What if you're whole world was all the sudden turned upside down, and you are the only hope? Would you take action, or be a bystander in your own fate? In both stories, the characters take action, and their life is better because of it. Peter, a boy from Jumanji, and Odysseus from the Odyssey have to take quick action. Both characters have to make many sacrifices, and go through many hardships to make it home. Every second the hero's take, the harder it gets for them to reach there ultimate destination. Will Odysseus make it home before he is dethroned, and will Peter beat the game before he is sucked in forever? Peter has many trials, such as blood thirsty monkeys, treacherous floods, and packs of charging animals. Odysseus has to take on cyclopes, monsters, and even Hades. The cannibals are very similar to the flood in many ways. First, they were both very unexpected, and neither of them were prepared for the problem ahead. Second, They were not prepared for …show more content…
Cyclopes are vicious creatures, and Monkeys can create havoc on many people. They both made the characters take more time from finishing there quest. The monkeys made the cops mad at Peter, because they broke his cop car. Odysseus stabbed the cyclops eye out and he told his dad, who is Zeus. Finally, both problems faced bigger problems that will prolong due to poor decisions. Hades and the animal herd were big problems to overcome. Odysseus and his crew were the first people to ever make it through hades. They went to Hades to talk a old blind man who has lots of wisdom. Odysseus got the Zeus curse lifted from them, as long as they didn't eat the gods cattle. Which had a great gain to their journey. Peter had to survive an animal stampede, and they helped them to get closer to winning the game. It was their best role, and the animal stampede split up after awhile. Although I know that you are not aware of the current events at the moment, but I have finally reunited with my heir, my beloved son Telemachus. Athena advised me to dress as a beggar when I return to Ithaca. She requested my dresscode to be this way so no one can target me once they realize what my rightful identity is. She also mentioned that your suitors, those disgraceful who have no shame and trying to replace me, have it in their minds to murder me so they have you, Telemachus, and our riches in their greedy hands.
While analyzing the relationship illustrated by most father-son duos, renowned author Frank Herbert asks “What is the son but an extension of the father?” (Goodreads). Similarities are displayed throughout The Odyssey in the character development of Odysseus and his son, Telemachus, showing the son as an extension of his father. Both Odysseus and Telemachus start the epic emotionally distraught. Through several points in the epic, evidence can be seen of their courageousness, intelligence, and leadership developing at different times through different events.
Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, goes out on a journey to find his father, but Athena stops him and tells him to return to Ithaca. She also tells him not to return to his mother straight away because he will be murdered by the suitors. She is a very important supernatural aspect because she saves his life and leads him to where his father is, which lets the story’s plot unravel. She also helps Odysseus stay away from the suitors and in turn keep his life. She turns him into a beggar to fool the others and to get Penelope back safely.
True to You In the world today, finding people who truly represent what they are and stand for is a difficult task. Dictionary.com defines authenticity as “representing one’s true nature or beliefs; true to oneself or to the person identified.” Authenticity is often confused with conceitedness, when a person “has an inflated self-image and perceives himself as incredibly entertaining and wonderful.” My brother, Corey, to me, truly represents being authentic.

A very noticeable difference that is found between the film The Odyssey and the poem written by Homer is the chronological scene order in which key events happen. In the film directed by Andrei Konchalovsky it begins with the birth of Telemachus, Odysseus and his wife Queen Penelope’s son where as in the poem it begins with Homer asking the bright eyed goddess of wisdom, Athena for her to tell him the tale of Odysseus. That is not the only appearance in which the chronological order varies, in the introduction of the poem, book I describes a meeting between the gods of Olympus as they discuss the fate of Odysseus as he is being held captive at Ogygia by the sea nymph Calypso, Athena being the main person in favour of his return home to Ithaca.
