Monday October 26th: Today at Moses Cone hospital, I was in the role of student nurse. I had two patients; one a returning patient, and the other a new patient. The nurse I was working with is someone I have never worked with before or even seen on the floor, but she seemed to be familiar with the unit. It was about 3-5-45 minutes into the shift before we received hand off report. After about 8 minutes of waiting to get report on the rest of her patients, my nurse went ahead and started to see patients. When it was time to do hand off report, a tech came to deliver a message to the nurse. The message was from one of her patient’s daughters asking the nurse to please call her before the doctor sees her mom because she had some questions. The nurse promptly said she didn’t have time for that, and would not be calling. I learned a lot for about the resources that are eligible for participants in CC4C and those of low-income status. One of these we particularly focused on is WIC. This program is for women, infants, and children who are of low-income status. The WIC program is completely free support that provides vouchers for food and formula. They also provide weights and nutritional assessments that are required with every other visit, in order to keep receiving the aid. The CC4C program also helps people to get disability benefits if they qualify and special programs like Christmas gifts and Thanksgiving dinner. These programs really help to support the well being and development of the children
