with the man preparing to kill him, it is then that the snake becomes defensive by signaling with a rattling that “he would have no choice” but to kill the man if he continues the threat. Once again this action can show how reasonable the snake is by warning the man instead of immediately defending himself by attacking. These two people have directed the film, and because of that, they have made the audience feel sympathy throughout the film as if the characters were real people that they know. Sympathy make the audience feel more exited about the film, more interested to see what happens next, but the main purpose, is to make us understand a character’s problems or feel sorry for a certain character. The film codes used to create sympathy from the audience are “character codes”, “representational codes” and also “technical codes” These codes are the building blocks of almost the entire film. Firstly, the character code represents the dialogue of a character within a given scene.

In both “A Sound of Thunder” and “Being Prey” the main characters are lead into deadly situations and their lives could be taken. Both of these main characters have problems leading to a deadly problem. Each of the main characters, both were put into situations where their lives could be taken from them. In William Golding's The Lord of the Flies, boys trapped on an island turn into deranged savages and kill each other after they fail to follow the rules of their made-up tribe. Cruelty is used by Golding as a way to communicate his theme which could be that cruelty is in nearly everybody, but civilization’s laws and control prevent that trait from prevailing. Rhetorical Analysis of Shooting Dad The story “Shooting Dad” by Sarah Vowell discusses a story about a teenage girl and her relationship with her father and how they are constantly clashing with each other because they are almost exact opposites. The author develops her story by creating images in the reader 's mind to describe events that happened in her life, the use hyperbole for comedic relief, and irony for emotional effect. The use of these emotional strategies is effective because Vowell is able to use these strategies to help the readers understand the relationship between her and her father. Overall by the use of strategies like imagery, hyperbole, and irony the author creates a piece of writing that shows the relationship between the main character and her father.

In life, conflict is a natural sense of relations between two people. Conflict is always going to occur in life from seeing someone to meeting them. However, with conflict comes theme as they are interconnected. Among the conflicts is between two characters named Duncan and Roach in the novel Acceleration by Graham Mcnamee. The conflict Duncan has with himself also leads to a conflict with Roach.

In the beginning of the movie they presented us with the heroic victims of the Alamo lying dead. This scene sparked off a depressing atmosphere. In the short story ¨The Most Dangerous Game”, Richard Connell uses literary devices such as suspense and simile to help the reader gain a clear understanding of the story. A common theme throughout the movies we watched, Paths of Glory, Beasts of No Nation, and City of God was that of Brotherhood. Brotherhood is a common theme throughout all war movies but especially prevalent in these. For example, to develop this theme in Paths of Glory, Stanley Kubrick, uses the costumes to show uniformity, which in turns represents brotherhood. Another example of this in Paths of Glory is the use of the dialogue by Colonel Dax as he is constantly trying to defend his company from the council. In Beast of No Nation the director, Cary Fukunaga, develops the theme of brotherhood by showing how close Agu and Strika were, and showing them go through their hardships together.

Characterization is a big part of the overall meaning of the story which is that survival is of those who are smart, cunning, and can adapt to their environment. The protagonist Rainsford is at a constant battle with the antagonist General Zaroff. Throughout the entire short story they both have similar minds sets and then farther along the main character 's mind set develops into something more. The reader can almost sense a self centeredness, and that he believes that there are only two type of people in this world, “the hunters and the huntees”, and he believes that he is the hunter.
