Elie Wiesel is not only a Jewish author, he is much more. He is a journalist, human rights activist, a Holocaust survivor, and a Nobel Peace Prize winner. He was born September 30, 1928 in Sighet, Transylvania, being the only boy in the family and having three sisters. Elie, at 15, and his family were forced, to relocate to a Nazi death camp during WWII. In 1945 he and two of his sister were freed from Auschwitz. He came to write about his experience in the book Night. Night and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak are both novels that give you a look into the dark side of the Nazi German Society.
